She said your time is up and keeps throwing everything in the garbage, I said wow I'm taking your picture so everyone can see this, she fucking puts a pizza box to my face. We had to dig the toys out of the garbage. All she had to do was come in and ask nicely. She couldn't even do that. She came in and gave us attitude, literally just walked in and said your times up and threw all our food and toys in the garbage. I bought all those toys and loot bags for the kids to take home. And when I asked for the manager she said she was the manager, when I got home I found out she wasn't and she pulls all this shit in front of a room full of kids. My family had to get out the room because she kept arguing with me when I asked if we can at least put our stuff away ourselves cause she didnt even ask us what we were saving or what we were throwing away, she just garbaged everything on us. When the pizza guy came to deliver the pizza he asked if there were any parties there TODAY and she goes and tells him that there isnt any party at the play palace today. So my pizza was late cause she told them there was no parties. I been calling all week asking if we had the whole hour to eat and they tell me yes than go and pull this on us. I was very upset. There was no need of all that. Her name is tessa and this is her in the pictures throwing all of our shit in the garbage. Can someone help me get ahold of the owner & the actual manager.

I booked a party from 2-4 and a week before I sent them a message asking at what time would we be able to go and decorate the party room. They told me 2:30! Half hour into the actual party. I understand I only had the actual party room from 3-4 but the party I booked in total was 2-4 so anyone unless told otherwise would expect to be able to decorate before the party time frame. When I questioned them they told me I misunderstood and made it out to be my fault when I infant was never told I wouldn't be able to decorate prior to the party. They expected me to leave all my food and decorations in the car for half hour then rush to get the room set up while our guests were playing. Further more the customer service has been terrible. They told me they would refund my deposit and asked for my email to e transfer. Then they never sent it. 4 hours later I called and the girl told me she would have to get her manager to call me. No one ever did. 5 hours later I received my deposit back via etransfer with a message "sent". So very unprofessional.

Came up here during Christmas. There's a reason why the entire place is empty. Its cold, windy,…read moreand snowy. But you can experience raw natural beauty with zero crowds. Come prepared though. Awd and snow tires are a must. Satellite communication devices or starlink is also recommended as we had very large swaths of the drive without cell service. And if your car breaks down or you get stuck in a snow drift you are screwed. I think there was a part of the drive where I went easily 90 minutes without passing by anyone. I also wouldn't really recommend coming up here with an electric vehicle during the winter. But we enjoyed our time here. Just stayed at our Airbandb, cooked, played board games and reconnected with nature and our family.

While I wasn't as impressed with the destination drive route and park in general (as much the tourism ad copy raised expectations) there was a sense of uniqueness and individuality to the features that present themselves to the avid traveller.

So being perfectly honest I probably have a much different review and experience than what most…read morepeople will have in this review. Skyline Trail is the most iconic Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. I came here over Christmas when there are probably more Moose than people in the park. There are no services open and its really desolate. So for those of you coming into the park in winter time be prepared. And they do not plow the parking lot. I repeat they do not plow the parking lot. I thought I could go through but the snow was much much deeper than it looked. And I got my SUV stuck for an hour in the middle of nowhere on Christmas with 3 other souls on board. There is cell service out here. And there's also no one that passes by in the winter on a Christmas here. We had to get on our hands and knees and dig our way out. Turned the traction control off and managed to back out. After that we still wanted to go for a hike. So left our car up in the initial staging area where the parking spots say 15minute parking only. We hiked for like 30 minutes and realized how big this Trail head parking really is because we were still within the parking lot. So we ended up getting some exercise in but only ended up getting some parking lot view. But we certainly made memories that will last a life time. But if you do come here in the winter time come ultra prepared. Get a starlink for communication or some form of satellite communication in case you have car problems. Do not go beyond the very first parking lot if there's snow on the ground. And enjoy this nature's paradise. Wintertime in Cape Breton is surreal.

My "memorable" experience at Riverside Retreat began with the long and very poorly maintained dirt…read moreroad with dozens of potholes of differing sizes and shapes, and because it had been raining, I couldn't gauge the depth of the potholes. Slowly, slowly, slipping and sliding I finally found the "campground". Very rough sites, not cleared, soil base, no way to set up a proper dry campsite in the rain. Basically mud. Finally got to the site that he had assigned me and I pulled in to regroup. Glad that I didn't have to go any further because there was a large puddle of questionable depth across the whole road just beyond my site (it had pumps in it, so owner is aware of the problem). As I was wondering about my bad luck, I noticed only two other campers in the campground; both had multiple tarps up and seemed to be there for the long term. The next moment a large white pick up truck blasted by, drove through the large puddle at a high rate of speed, spraying mud everywhere, stopped a little further down, turned around and came back out doing the same thing - the whole vibe just seems kind of sketchy to me. I immediately texted Shannon and told him that I was not going to be able to stay and I would appreciate a refund (we're talking about $35) and thus began probably the most negative experience with a business person I may have ever had in my life. I will spare you the details, but just leave you with a quote from the last email that he sent me: "Your negative review won't cause me one second of missed sleep, and I look forward to replying to it. Your $35 means nothing, it's the negative, self-entitled attitude I have no intention on trying to work with. We don't have time to deal with every person that expects the world to revolve around them." I can assure you that I do not think the world revolves around me. I am an experienced solo camper and had just finished 2 1/2 weeks in the New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia area. I had dealt with lots of rain on this trip but I have never had such a negative feeling as when I pulled into this place. I suppose my first impression was a warning as to what I was going to be up against with this owner. Just look at his reviews; if you praise his campground, you're his best buddy. If you have anything negative say, observe his replies. I'm sure that he will slam me as well. The only thing I would warn you about, is don't say anything bad to his face; I would hate to see what comes of that...

A few things I would want to know. We showed up on a rainy day and ended up canceling our booking…read moreas the campground was not what we expected. A few things to note. The main issue for us was the website did not indicate that the campsites were walk in...which we note now the change has been made. The other issue was the map of the campground identifies solid lines to campsite which usually indicates drivable road but should be a dotted line to indicate walking path. When we asked to cancel and be refunded based on this we only received 50% back which was disappointing. Also it should be noted that the campground has no cell service or internet away from the small office building. Pictures show the road in which is washed out in places and would be comparable to a logging road. We were also told that the river was too high to be accessible. Due to rains we were not wishing to walk in to a site so we left to another campground. Host seemed very friendly but due to misinformation on the website we feel a full refund would have been appreciated.
