Entrance line, went on for maybe 1/4 of a mile, would have left then but have to prepay for tickets, no option for buying at the gate

The hubby and I have been to a few ren faires, this wasn't the worst, but no maps, so you couldn't find food or drinks, the map available online was useless. There were barely any food options, maybe ten, the lines were ridiculous, only two places to purchase beer, wine or mead, also hard to find. The shows were pretty subpar, the only one we really enjoyed was a new one THE CRAIC SHOW, heavy metal mixed with irish traditional music. The prices for food, drinks was ridiculous 20$ for a smoked turkey leg. The prices for the clothing and other items were also ridiculous. We will not be going back. Also supposed to be limited entrance to avoid overcrowding, it was so packed it was hard to move through the crowd

The early bird gets the worm but not the joust. A fun way to step back in time, although of all the Renaissance faires in Oregon (there are currently three), this is the most casual. I realize that may be an odd phrase to describe a Ren Faire, but Canterbury and Shrewsbury do a better job of pushing the historical reenactment part of the experience and seem to pump up the volume of the overall event. We definitely had a good time and I'll pass along the advice I'm giving to my family and friends attending for the first time next week to maximize their enjoyment: ** The joust portion of Her Royal Majesty's Tournament & Joust is only performed at the later show. At the 11:30a show you will see the warm-up activities: snag a ring, lance a target, and slice a cabbage. There are a few minor skirmishes with swords that "will be settled at 3:00p." ** The comedy shows on Wulver's Glade Stage are worth your time. We caught all of Broon's antics (stand-up comedy mixed with fire eating, a bullwhip, and juggling) and the end of MooNiE the Magnificent. The two performers alternate shows throughout the day then have a bawdier show together at the end of the day at 5:00p. ** The Sound and Fury shows are really dirty if that's your thing. Points for calling themselves the 'Fakespearean Players'. ** Food and drink were festival fun: turkey legs, corn-on-the-cob on a stick, meat pies, crepes, sarsaparilla, etc. Evan a renaissance themed Ben & Jerry's booth. Several adults-only areas are set aside for drinking mead, beer, and wooing the lasses. My food highlight was the Pickled Wench cart serving "vegan sausages!" (aka pickles). ** Vendors ran the gamut from clothing, jewelry, and other accessories to services (hair braiding, henna application, face painting, and faire photos). At least a third of the vendors are familiar from our annual trips to the Canterbury Faire held every July. ** Activities run the gamut and the faire definitely had the bases covered with a good amount planned for younger visitors (puppet show, fairies, a rat hunt, etc.). There is a giant rocking horse and unicorn to ride as you enter the faire. For those little ones that want a quest, there is a dragon adventure for prizes. Love seeing all the girls dressed up with their fairy wings and flowers in their hair. Adorable! For older visitors they have areas where you can practice fencing, archery, or pay money for you or a friend to be locked up in Hangman's Acre. All in all a fun day at the faire. I still have a preference for Canterbury with the amped up joust and slightly better entertainment and Shrewsbury which is the largest and has more staged reenactments between different groups. Of the three, this is the closest to Portland, no charge for parking, and a broad selection of things to see and do. Huzzah!

Ask the Community - Oregon Renaissance Faire

What is the food like, are there the giant turkey legs?( asking for a friend)

Yes there are Turkey legs, crepes, gyros, mini donuts, and meat pies (I wasn't a fan of the meat pies but the Turkey looked great). Waited in the food line for about 45 minutes though so be prepared for that.

