Random suggestion to management but it is literally too dark in there lol. I went there for a birthday party and literally every single person I talked to complained about how dark it was that you could barely see the person that you were speaking to. Used to play at the Roxy downstairs. Went to a private RSVP only party The music was great, I personally know the DJ and he's a great guy. About an hour or so, a section of rowdy rich kids started chanting "change the music" Long story short, the bouncer was able to be swindled into kicking the DJ off. And replacing him with mainstream trash Don't go here; this place is shady. I used to play at the downstairs room with my band and they were shady 8 years ago, they still are now. read more

Maybe it was just last night, or maybe it was something else. A few months ago I might have 4 or 5 starred this place but I think it was more about the party than the actual place. Last night as it was more about the venue than the party, I think I can give it a fair assessment. We came here and drank Zombies. They were pretty weak in comparison to other places. "I feel like I'm getting my dose of vitamin C with this." the best said. As the only times I've been here have been for private parties I never had to pay a cover. As I drive a scooter I never have a problem with parking. If you've ever been to Sunset though you know its a pain in the ass. Given that last night was a holiday you could multiply that by at least 20. That said, I would say that for a private party, this is a great little spot as far as what there is to offer you once you get inside. Its got booth seating and stools at the private bar as well as stripper poles.. erm.. dancing poles & a stage. There were a couple of really grand parties here but the drinks sucked and the staff there is rude & they aren't subtle about it. I heard one talking about how they loved watching the stupid drunk girls because the tips were great. Went here for the first time yesterday. The parking sucks, be ready to pay at least $10 for a parking garage. They don't open until 11pm, so don't get there earlier than that. You gotta climb quite a few stairs to get in and out so I wouldn't recommend getting mega trashed here. They are pretty damn pricey, so just know that too. A shot is $14, so yeahhh. Inside the bar is extremely dark, so don't worry so much about how you look. Most people will barely even be able to see you. The perimeter of the bar has couches to sit on, and there's stools at the bar. DJ fish was pretty bomb, he played good music all night. I think you are allowed to smoke in there because there was some chick smoking a blunt by the DJ and I saw smoke puffs through the night from others. The music got pretty loud at one point so be ready to be screaming at your friends to talk. There was no cover charge to get in. read more

Came here for the Opus Label/Perez Hilton Party. The highlights were getting to meet Perez Hilton and to see the fabulous Jeremy W. who threw this thing have a successful night. The place, well, it's cool because it's got history and is in Hollywood. There are windows and you can see a bit of our beautiful city from up there since On The Rox is above The Roxy. However, the place was not too full and it was pretty hot. Granted it was an August night in Los Angeles but still. Nobody was really dancing or anything and it wasn't jam packed so why did it get so hot? I really take the AC in a place seriously because I can't stand the heat. Even though it is a small place the On The Rox staff were not that quick at clearing tables. There's a pretty decent sized bar in here. There are some cool looking couches to kick back on. As you can imagine, parking is HELL. You pretty much need to pay for it unless you are willing to walk a good distance and even then you are really lucky to find free parking. read more

On the Rox is on top of the Roxy. I remember years ago hanging in this general area and hanging at Rainbow with my rock boys. How did I never know On the Rox was here? You go up a flight of stairs. Some $5 beer specials and some other drink specials. They need better ventilation in there but every old school venue is like that in LA so oh well. My friend Jordan and I went to On the Rox last night for the first time for Travis Garland's set. DRINKS: The drinks were great and reasonably priced by Hollywood standards. My cosmopolitan (yes, I drink girly drinks, sue me) didn't taste strong in the bitter sense, but proved to pack quite a punch, which can only mean either that someone roofie-d me, or the bartender has considerable skill. (I prefer to go with the latter explanation.) DECOR: The decor is nice. I really can't think of a stronger or more descriptive word to describe it. There were seats at the bar and various couches and chairs, some of which were marked as 'reserved'. No one seemed very interested in sitting, which I would take into consideration if you're thinking of purchasing bottle service. However, one thing that did confuse me were the IKEA-status black curtains strung up over various windows. Like - really? IKEA? CLIENTELE: Yes, there were celebrities there, and one paparazzi-guy outside. I wouldn't go here expecting to see anyone, but the bar is very small so if there is someone there you won't miss them. Again, because everyone was mingling with everyone and the bar is so small, it was easy enough to introduce yourself to your favorite celeb (whereas in a bigger club they'd probably be hidden away in the VIP section). I was also able to meet Travis and his band with no problem, no line, and no drama. However, what really impressed me was how considerate everyone at this club was. There was none of that pushing/shoving/bitch please nonsense that goes on at other venues/clubs, at least not last night. In fact, two girls insisted I stand in FRONT of them when they realized I couldn't see too well (I'm only 4'11)! The age range was about 21-35, plus a few managers and family members of course. SERVICE: Bartender was great. Door-woman was hilarious. STAIRS: So the cosmo was only my second drink of the night, but I hadn't eaten much, so it really did get me. There are steep stairs everywhere in this joint. I discovered this the hard way as I tried to gracefully exit the ladies' room in my four-inch heels and basically nearly ate shit stumbling down the stairs. I was all the way to my knees when a very friendly guy (also Travis's drummer!) caught me and picked me up. Again - friendly people night! WILL I BE BACK??? You bet! read more

