Highly recommend for Oolong tea drinkers!! Staff is super nice and the tea is delicious!

Drinks are gods but not that good to wait an hour and a half for. The line was freakishly long and it looked like the poor staff were being overworked. When you got into the store, it's self serve kiosks (super handy) but they're placed in the sunniest area of the room. Speakers weren't loud enough and drinks were idling because the staff weren't calling them all of them out, letting customers guess around when their number got skipped. I've heard Oolong Tea Project is a popular tea spot from Taiwan and that the line can get pretty long, so I was curious to try it. I stopped by on a weekday around 4 PM and there were only a few people ahead of me. Tip: The line starts from the Ranch 99 plaza side, which is better if you want to stay in the shade. The staff will let you enter once the customers ahead of you finish ordering at the two self-ordering machines. The wait can be longer if someone takes a while deciding what to order. I ordered: - Cheese Foam Dark Roasted Oolong Tea - Orange Spring Oolong Both were 30% sugar + less ice, and I added tea jelly (+$0.75) to both. I immediately regretted ordering less ice because the ice melted pretty quickly once I got my drinks and walked out of the store. The Dark Roasted Oolong wasn't really my favorite. I didn't expect the dark roast to have a slightly bitter taste. But everyone has different preferences when it comes to tea flavor profiles! The Orange Spring Oolong, though, I really liked! It was refreshing with a strong oolong tea flavor, and the orange added a nice brightness without overpowering the tea. As for the tea jelly, I honestly could barely find it in my drink. The pieces were very small and there wasn't much of it. I even wondered if some of it had melted. I probably wouldn't add it next time. I tried Oolong Tea Project, and wow, there were so many people waiting in line! We ended up waiting almost 50 minutes for our drinks. We ordered Green Plum Spring Oolong Tea, Orange Spring Oolong Tea, two Hojicha Milk Teas, Green Tea, and Spring Oolong Tea. The total came to roughly $40. Is it worthwhile to spend $40 on drinks, or would it be better spent on a good meal? The drinks are on the costly side, particularly when ordering for the entire family. My particular favorite was Orange Spring Oolong Tea. I enjoyed the pleasant orange flavor blended with the oolong tea--that was the highlight drink for me. This is my favorite chain in Taiwan and I was soooo excited to drive up and try the first one in CA! The cheese milk foam dark roasted oolong tea is SO GOOD. Their oolong tea is just so dang yummy and I feel like they pile on the cheese foam enough that it tastes like a lighter version of milk tea when mixing it altogether. Also the tea jelly is a great addition to the drink, but I think their boba is still the way to go because their boba is perfectly chewy and so so good. The only thing is that the wait is quite long right now, but I'm sure it will die down once the store is open for longer! I came on a Saturday around 3pm and the wait in line was about 20 minutes but luckily they have an indoor line inside the 99 Ranch Market building. When it's your turn you order on their kiosk which was very convenient. We waited about 45 minutes for our drinks which we expected but probably will not be coming back anytime soon until the hype dies down. They did have a good amount of seating in the store while we waited for drinks so that was nice. I got the Sugarcane Spring Oolong Tea with 50% sugar and Golden Pearls and a Spring Oolong Tea with 50% sugar. I would recommend 50% sweet - it's about the equivalent of 70% sweetness at other boba shops. If you get boba, the sweetness from that also helps supplement the sweetness as well. Sugarcane Spring Oolong Tea (3.5/5) - The sugarcane flavor was pretty artificial tasting and definitely overpowered the spring oolong tea. It tasted a little sour(?) and didn't pair really well with the golden pearls. I would just get the spring oolong tea by itself next time. The golden pearls were perfectly cooked and were pretty good. Spring Oolong Tea (5/5) - This was a really refreshing drink by itself especially on a hot day. Came on a Tuesday afternoon and the wait wasn't too bad. We ordered the light-roasted oolong latte and dark-roasted oolong milk tea, but unfortunately, neither drink had much tea flavor. Both tasted more like watered-down milk with sugar than oolong tea. I was pretty disappointed because I'd seen a lot of social media posts hyping up Oolong Tea Project, especially since it's a popular chain from Taiwan. Happen to be going to 99 ranch market around 3 o'clock on a Wednesday and saw there is barely people inside but unbeknownst to me that the lines with 20 ppl deep were inside the building . since I will be grocery shopping so my daughter waited in line. The lines were about 20 minutes to get inside the store but the wait for drinks are another 25 minutes even though there is only 10 orders ahead of ours. We ordered the regular milk bubble tea and passion fruit green tea. Both were mediocre at best. The problem with their setup is (1) they only have two kiosks for ordering and ppl are taking 3 to 5 min each to order so causing the waiting, but the real issue is (2)how slow they churned out the orders. With 6 ppl working on orders it should never take 25 min to make 10 orders. With long lines and mediocre drinks it will be a hard pass next time. read more