After almost two years of watching the…read morerestoration of the historic Arch Bridge, the Willamette Falls Festival celebrated the reopening of the link between West Linn and Oregon City by the scenic falls. The organizers planned a nice event. A 3-day festival and each day has a different theme: Friday - "An Evening of Arts & Culture" Saturday - "Family fun Day" Sunday - "Get Active Day" The rain put a bit of a damper on some of the activities, but it was still a nice, small town event. In downtown Oregon City, the focus of the festival, you could walk around town to the sounds of a barbershop quartet. There was a small farmer's market on one block and an artisan's market on the next. We saw fireworks Saturday night from the McLoughlin Promenade. On Sunday there is a 5k Fun Run, as well as a run/bike/paddle race starting at Clackamette Park. It is also the official bridge reopening for walkers, bikes and antique cars. We enjoyed this festival all weekend long and one of the highlights for me was taking the trolley tour of Oregon City and West Linn. We were lucky to have the President of the Old Willamette Historical Society as our guide. Very informative and just a lovely way to continue to learn more about our local area. Many of the historic homes in the area, on both sides of the river, were also open expanded hours and volunteers in period costume were there to provide information, assistance and a dose of fun. The Arch Bridge will officially open to traffic at 5:00a on Monday.

I had a great time listening to the band and drinking lavender lemonade. They had several craft vendors on site as well as free demonstrations on how to make lavender wreathes. The Clackamas River Basin Council had a nice set up of native plants in a portable display kind of fun to check out, however, the placement was next to face painting so I don't think they got as much foot traffic as they had hoped for. They had plenty of u cut lavender. I'm sure they will continue to have that throughout the season. Check out the scene. It's really nice there.

I was welcomed with the sound of festivities with live bands, drinks, food, various vendors, and u-pick lavenders with a choice of making it into a lavender bouquet or wreath. This place is beautiful and has efficient sprinkler mist system and waterfall ponds for kids to play in, which was perfect for this very warm sunny day. The festival lasts for two days, so this year it was on June 25-26, 2016. The event is free! I was bummed that I forgot to bring a nice camera. Great lavender fields for photography! The scent of lavender everywhere just adds that aromatic touch to the whole experience. *These lavender bushes attract a lot of bees. There will be many bees per lavender bush, but they don't really bother you.

It also is a celebration of beer. This event draws thousands of visitors. This event also draws religious visitors to St. Mary's Catholic Church built in 1910, and the Mt Angel Abbey that was founded in 1882. The festival is a huge event for Mt Angel as it also draws in a lot of vendors selling handmade goods, foods and drink. There is a pavilion playing traditional German music as well as a Maypole Dance done by youngsters in full German regalia such as Lederhosen for men and Dirndl Kleid for the women. There are also car shows and military vehicles on display, a large playground area with carnival type rides for the children. Parking is difficult to find, but somehow we always manage to find a spot on the side streets or just pay to park in one of the nearby fields. There is also a free tractor pulled shuttle wagon that makes continuous rounds from the festivities up to the abbey and back. As always, the brats, corn on the cob, elephant ears.... Delicious!

Let me paint you a picture…read more.. In my bucolic little 'burb, there is an annual arts festival in one of my favorite parks. To folks in Portland, yes, there are two Willamette Parks. This one is located at the confluence of the Willamette and Tualatin Rivers in my lovely West Linn. The fields are green and lush and there are rows of white roses in bloom along the border. Children are splashing in the fountain and people are laughing and eating festival food. I am so impressed by the organization of this annual event. The layout of the vendor stalls, plus music and a food court are all excellent. While the number of diversity of the art booths are outstanding this year, the food court is pretty minimal. So you may want to bring your own picnic or stop for lunch in the Old Willamette District. However, I am always a sucker for the burgers served by the West Linn Lions Club. Now, a couple notes. While the artists and their offerings are diverse (watercolors, baskets, glass, pottery, textiles, jewelry, photography, furniture, garden statues), it is not alternative. An art festival in the Alberta or Hawthorne neighborhoods of Portland would look quite different. This festival is comprised primarily of local artists and although there are some from Portland, you are more likely to see the artistic endeavors of folks from Lake Oswego, Oregon City and Canby. There isn't a lot of angst going on in this part of our metro area. The other thing is that it was already packed and parking almost gone when the festival opened at 10:00a. So you can either park in the Old Willamette neighborhood and walk or take one of the free shuttles from West Linn High School (http://www.westlinnartsfestival.com/parking.html). It is kind of a pain, I know. Willamette Park is down a steep hill from Old Willamette, so if you park and walk, be prepared for a steep climb upon your return. If you ever had the desire to visit West Linn, this is a great time and event. Everything is looking very good in my 'hood.
