One problem with Yelp is unless someone speaks to the new current state, old negative reviews still carry weight when these may no longer apply. I have 20 years worth of direct experience with organic minded people and "Organic By Gosh" is awesome and a business I want to see thrive and succeed for admittedly very selfish reasons, i.e I want them in business because they carry knowledge, quality, ethics, and product quality and availability that will serve me in the future. I am new to Austin and I want all to know and hear what I have to say. The lady at the front desk is awesome. She obviously has been asked the exact same questions a thousand times, but with a smile and patience she will answer whatever you need to know as if you were her first and only customer. you WILL feel equipped with knowledge for your project. She will make sure you walk away with what you came to get, and often a little different because she masters her stuff and will likely teach you a thing or two. I came wanting to buy a large amount of organic compost. individual bags are way more expensive than bulk (for them it is manually intensive and cost on the payroll). They offered to let me get my own bags if I shoveled it myself at the bulk price (a huge discount). It was never a question about if this was even a remote possibility. The owner was contacted via the PA system and the answer was: of course, let them do it! All in real time with an atmosphere of cooperation and goodwill. Much of the negative comments listed in the reviews do not apply anymore. I can personally attest to that! This business is customer focused and addressed all it could. And clearly would get out of their way to address more if it was needed. When you are there, you can tell they want you as their customer to be satisfied. Never will you find fish lines in your compost anymore (what exactly was the problem anyway? was it toxic? I was amused reading the review). Nonetheless they reacted to the comments and now have filters in place to keep this from occurring. If you are a prospective customer I recommend you do as we did. Watch! Do not for a moment take my word for what I have to say. In fact I recommend you come in skeptical as I was so that you can take in the full experience. Organic for Gosh deserves the best recommendation and honestly that is what I am trying to do here. They exceeded my expectations in every way, which is why I am writing this. Take time to see how they do it. My soil and compost are so rich. My garden is going to be thriving, because the moment i put my hands into their product I knew this was gold. Not unlike anyone reading my comment, the moment I walk into a business I usually can tell if I want to stick around and inquire, or if I want to just run and never return. Don't believe a word I say! I have no personal interest or gain to harvest here. Please give yourself the gift of visit to this place. The people working there you will meet are all smile, good hearted, knowledgeable, committed to giving you the best they can offer. This is a rare occurrence in my world these days. I ordered 13 yards of Triple Power Compost, and was delivered only about half. I sent them photos and calculations showing that only 7 yards had been delivered. I got a reply that the remainder would be delivered the next day, which it was. But no explanation or apology about the shortage. My review would have been higher, except that about 10% of the load was yellow fat clay, a soil type which is not on this property. Spreading it should have been a breeze, but was very difficult due to picking out the clay lumps. I prefer to help out small businesses, but you get an "F" on this job and I'll go elsewhere now. read more

Beware the representatives of this two companies entity. I have talked with no less than 3 reps who have contradicted each other on terms and quotes. The other company owned by same person but with completely different procedures and unhelpful staff is Austin Landscape Supplies. UPDATE 11/2021: I have dropped my rating by one star. The price per load, with pull-off, more than doubled in a week's time. I now pay $57/20' trailer load. Also, there is no employee at the pull-off station most of the time. He/she needs to be called. You will wait a while before anyone shows up to do your pull-off. read more

This company has a service where they will give you a compost bin that you fill throughout the week and they will pick it up on a weekly basis. Great for those of us who are environmentally conscious but don't have room on our property to do our own composting. The customer experience leaves a lot to be desired, however. Really wanted to like this company but got fed up with them missing pickups and then sending us a bill for missed pickups. They would pick up on schedule for a few days then one day they just stopped showing up. We called and found out that they changed our pickup day from Friday to Saturday. That's fine, but they should have told us about it either via a phone call, email, or attachment in our bill (they seem to not having problems informing about price increases this way). A couple weeks went by and then it started happening again. We went 3 weeks without a pickup when we finally got ahold of someone to figure out why they stopped picking up. When I mentioned that our original pickup day was Friday but they moved us to Saturday, are we back to Friday's or something, their rep says, "oh it says here your pickup day is Thursday' ... AGAIN they changed our pickup day without telling us. They had two phone numbers on file for us, one of which was wrong, but they claimed they tried calling the correct one. We never received a call or voice mail, or email, or letter from them for either of the day changes. So total, they missed about a months worth of pick ups. We were able to get them to drop a few of them from our bill, but looking at my final bill it appears they are charging for the last set of missed pickups. Their bill though is very non-detailed so it's difficult to see what is included, but their "current charges" are full price and they are claiming we are past due on part of one of our previous bills (we only paid for pickups they actually performed). Regardless, I'm willing to pay just to get rid of them. In my opinion, this company is very disorganized and they expect their customers to pay for it, regardless of whether they perform their services or not. read more

Very disappointed. We ordered 5 yards of Triple Power Compost and 3 yards of Horticulture Sand to help fill some garden beds and to spread in our yard. The Triple Power Compost has glass (large and small pieces), aluminum cans, wire and fishing line in it! There was also large sticks, but that's a bit more expected from compost. The Horticulture Sand has huge pieces of clay in it - the size of my head. With delivery, this costs us over $500. The Triple Power compost is HUGELY overpriced for how much trash there is in it. Literally - trash. Will have to wait to see how things grow in it. It's been in less than a month so far. I just slowly pick the trash out as I find it... The only bonus was the delivery man. He was on time and was able to dump 8 yards of compost/sand on a tarp in our sloped driveway. Very impressive! read more