Came here right before their soft opening was over. Still have no idea when their grand opening is, but I will say there is a bit of a wait even if you come at odd times. I got the Dark Roasted Oolong Milk Tea with golden pearl, but golden pearl ran out and I was substituted with the tea jelly, but then we also tried the Green Plum Spring Oolong Tea with tea jelly. so I highly recommend the Dark Roasted Oolong Milk Tea WITH tea jelly. So I guess it was a blessing in disguise. It had a very strong tea forward flavor with a lot of umami notes and earthy flavors, which I really enjoyed. And for the Green Plum Spring Oolong Tea, it was very unique, and was lighter flavor but the sourness from the plum really stood out. And on the bottom there is actually 2 plums, so they use actual fruit. The decorations and aesthetic of the store was very nice. Very modern and lots of seating as well. I was a bit surprised to see no line considering the hype and buzz I've heard about this tea spot, but I am definitely not complaining. I arrived around 5:50pm on a Sunday and I was able stand in line and receive my drinks within 20 minutes or so. The interior is stylish, modern, and there is a lot of seating closer to the back the store. The menu looks solid and my group ordered the dark roasted oolong tea, pearl milk tea, and golden pearl green milk tea with adjusted sugar of 50%. No complaints on the boba texture as well as the tea quality from my end. The adjustment helped balance out the sweet with the tea flavor and the large price of $6.25 is definitely appealing. If I had a location closer, I'd be going here instead of my usual boba spots. If they're this good on a soft opening, I'd like to come back when they're officially open since I have had a good first impression thus far. read more

First time trying Oolong Tea Project after hearing about it on social media! Newly opened in the Tawa Marketplace next to 99 ranch market. Current hours are from 12-7pm! Parking lot is large enough, but gets crowded due to customers from the market. Expect a 45-50 minute wait to order, then another 20 minutes to receive your drink. The line doesn't wrap around the store, it's located inside the lobby of 99 ranch market. So expect a little A/C and an indoor wait time. I would advise to bring a fan when it's 90F+ It's gets hot over time. When receiving the drinks, expect an automated number system to call out your order. It's hard to hear if you're sitting in the back of the store. I missed my order, and my drinks were melting on the counter. I ordered the: Light Roasted Tea latte - 50% sweet Very smooth and a light roasted taste. But overall slightly underwhelming. I expected more of a stronger tea forward taste. Dark Roasted Tea Latte w/ boba - 30% sweet. Boba is nicely chewy & has a brown sugar base. Again, underwhelming with the tea taste. I was lucky enough to have a friend who waited in line for me and order for me and another group of friends. This was the Monday right after their grand opening, so as you imagine, still quite busy. They have the line inside the 99 Ranch market indoor plaza part, so you don't have to wait out in the sun. They have complimentary water at the outside part before you enter the cafe, which is nice. Simple and modern interior, a couple seats on the inside. I suppose pet friendly since I've seen some dogs in and out, unclear if they were service dogs or not, but I can test this out with my bearded dragon one day maybe, trust. You order at a kiosk and then you can pick up your drinks after. Simple, minimal aesthetic. They have plastic cup holders and blue cup sleeves. Potentially maybe someone should have double checked their designs for things since one of the lids, unscrambled oolong and just says "GOON", so you're technically drinking GOON milk or GOON tea, very FUNNY. Anyways, I got to try their dark roasted oolong milk tea, which is recommended on their menu. I got it less ice, 50% sweet. It was alright. Slight roasted flavor, it's a standard oolong milk tea. For a place named Oolong Tea Project, I was expecting a stronger tea flavor. This tasted a