The coffee here is not the best, and their hot chocolate was really bad! It's extremely overpriced as well for what you get. It's convenient to have in the medical plaza, but I'm not a big fan of their drinks. The ambiance is fine, it's in a hospital but they did make a nice little area. Up and back to Gainesville and all I got was coffee...at least it was good coffee! Took a quick trip up to see my son and he was at Opus when I got to town. So close to campus. This location offers plenty of comfortable seating and lots of work space to study. The coffee is fresh and there are lots of options. My son had a macha tea and it was good too. Staff was friendly. How to make an Opus Americano "with room": After adding the espresso to the cup, fill the cup to the top with water, then dump a third of the coffee down the drain. I ask for "room" to add a bit of cream, but mostly to make the coffee stronger, but infallibly they dump a couple of ounces. I may as well say an Americano, then just dump some of it. read more

Stopped by yesterday after a doctor's appointment. I was pleasantly surprised by the extensive menu and the very reasonable cost. The friendly and efficient staff were right there to answer my questions and take my order. My latte was perfect. When you are a kid, you would get a sucker or a balloon after visiting your doctor. I'm sad to say I used to enjoy visiting opus when I was in town because the employees made me feel so welcomed. As of recently, I noticed more and more employees leaving because of poor management and in turn, the service and my orders started to suffer. For years, I would see the same happy faces but now I see less and less of them. I can't support a business where they exploit employees. read more

Well it's time for a update. Opus switched from SweetWater coffee and started making their own coffee. All I can say is it's not even close to as good. I typically get coffee from Opus daily. Mostly every day I end up saying "the coffee tastes like dirt", not bad, it just tastes really really earthy. The wonderful flavors of the sweetwater coffee are gone. I can honestly say this will affect how much I drink opus now. $2.25 for a large plain coffee. Not worth it down given the negative changes in the quality of the bean they are using/brewing. read more

Opus is a good place to stop for coffee if you are at Shands or UF. The line usually isn't too bad and the staff is friendly. Plus you can save 25 cents if you have your own mug. They also have a reward program. I believe you get a star for every 60 cents you spend and 100 stars gets you a free drink. They also have a decent tea selections. Even though I like coffees and espressos on the stronger side, I find theirs to be a little too acidic. This little coffee shop is right inside the doors of UF Health, near the front entrance in the Atrium area. The staff members are friendly, helpful, and very efficient - even when there's a big rush of hospital staff and guests that all show up at once. The prices are reasonable, and they have punch cards for frequent customers (buy 10 drinks get 1 free). Also, I prefer the taste of the coffee at Opus to the coffee at Starbucks, so if I'm in the UF Health / Shands complex, that's where I go. The service also tends to be faster at Opus in my experience. However, I believe the Starbucks has longer hours, so just keep that in mind if you are craving caffeine at an odd hour. Also, I mentioned this in my previous Yelp Tip, but I might as well repeat it here just in case it's of interest to anyone: They have vegan and gluten free food options! Obviously the cut fruit cups satisfy that requirement, but some of their oatmeal flavors (for example the Banana Bread) are both vegan and gluten free as well. Score! :) read more

I go to the South Tower Opus almost daily. Staff is pretty friendly, polite, and pretty quick even if there is a mad rush. I enjoy their offerings but my wallet does not. You can get soy milk upon request. Their pastries come from a local bakery and are pretty good, a notch better than Panera I would say but some are pretty expensive for what they are. Note: During holidays (even UF breaks) their hours get wonky and they don't open at 6:30. read more

There is one at the north and south side of archer road and theres even one over at the vet school where my dog has been being treated. Never disappointed in everything Ive tried. Sometimes Ill ask for something extra on top of my coffee and they gladly do it. They also have juices, cold drinks, muffins, cookies and can even warm them up for you. Prices are not too bad. Given your usually at a medical place when you get it, it definitely makes the visit a little bearable. They have punch cards for you so if you are there a lot eventually you get a drink for free. Opus is inside UF Health Shands hospital so it's mostly hospital staff and families/patients who visit it. The coffee is delicious though and less expensive than Starbucks. I've also had their muffins (blueberry and pumpkin) and some of the pastries and a fruit cup. Everything is pretty good. They have a lot of grab and go options as well if you're running late for your shift. The staff is usually the same couple people working and they get to know you and your order. I studied for 2 years at the University of Florida near Shands and visited Opus frequently. I enjoyed their coffee more than Starbucks, which was also nearby. They had a wide variety of flavors, and I particularly liked some of their specialty mixes (Irish Maiden). The staff were friendly and remembered our names. The prices are very reasonable, comparable to Starbucks. They have loyalty program (punch cards as mentioned in other reviews). Lastly, their customer service is excellent - I requested a birthday gift card for my friend and, because I was out of town and unable to pick it up, the store manager gave me his personal cell phone and called my friend to make sure she got it.
