I've been doing professional conferences for 10+ years in Canada, the US and Europe and I have to…read moregive the prize to the this convention centre for having the most confusing layout I have ever encountered. The centre spans a few city blocks, and is on a hill, so while you may start at the 300's at one end of a floor, you may find yourself looking at 400 rooms as you keep walking. At one end, you enter at ground level and go up an escalator, and then somehow end up in the basement of the adjoining Delta Hotel. Some of our sessions were in one wing, and others were around the corner and up an escalator in a different section. Once on the upper floor, some blocks of rooms were hidden behind lobbies and double glass doors, with no signs to help you find them (I had to ask to many staff members where to go, sometimes multiple people to get to the same room). Some of the sessions were so far from where coffee was served at break I didn't have time to get there and back without interrupting a session. I chaired a session in one of the rooms, and the podium was directly in front of the screen, making it difficult to present and speak to the audience without turning back and forth. The laser pointers provided were a joke - a foot long and about an inch and half in diameter, weighing at least a kilogram. They were clunky and uncomfortable to use, and looked like giant light sabres. The audio and video did work well in the rooms that I attended sessions in, but overall everything just seemed off. I've been to worse convention centers (Houston, I'm looking at you), but this one was pretty bad.

Plenty of jokes and interesting descriptions about the history of the place. This building was originally a jail when it was built, intended to reflect the ideology of a British man who was set on reforming prisons. Like many countries when faced with an influx of immigration, the population housed in the jail were disproportionately made up of immigrants being punished for minor offenses. It was later converted to an English-language college that didn't last very long. The building finally wound up becoming an English-language library that now serves as the English-language cultural center of Quebec City. The library is filled with artifacts as well. And that old library smell is heavenly! The tour was a little boring, but not terribly, which is the only reason I give it 4 stars. I would have liked some more photographs from that time to be displayed throughout (even though I know they're probably incredibly rare). I did find myself checking my watch, but probably because we came in starving. If you're a history buff, library nerd, or jail hobbyist (lol), definitely try to check this place out.

Salad was equally good as well. Fresh veggies at lunch makes me feel less guilty. The lamb was heavy. Like pulled pork kind of heavy. But it was mixed in a very delicious sauce. The ciabatta was a bit crunchier than I prefer. It was like eating a sandwich made from birch bark. You know the feeling when you eat a sandwich and it scrapes the roof of your mouth? Well that's how crunchy the bread was. Not fun. Overall this was a small negative in an otherwise flavorful and delicious meal. I much prefer these kinds of establishments than eating Subway blehhh.

First off, let me say that Lysanne and her catering team of cooks and servers are nice people with a lot of heart. Their menu is wonderful and their food is gourmet and delicious. However, Lysanne's poor customer service, client communication and event management leading up to and during our wedding reception was both stressful and disappointing. I'm giving them 2 stars overall to reflect that poor service. I have many examples but here are just a few- they changed the contract and increased our price a week before the wedding, they did not deliver the guest table set up they agreed to do, they forgot to serve my groom and I champagne for our toast, they were very slow to serve the meals with just 32 guests, they brought a broken chocolate fountain for our dessert which forced us to change our event timing for the evening. La Mangue Verte insists they are an experienced, premium caterer but they seem pretty scattered and unprofessional, with a lot of bugs to work out. The worst is that Lysanne was not open to hearing our feedback but instead blamed the problems on ongoing 'misunderstandings,' despite the fact that I had excellent experiences with all our other wedding vendors. To be fair, I think La Mangue Verte deserves 5 stars for the food quality and 1 star for poor service, which averages to 3 stars. She also opened up the bar but had moved on to ring others up by the time I wanted to get a drink (perhaps they were shortstaffed that day). The highlight of the visit was the opportunity to make your own "maple on snow" or maple taffy. An assistant poured a strip of maple syrup onto a cold, snowy surface and you grab a stick and slowly roll up the syrup as it hardens into a lollipop. The taste and texture were amazing! Definitely a unique experience.

The pure maple syrup pie and maple yule log were a yummy way to end the meal. Overall, it was a good experience and worth going at least once while in the Quebec City area.
