This place deserves 5 stars just by existing!!!!…read more While there are many recycling centers all over the city, most of them only take plastics and soda cans; very few of them take metals. I called around and luckily one of the plastic recycling centers told me about them. I called in advance to check if they'd take the steel bars I had and a real person answered the phone on first ring!! That is a rarity in today's world. She was very helpful and answered all my questions. The next day I came - took me some time to get here but once I got here they gave me clear instructions on what to do. They weighed my car before and after I unloaded the metals; their system used the difference to calculate the money they would pay and gave me a ticket to go get the money from the cashier. I was super impressed by their streamlined process! Inside the dump yard everyone was helpful and assisted me. The entire thing took only a few minutes. But here's the REAL lesson I learned at this place : modern humans (we, that is) create so much trash - mounts of paper boxes, piles of metals, mountains of used auto parts... it was shockingly eye opening to see how much they had collected!!! After seeing this place, there's no excuse that we must reduce, reuse, and recycle !!!

I got a quoted price range on Yelp. and they paid what they said they would, and the price that was offered was quite good. This isn't my usual experience with other metal recyclers. Probably because business is so competitive and price of copper is down, I have experienced with others is they quote a high price, and then offer a much lower price in person. If you are selling metal, the process is to park your truck in the lot, remove any plastic bags or extraneous material, check with the weighing office to understand how to separate your goods, put the metal into a flat dolly or plastic bin, and bring it back to be weighed and payed. Good Work!

Strapped for cash? Do you have a bunch of bottles, cans, scrap metal, electrical wires lying…read morearound? You're in luck! Go get them recycled! Not only does it promote earth-friendly practices, you also get some money back in return. Fortunately, there are places like the Downtown Metals & Recycling Center to help you out with that! What sweetens the deal with this place is that it's open 24 hours a day! How convenient is that? Word of caution: This is in Downtown's Warehouse district, which means it's not the nicest of neighborhoods. That being said, the later you go there, the shadier the characters seem to get. But does this fact scare away our heroine, her roommate and a Honda Fit full of electrical wiring on a Thursday night? Hardly. It's a little tricky to spot, especially heading southbound to the place since it's in such an unassuming building left hand side (It's just south of the Texaco in a blue building). What's nice is that you can pull right into the building, or park the car just outside or on the street (we opt to head right in). They have various containers of different sizes for you to unload your stash, but I highly recommend pre-packing your goods beforehand to make things go faster, then you can load it all up into a rolly bin quicker and you're good to go. They recycle boxes too if you used them for transport, but you don't get any money for that. Another word of caution: Yes. The place has a lingering odor of alcohol and bum. Yes, there are some unsavory characters hanging about. For sure you're going to want to wash/sanitize your hands and/or just bring gloves with you because the whole place is filthy. And it goes without saying I locked and alarmed my car whenever I stepped 5 paces away from my car. For those of you who aren't so keen on this kind of encounter, just think of it as broadening your horizons. What I found entertaining as my roommate raked in her cold, hard cash ($75 worth) is to step on the big scale for large volume weigh-ins. It's like going on the carnival where your weight is displayed at the cashier's booth. I haven't weighed myself in a minute, and it's a good thing, I suppose. But oh, it's off since I'm carrying this huge Rubbermaid container. Ah, wait, I have my cell phone with me, and my keys. Um, I'm wearing this jacket also, and these shoes have a bit of weight on them, too right, and there's my glasses and my ponytail elastic...
