We walked the "Breitachklamm" on the German side and then decided to hike the extra 45 minutes to…read moreAustria and eat at Waldhaus. One of our hiking crew had been there before and said it was very good, so off we went, following her lead. When we arrived in the early afternoon, I saw the exterior of the house and thought it looked a bit run down (for German standards probably :-)), but the outside seating area looked good and I was huuuuungry!
We were seated with some other people at the big table in front of the house. It was nice and shady under the tree. The bare wooden benches war hard, but our butts were harder! :-)
Service was super friendly and very fast. Our drinks arrived in no time. Since it was already early afternoon, they had run out of what I originally wanted to order, but I found something equally delicious on the menu - Rösti/hash browns with smoked salmon. My fellow hikers found something on the daily special menus. The other guests at our table ate various pieces of cake that looked divine. And according to their oooohs and aaaahs were pretty good as well.
What I really liked was that the chef came out and asked us how everything was. I did not expect that. The food was good and the portions big - exactly what we needed. The plates were lovingly decorated.