I have bought many loads of dirt from these guys. They're cheap and conveniently located on the east side (relative to Natural Gardner which is way out west). My only complaint is, as another reviewer has alluded to, I think their garden mix may be off on the PH or otherwise has issues because one of our beds that is mostly filled with their soil is remarkably barren. nothing will grow there. need to do a soil test to ID the problem, but you would think garden soil would be ready to go! They are also only open until noon on Saturday and not open Sunday, which is a drag. The prices are great and selection of soils/mulch/dirt/sand/rocks are fairly large. Just wonder about that garden mix of theirs... read more

I am the owner of Plantscape Solutions landscaping and have used Organics By Gosh soils over hundred times. They sell the lesser priced soils like screened loam and Landscape Light for people on a budget or commercial jobs where the budget doesn't allow for better soils. They also sell the premium Flower & Garden Soil and Triple Power Compost that I use. Occasionally you may find a piece of material in your mix since this stuff is made in a huge composting facility and not in a gourmet kitchen. Finding any unwanted stuff in my mix has seldom been a problem. If you buy a bag of material from Organics By Gosh the bag has the breakdown of the nutrients and other materials listed right on the bag. Texas A&M does the analysis so you can expect it to be done to a high standard. Most places in town use Scarab machines to flash compost the material you buy. One week the material is coming to the place as brush and other waste and as little as a few weeks later it's headed back out again as soil. I like Phil and his Organics By Gosh products because they do not flash compost. They compost their material in large piles for extended periods of time over many months. Phil let's Mother Nature break down their material instead of trying to short change the process in order to hurry product to market with a Scarab to make a quicker buck. If you ever think their is a problem with any product I would recommend giving Phil a call. He is a very personable guy who cares about his customers. read more

Had a couple of experiences with this company and I can't say I'd buy from them. Heard great things, but real life was different. I was looking for organic soil for a raised garden. I drove down from Round Rock to see the place (not a short trip). We entered the office to be "greeted" by a woman that seemed quite put off that we interrupted her day. I tried asking questions about the soil, but always received a one word response. I asked about their fertilizer and she simply said, "the directions are on the bag". Helpful! I requested pricing and a delivery quote. I was told (based on my address) $90 for delivery. We left never having seen the soil and not feeling welcome. The next week I called to follow up and hopefully get more info regarding their soil. Spoke to a very pleasant woman but she couldn't tell me if the soil was organic. It's implied by the company name, but I've learned its best to clarify in Austin. Took 10 minutes to get an answer. I was shuffled over to a different person and the delivery price changed to $125. Nope, not cool. During the entire ordeal I was made to feel like I was asking too many questions and bothering the company. I would like to support small businesses in the Austin area, and there are plenty to choose from. I went to a competitor who charged a little more but gave me amazing service. I will happily pay for knowledge and courtesy. read more

Gosh organics are fantastic! This is an excellent product that functions beyond belief. I planted Latitude 360 over 4" to 6" of Gosh sustainable compost. Purchased $250 worth of their garden soil and can barely get anything to grow at all. We've attempted to remove some of the soil and replace it with soil nearby and that seems to be helping a bit along with adding Organic fertilizer from the Natural Gardener. Night and day from our previous purchase of garden soil for other raised beds from The Natural Gardener. Avoid purchasing soil from these guys. Not to mention the woman on the phone was difficult to work with and after being told I wouldn't have additional tax for paying cash I was charged more at the time they dropped it off and I had to call to get it straightened out. We've gotten compost from them several times. No complaints. My complaint is about brush drop off. The web site says they except drop off. No mention of a fee. My husband took a truck bed of small tree limbs to drop off. There was a $10 fee which is no big deal. He had to unload it himself and then they told him it was at the wrong spot and to reload it and move it. He loaded it back up and proceeded through the mud to the designated spot and the load fell off into the muddy water. A guy on a fork lift yelled at him to pick it up. They were very rude and totally unhelpful. If they had told him where to unload it the first time there wouldn't have been a problem. Better yet, if you pay to drop off they could have unloaded it. I bought 7 cubic yards of dirt from these people - that is a lot of dirt and a lot of money! I had someone pick it up for me and obviously whoever scooped that dirt up and into my friend's truck dug pretty deep as it also contained weeds, pieces of wire and bottle tabs. But the worst was to come. I planted seedlings and seeds and nothing grew. Ever. Things just sat there. Some seeds did come up but were stunted in growth. I mentioned this to the plant nursery who had recommended Organics by Gosh and they told me they had the same problem with their dirt and raised beds so they added nutrients. Which I bought and did. More than once. And then fertilizer, fish emulsion, seaweed, manure and manure tea. Some things are growing but this has to be the saddest garden I have done in my 35 years of gardening. They advertise on their website that the dirt is good to go and I believed them. I had no idea I would have to amend dirt that cost me $300. This has been a frustrating and costly endeavor and I would not recommend this company to anyone. Go to The Natural Gardener. I did call them and what I got was: I'm sorry, thanks for letting us know. I emailed them off their website and never heard from them at all. I am frustrated enough to consider contacting the Better Business Bureau. Buy your dirt elsewhere!!! read more