bit watered down and diluted. I know it might be because I lowered the sweetness, but I do that so I don't drink sugar milk. I want to be able to taste more subtle flavors, I want the flavor of the tea to be enhanced. This was not it and I'd honestly mald if I had to wait 40 minutes - over an hour like some people. Maybe I'll give them another shot in the future and this was just being opened fumbles, but with so many overseas franchises coming to the US, I'm not sure that Oolong Tea Project can complete. I've been to their locations in Taipei and Seoul, and whatever I drank here was not it. Take away the novelty of being new and you're left with $7 sugar water. For a place known for oolong, you're better off going to Guiji or Teazzi. +1 extra star for the great service though. read more

My friend and I made the mistake of coming here after dinner at exactly 6:59pm without realizing that they closed at 7pm; fortunately, they were super understanding and let us in to order. The oolong tea latte was very surprisingly pleasant. It had a nice balance of the roasted flavor I was looking for without losing out on the oolong flavor or being drowned out by the milk. The hojicha milk tea was good, but a tad grainy so I wasn't too into it. Tea jelly was just okay, it didn't really add or take away from the drink so I probably wouldn't get that again. To be completely honest, the tea flavor here doesn't quite hit the exact same level of depth and aroma as the original stores in Taiwan, but it is still a very solid and decent tea option for the San Gabriel Valley. I ordered the pearl milk tea and found it to be below average in quality, even when compared to more inexpensive boba places like Sharetea or Sunright. If Oolong Tea Project is supposed to be more artisanal in quality, it was hard to tell. The drink itself was watery and bland, and it was difficult to detect an oolong tea flavor, or even a milk flavor, for that matter. The boba was hard and flavorless. My boyfriend got the grapefruit oolong tea with the oolong tea jelly, and it was decently flavorful. Aside from our somewhat lukewarm impression of the drinks, we found the staff to be friendly and efficient, passing out menus and cups of water to those waiting in line. They were also respectful of the restaurant next door, and made sure that the line was not obstructing their storefront. The ordering kiosk is not programmed properly, as the store was running out of boba, the system allowed us to order boba drinks but won't complete the payment. 2. The drink is strong, but nothing special about it. I ordered tea jelly instead of boba, it added flavor but too much tea to a strong milk tea drink. 3. The store locked the back door, only allowing customers to be in and out the front, which created a confusing situation among the customers returning for pickup. Orders: Green Plum Spring Oolong with Tea Jelly 100% Sweetness Orange Spring Oolong with Tea Jelly 50% Sweetness First off, I don't know if it was the fact that we were 1 of the last people of the day but the quality and the taste of the tea was super poor. We waited about 30mins to get our order. While the orange oolong had the tea jelly, mine was completely absent of it. I honestly should have gotten mine 25% sweetness because my tea was borderline syrupy and way too sweet at 100% sweetness for the Plum Oolong. I don't know if the flavoring for the tea was sweetened but it was ridiculously sweet that I had to throw mine away. Orange Oolong at 50% was pretty sweet but it tasted metallic and more lemony than orange. Was excited by the ambience and the decor of the place, but the quality and taste is completely lacking. Management seems very nice but they seem to be confused on how to operate because after they closed the doors as the last customers, they kept the kiosk on and not put any signs or ribbons in front to prevent more people from coming in. I say this because I noticed the workers making tea was so distracted and distraught from 1 new order that they stopped everything to talk amongst each other on what to do which resulted in wasting time. I didn't even get to try this place. I called ahead of time at 6:30PM to ensure they'll take my order as long as I'm in line by 7PM. The worker confirmed they didn't have a last call and I would be good to come. I arrived at 6:53PM and the workers turned me away saying their last call was at 6:30PM. I protested saying a worker confirmed there was no last call. This was a huge gap in training and communication, and I wasted 45 minutes of my life driving here. Oolong tea project took zero accountability and just told me they'll retrain. As a new business, I recommend they improve their customer service skills. Bummer because I loved their tea in Taiwan, but this left a sour taste in my mouth. read more
