My fiancé and I wanted to join a post and become members of the auxiliary to help serve the community. We joined this post about a year and a half ago. Paid our dues and filled out the paperwork. We frequently went in for food with our family and joined in on some of the events they held. We asked about the meetings and even tried to attend on two separate occasions. Not even the barmaids knew a meeting was supposed to happen on either occasion. We stopped going and then I realized that neither of us have received a membership card. I called the post 3 times over serval weeks and never received a call back. I then took my concern the people in Columbus, Ohio. Suddenly our membership has been voted on and denied in a matter of two weeks. My fiancé has served 20 years in the Marines and served over seas on two tours. This is how this particular VFW treats it's vets. They are nothing more than a bar! They are not a private club. The doors are never locked and don't require a key card and they don't ask for membership. If we were looking for a bar than we wouldn't have waisted our time or money joining this post. Now after almost 2 years, our membership has suddenly been denied and no refund has been issued. So, not only is this post a nothing more than a bar in disguise, it also steals from actual veterans of foreign wars. read more
