Several years ago, my husband and I were passing through Zurich for one night, it was after hours…read moreat dusk and we wandered past this shop, where I glanced in the window and my heart skipped not one but several beats. I could not believe what I was seeing--the most unique and unusual frames I'd ever seen--and I've seen hundreds in my life. With a minus 14 rx, I've worn glasses since I was 5, and the glasses in the window were surreal: so enchanted was I, I could not move, transfixed in front of their display case. I called my husband over and pointed, as a child points to candy, and said, "I need them, I must have them," but how? We were to board a flight the next early afternoon. I was determined to go to the shop early the next morning. I tossed and turned all night, so excited I was. We took the train to the shop and risked missing our flight . . . yes, I'm a nut job. We got there and the Muellers were unfailingly gracious and sweet, incredibly kind and helpful. I tried on the frames, which were much too big for my face. I assumed my trip to their shop was for naught, and was crestfallen, about to glumly walk off. Shocker: they offered to custom make it for me! What?? Yes, you heard me. CUSTOM, which in the U.S. is not a thing. They, with Swiss precision and meticulous accuracy, measured and re-measured. They assured me that within weeks, they'd send me the frames, which I could have filled with lenses here. Sure enough, a bit more than a month later, voila! My fingers literally trembled when I opened the package--and they were perfect. Since then, a year later, I emailed them and ordered another pair of the same frame in 1 mm smaller in a gorgeous sunny golden yellow. Same deal: they customized it perfectly and they arrived perfectly intact. Over the years my email and phone communications with Manuela and Nina have oozed professionalism and going the extra mile to make it happen.
In the next few weeks, en route to a holiday in Spain and Portugal, we'll be taking a detour to Zurich expressly and exclusively to visit the shop again. This time, I'm eying a delicious green tiny cat-eye frame, though I know I'll be eager and greedy for another couple of styles as well :-) The beauty about this place is not only do they have all styles and colors of frames, and not only do they do meticulous custom work, their customer service is as caring, gracious and warm as any, beyond peer, and with consummate commitment to excellence.
