Hi Don't use Orange for your phone recycling. I learned my lesson.
I have used o2 recycle 3 times in the past for an iphone 3gs and iphone 4 and an ipad 2. In every case the price offered was the price I got. This last go-around, I was offered 305 by o2 and 320 by orange for my iPhone 4S 64GB.
In all fairness to o2, when I went to price match on their site, they replied that they would match the 320 offered by orange.
A day before I was about to send in my phone, o2 sent me an automated reminder which suggested I was in line for 305 even though they had agreed to match the Orange offer. Since I did not want to risk a mix up and getting the lower amount, I decided to go ahead and try Orange recycling for a change.
I sent the phone in to Orange using their supplied envelope along with additional payment for insurance (about 6GBP). It arrived the following day, well within the 2-week window.
A few days later, Orange sends me an email notifying me that upon examination, I am only set to receive 192 a 40% reduction in the offer due to Minor Liquid Ingress. Give me a break. Fortunately, they provided the option to reject the offer, which I did instantly. I know the condition of that phone was PERFECT. It was well taken care of, not a scratch, never ever been wet.
I went online and did some research to find out what this liquid ingress business was all about. Apple has Liquid contact indicators on the headphone jack and at the dock connector. Upon contact with liquid, the indicator turns red (see this link: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3302) . I wondered if perhaps my phone's indicators got tripped when I kept it in the bathroom while taking a hot shower. I found that far-fetched. But surely those Orange inspectors know what they are doing.
Today, I got my phone back. I inspected the jack and dock connector with a powerful flashlight and magnifying glass. No signs of red anywhere. So I can only conclude that Orange was trying to pull a fast one on me. In the 2 weeks between when I tendered my phone and when I finally sent it in, the offer price had plummeted by 100 pounds (because the new 5 came out). Perhaps they decided to lowball me because they reasoned they would not make a killing selling the phone on. Either way, they LIED and tried to play me. I only wish I went for O2 as in the past.
I will NEVER use orange recycle and the bad taste in my mouth means I will never use Orange or EE or whatever for any kind of service in future. I suggest you do the same. Don't risk it!
