Most awful experience at this bookstore. No wonder so many reviews are critical of the owner and employees- for good reason. I walked in and browsed the new releases and spent about 3 minutes or so flicking through a book I was interested in. Immediately a man working there stormed up to me and demanded to look through my bag when I was done. I continued reading a couple pages of the book I was looking at, as is normal practice for consumers in bookstores and this bitter, vile man yelled at me to put the book down and go to a library if I wanted to read without purchasing it. He had no idea of any intentions I might have had, he had no idea if I truly was going to purchase it. And yet his sheer vitriol made it clear for me that this miserable, old man did not deserve a cent from any customer with half a brain. I told him I had never witnessed such rudeness from bookstore employees before and he pointed at me to get out of the store and literally GRABBED my bag to rifle through it and pulled out one of my own books then straight away tossed it once he realised it wasn't taken from his store. I told him not to touch my bag and he yelled at me to 'piss off, this is my store, i'll do as I please'. With that pathetic attitude, David, it's no wonder your store is so dead, probably makes barely any profit (breaking even if you're lucky!), and it's no wonder you're so utterly desperate to try to intimidate potential customers into buying without flicking through a book they showed evident interest in. People standing outside the store were literally watching in horror as he cussed me out (a young woman) and eloquently told me to 'piss off'. He seemed rather proud of himself as a shop owner, thinking he would get off scot-free from such despicable conduct. Some advice, to the shop owner, Mr David- leave your misery and frustration of your evident mid-life existential crisis and failing dead business at home before you come to work, and don't ever dare to cuss out your customers again. read more
