So... one of my trees fell and hit a neighbor's roof, and did some cosmetic damage, nothing structural. I scoured craigslist for a good roofing contractor and came up with a dozen or so, called about 5 of them. And I have to say of all of them, Kimo at On The Roof was the most professional. He charged me a bank $$$$ for an emergency service, simple as putting on tarp temporarily, then after he found out I have asked around for pricing, he hot mad and confronted me that I didn't give him business and got defensive and acted like a child. I will start by saying my new roof is beautiful. However, the roofers left a disgusting amount of debris inside my attic and installed my roof on top of damaged tresses, which they obviously knew the condition of since they were walking all over them, but decided to say nothing to me. When my contractor went up to inspect what On top had done he couldn't believe the amount of debris left behind nor the fact that none of the workers said anything to me about the condition of what they were installing on top of. On Top Roofing replaced my original shingles 13 years ago in 2010. Couple days ago I noticed 1 shingle lying on my 1st story roof, so I called On Top Roofing and Kimo answered the phone and assured me that he would send someone to look at my 1st & 2nd floor roofs for the missing shingle. Sure enough 1 day later Sheldon from On Top Roofing came and within 2 minutes on the 2nd floor roof he found the area where the shingle had blown off from the strong winds. Sheldon then nailed & glued back the shingle and also check the other shingles close by and also secured them. He then walked around the entire 1st & 2nd floor roof to see if any more shingles needed to be secured. Even though it has been 13 years since the installation, Kimo told me that he would not charge me for the job. What a great company! They did a great job 13 years ago installing our shingles and to know now that they stand behind their work with great maintenance service. Normally with a labor-intense job like roofing, you have to be really careful because the guys on the job don't always work as good as the salesman can talk. Not so with On Top Roofing. Our foreman was Trell. With over 20 years of experience, he knew what he was doing, and kept his crew on track. When I would come home to inspect the work, Trell would come down from the roof and talk with me. He patiently answered all of my questions. Another guy, Pe'a, was a standup guy too. I have to give Kudos where they are earned. Each day, they put in solid hours, re-sealed the roof every evening, and even picked up all of the little trash that is a normal course of this kind of work. Terrific job guys. You gotta hear this! About one month ago Honolulu had very gusty 50 mile per hour winds. My shingles got damaged. I needed a new roof job. I have not even completed my roofing job yet but am very impressed with Kimo's honesty and desire to help! My home is on the market for sale but looks to need repair. Kimo has not only been in touch with the manufacturer's rep for the shingles, as they appear prematurely worn, but has even recommended different courses of action, including initiating a claim. He also stated that the repair can be done over the surface of the existing shingles instead of having to remove all of them, which would cost a lot more money. If his work is anything like the interaction we have had thus far, I look forward to a terrific repair experience. Cont'd: So, I received approval from my HOA, scheduled with Kimo & John, and had the work completed in under a week when all was said and done. And actually, we got down to 2 days prior for the approval and John was still able to get the shingles ordered and the solar panel disconnected the day prior. The work was completed on a Saturday and was ready for inspection/appraisal that Mon. Not to mention, the claim is being worked already. All as advertised and certainly better than could be expected. Several weeks later, after insurance verification, Trell and his crew did the job is a few hours. I had a emergency roofing leak situation that became apparent this past Saturday late evening during some heavy rains in Central Oahu. The next day, Sunday I called several roofing companies when most roofing businesses are normally closed to address the leak in my roof. Not really expecting anybody to answer their phones on a Sunday, I didn't think anything could be done until Monday. Low and behold Kimo from On Top Roofing called within a couple hours on his day off and told me he would come to my house later that Sunday afternoon to assess the situation. I had asked him to just do a emergency temporary repair until I could get a more permanent fix done at a later date. Kimo took it upon himself to personally get the job done sooner than later and took care of the roofing repair himself. Most of the water proofing and roof repair was taken care of by Kimo. He told me he would have to send a couple of his workers to finish the job to completion at a later date since he had other jobs that needed tending to. Kimo and his team are an A+ team of Master Roofsmen!! I had a wonderful experience with On Top Roofing. Kimo is very honest, reasonable, reliable and personable. The house inspector that came to inspect my house made assertions that the roof had a high probability of leakage and also had 6 years or less of usage life left. I quickly disputed the house inspectors claims and was put in touch with Kimo to survey the roof and give me his professional opinion. Kimo is an expert on Monier Tile Roofs, and after careful observation of my roof, told me that the house inspector got it all wrong! My roof was in great shape, no leakage whatsoever and at least 10-15 (conservative) years of life usage in front of it. He suggested some minor maintenance and a power wash to maintain longevity. He gave me a fair price and came out that same weekend to get the job done. Big Ups to Alfred, one of his main guys, for coming out on his Saturday to get the job done for me. I've been in the market for a new shingles for quite some time. I have a tall home that requires a 30' ladder and you'd think that there is only one on island. Some roofers only gave me an estimate from a satellite image. One gave me one based on nothing but his opinion from looking at the roof (which you can not see or access from the house). All of the quotes I received prior going to On Top Roofing were much higher than expected for the small size of my roof. I'm so glad I contacted On Top. Kimo actually got an estimator on the roof and provided me with a great quote, it beat all the others easily but included everything that the higher estimates had. When I finally got a live voice, they said they would call me back the following week. Guess what? Again, no calls, not even a quote. Two other roofers were able to give me an estimate within couple days. My total experience with these guys were at least 2 weeks. Kimo and his crew were awesome. I just purchased a house and ended up with a bad leak that caused my dining room ceiling to collapse. I put a temporary patch on it, but when removing the patch to put a more permanent one on, it also removed all the surrounding rust leaving a 3 inch hole in the valley of my roof. I contacted Kimo, and he had a crew out the next day, on a Saturday. They did a great job quickly replacing the whole valley.
