At the end of our dinner at Lee Ho Fook, we had asked for a recommendation for where we should go for our Fri lunch the week we were in Melbourne. Chef Victor shared Ondo City was his current favorite; he recommended one other restaurant, but it was clear he's passionate about Ondo City. So off we went on Fri to Ondo City for lunch!
Chef Victor did not steer us wrong. Ondo City is a brightly lit spot, and comes across as a casual, modern Korean restaurant. It's located/attached to a hotel next door. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch!
Reviews directed us to the Yukhie (raw beef tartar) Bibimbap and Dwaeji Galbi (soy marinated grilled pork neck), as well as the Mugwort Latte and Black Sesame Latte, so that's what we got! We like our banchan, so we ordered the "set" version for both dishes. Everything was delicious! Portions were just right too, with just enough of each of the side dish, leaving us full, but wanting more. Between the two, I liked the Yukhie Bibimbap slightly more. The drinks were decadent as well.
Word of advice: Seeing that Ondo City opens till 10 pm, we tried to come here ~9:30 pm Thu night. Sadly we came to an Ondo City that's already closed, with a worker inside just cleaning up. Given this experience, I recommend coming in the middle of their opening hours, or better yet, make a reservation if you decide to come for dinner! read more
