I never thought that I would pay to spend a night in jail and actually enjoy it!…read more This hotel was recommended by one of my business partners when I was meeting them in the Netherlands. I typically quite conservative when on business travel and prefer to stay at a Hilton or similar. Also, I steer away from "themed" hotels both on business and leisure, but this was one of the only options near the meeting venue so I went with it. The Arresthuis hotel is certainly not one of these tacky themed places, the prison theme is, believe it or not, very stylish. When we arrived around 10pm, I had quite the challenge navigating the pitch dark parking lot, it would have been helpful to have a bit of light. My colleagues and I were disappointed to hear that the restaurant was closed for the night already. However, the receptionist offered to check and gave us a glass of champagne while we were waiting. After less than 5 mins, he came back telling us we were welcome to eat in the bar, but they could only serve steak and fries. Again I was wary since they didn't ask how we wanted our steak cooked. But the steak was cooked beautifully medium rare and it was just what the doctor ordered after a long day. The next day's breakfast was also very good, quite the spread, including free flow bubbles if you wanted! The size of the room was quite impressive, the bed was comfortable and I liked the non-traditional layout. However, I thought the bathroom was too dark which makes make-up in the morning difficult. Actually even my male colleagues commented about the lack of sufficient light in the bathroom area. Overall I liked the atmosphere. The service, rooms and F&B options were good so I would certainly go again when in the area.

Breakfast is included- and is elegant and rich- hard boiled eggs, meat/cheese tray, bowl of breads, and coffee/juice. Would prefer to have been given choices only not to waste such great food. I find after traveling for many days I sometimes want something plain for breakfast such as oatmeal, plain scrambled eggs or simple bowl of fruit. Room was large- 2 full size closets plenty of hangers, shelf space, robe provided. Fireplace which warmed things quickly. Nice Neopresso machine in room with glasses and beautiful selection of coffees- too bad there were no directions on how to use it- so I didn;t. Big cozy towels, comfortable beds. Plenty of outlets for charging all those electronics we travel with. Bathroom is modern- big tub in room- shower/toilet glass-sexy for traveling with your companion- not so much for family travels. Staff was extremely helpful- carrying bags-checking in, finding parking and in general very attentive to those staying at the Hotel. There is an excellent restaurant on site that is packed every night so be sure to let staff know if you want to eat there. Music from the restaurant does vibrate upper sleeping rooms- so that may be something to consider when booking. Unfortunately I did not have time to see if the location was walkable to shopping, other restaurants or area attractions. Nijmegen seems to have a vibrant city with a lot happening- the restaurant was packed both nights i stayed there. This is definitely a property to stay at when visiting this part of the Netherlands- Thanks to an excellent staff!!

Both nights it was quite loud until the wee hours of the morning. We did have an issue with air conditioning. It did not cool our room & luckily it was cool enough at night that once the noise let up a bit, we were able to open the window to cool it down.
