I had a good feeling about this place when I first saw the big statue of a frog reading a book outside with benches for reading outdoors. Inside it is well organized with whole sections for kids and individual rooms for audio, including lots of CD's and audiobooks and other library functions open to the public. The library offers access to their full catalog as well as to assistance with technology research and a host of special programs, including story time for children. Additional resources are available online through ebooks and streaming videos with your library card.  Over 34, 000 movies and documentaries as well as the Great Course is available there.  They are even offering Zoom talks!   With COVID protocols the library is now open Mon - Fri 10am - 6pm with social distancing with a building capacity is of 50. There are 4 computers available in the computer lab, test proctoring is available by appointment. Book drop is open and available at the back of the building. and you can call ahead at (251-968-1176) if you prefer take-out service. Meeting room, notary service, and on-site programming not available at this time. A cool service is their free Wi-Fi which is available 24/7 eve after hours, you can access this service from their parking lot! They will scan documents to your email free of charge and printing services are available from the computer lab and photo copying is available at 15¢ per page. Bottom line: We love to get our books at the library and sometimes just hang out and this is a great place for both. Check it out!!

I have a library card to MY public library, but it was 15 hours north. No worries. I asked for help and they delivered. They assigned me a temporary computer password, I logged in, set up the print job and they printed it for me. I paid for my prints and I was on my way. They were SO NICE! Sadly, I would probably not get this kind of customer service at my home library. They need to take some lessons on customer service from TBNPB.

This one in Meyer Park near the playground is in good shape. It appears to be a repurposed newspaper dispenser though it needs some attention. Our recent RV trip had us staying here for three nights and it was definitely a little bitter sweet when we broke camp and headed home after enjoying a month long trip on the road but there's no doubt we'll be back hopefully for a longer stay next time. There's so much to see and do in and around the area, the beaches are gorgeous and there's some pretty good food options as well. I was a little taken back by the amount of growth this area has seen in the past 5 years or so I guess everyone is trying to get their little piece of paradise we are seeing similar migration in Florida hopefully the vibe here never changes...

Gulf Shores has managed to get slammed by a bunch of hurricanes in the last couple of years (Ivan, Katrina, Sally) but on my visit, I didn't notice any particular damage. The beach is lovely and the people are friendly. Expect to see lots of businesses catering to the beach and the tourists. Mini golf, ice cream, glossy-menu seafood restaurants and such. But if you get off the beaten track, you'll find proper locals who are happy to see you. And don't miss out on meeting up with Barrett O. He's "Mister Yelp Gulf Shores" for sure! From the very beginning back in 2021, the enrollment and advising teams were supportive, responsive, and genuinely invested in helping me succeed. They took the time to clearly explain program requirements, transfer credits, and timelines, which made the process feel manageable and stress-free. 2021 was the year I started my Bachelor's program while stationed overseas, and I completed it in December 2024. That said, I am due to complete my accredited Master's program by Spring 2026. CSU's online learning format is one of its strongest features. The flexibility allows working professionals, veterans, and adult learners to balance school with careers, family, and other responsibilities. Course materials are well-organized, easy to navigate, and thoughtfully structured to encourage real-world application rather than just memorization. I especially appreciate how the assignments connect theory to practical scenarios that I can directly apply to my professional goals. The instructors are knowledgeable, approachable, and timely with feedback. Many bring real industry experience into the classroom, which adds depth and relevance to the coursework. I've also found the academic resources, such as tutoring, library access, and writing support, to be extremely helpful and accessible. Although CSU is an online university, its home base in Orange Beach, Alabama, reflects a strong sense of professionalism and pride in student success. Overall, Columbia Southern University offers quality education, flexibility, and outstanding student support. I recommend CSU to anyone looking to advance their education while maintaining a busy lifestyle, both abroad and at home, without sacrificing their current employment.

This is an…read moreexcellent public service that should be offered at every police department across the country. This is so important because when you have leftover medications it's vital to have a convenient and simple means to properly dispose of them. In the city that I came from there was NO place to drop off my unused medications except for the rare occasion when you might have to travel to a far away place during a small time window during work hours. Seriously none of the pharmacy will take them, doctors offices have refused to take them so what are the options? Too often these meds end up in the trash or flushed down the toilet. These are both really horrible options. Though it may not seem obvious at the time, flushing expired medication down the toilet means it will ultimately end up in our water supplies - affecting both our drinking supplies and various freshwater habitats up and down the waterways and that's just a horrific option. Putting it in the trash is not a good option even if they're mixed with kitty litter or coffee grounds for a host of reasons. CVS is supposed to provide prepaid envelopes but when I asked for one my local store couldn't provide one. Please be mindful of unused or expired drugs to prevent them from being misused and to protect the environment. In a major city like Memphis, TN I did a search for a disposal site and came up with one location at a mental facility. You can search the DEA website for a location near you at: https://apps2.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/pubdispsearch/spring/main?execution=e1s1 As for my new local police department the people I encountered were very professional and friendly and the men and women that keep our community safe have a very good reputation from what I hear. They have a good working face facebook page and I appreciate the work and dedication of my local P.D. and officers everywhere. http://facebook.com/gulfshorespolice