I've been here a couple of times, and am still not totally sold on it. I think I prefer being downstairs in The Roxy itself. I don't know what it is about this place that doesn't really do it for me. It seemed like drinks were even more expensive here but I could be wrong. Such a chill spot when not too packed. I've been here a few times for friends that have performed at On the Rox, drink prices are decent. They got couches for "Bottle Service" but it didn't seem that exclusive. Noise level, can't hear myself talk, but don't need too if you're listening to music. Came here because a friend of a friend of a friend was performing... a rapper.. he was "aiiiiight".. $10 cover Very intimate venue... like really intimate... like the stage is a 10 inch raised platform in the corner of the lounge. Bartender at On the Rox is a fox! Melony was her name?? She is top notch. Drink prices were about $7 out the well. Lots of cushy seating. I got the feeling you could pretty much wear whatever you want. Like if you wore your prom dress you wouldn't feel over dressed and if you wore your PJs you wouldn't feel under dressed. Did you know there's a bar above the Roxy? I didn't either. I like On the Rox (ha ha - you get the name?) way more than I like the Roxy itself. Maybe that's because I knew one of the guys in the band that was playing so he got me on the list and had his own reserved booth, but even if I didn't, it still seemed like a pretty cool place. It's a smaller venue so you're closer to the music, the band and the bar. There are stripper poles around the area but there's not enough room to actually do anything on them (people usually congregate around then for whatever reason). There are black leather booths on the side of the room so if you're lucky enough to get one, you can chill and enjoy the hubbub around you. Last thing, if you're going to park, I highly suggest the parking lot right after the Roxy. It's $8 for self parking but the thing is, the times I've had to park there, the guy has been SUPER nice. Last night, I was only parked there for maybe an hour and a half and he actually refunded $4 to me! I don't know he does that to everyone but he's always super friendly and I can't help but promote the guy. read more

So this obscenely crude door lady with a clipboard let us up after we told her who we were and who we came to see. She was hilarious. The place is above the Roxy, and is extremely small. The bands were pretty good and we sat next to some randies in a booth, but otherwise the booths are usually reserved I think. Drinks are typical hollywood prices. I think you have to know someone playing to get in. And oh...the scooter girl...the chick with high rainbow socks who was on stage, sitting down and out of her mind, writhing around to the music. been up here a few times after various shows with my friends and have enjoyed being in a place where everyone is super chill. lots of fun and drinking and yelling across the room. love it. i like the small space and the fact that everyone can see everyone, no losing you friend or that hot guy/gal you eyed as you walked in. overall, if you can get in-go for it. check it out. its a bit of history of the venue. why not? and if you dont like it, well then thats all good. read more

I just hired a babysitter payed a lyft and came to sunset strip from Silverlake to go to my dear friends birthday party when we first arrived they said they would let us in but not until 10:30 so after waiting an hour at the nearby bar we went back and the door guy was about to let us in after being rude and frankly sexist to my girlfriend and I the manager with blond curly hair and an ego the size of Texas said he 86ed my friend from this place and that she would have to go in a cab home if I wanted to get in. Never heard of the place until I was invited by my agent to the galore magazine party. He had me RSVP and whoever I wanted to bring with. Their way of looking at the list is like any other club. You have to know someone. Me and my gf waited 20 mins with maybe 15 other ppl slowly going in. Some guy comes out and pulls the door guy to the side and told he they are obviously models let them in. That's shouldn't matter. There was clearly suppose to be two lines cuz there was one sign that said on the list and another that said buy tickets. They seriously need to get their shit together at the front. I could see if it was just any day but the fact that it was a magazine party with an RSVP list, wow! read more

I've been to the Roxy a couple of times but never been invited to the upstairs venue before until attending a private party up there. Small bar where you could walk the place in about 15 seconds. Bar is nice with enough bottle choices which includes beers. I don't believe there are any taps. The one big problem with the place is, like a lot of venues. the acoustics. It was already pretty loud when I first got there and then about a half hour into my stay, a band started playing and then it became almost impossible to chat things up. Pretty much everyone in the room (about 30 people) was complaining about that. Beyond that, in many ways it's a cooler venue than the Roxy downstairs and got to love the couches all over the place. read more

I went here on Mother's Day weekend '13 to see a friend's band play. It is a very intimate venue, and the bartender we had was fantastic. Not only was she nice, and quick with the drinks, but she is one of the main reasons that I now live in Sweden today. She encouraged me and my friend to talk to some visitors, and BOOM, I'm in a new country. I wish I remembered her name. I would write her a thank you letter. Anyway, I'm not saying that you will meet the love of your life here, and that they will whisk you away to exciting European destinations, but it could happen. P.S. The bar next door (Rainbow Bar) frequently has Swedes and Norwegians visiting.... Just saying.... read more

Great place with a great atmosphere that most will never see. That is because it is a private club. And wow...if those walls could talk. This yelp version is outdated as the club was recently remodeled by Matt Winter ( Gjusta, Malibu Burger ) and is cozy and sex. Great drinks. Amazing staff. read more

The newly remodeled On The Rox is awesome. They really cleaned this place up. The old place was 80s fabulous with booths and now its full of couches and lounge areas. I will for sure be coming back here in the near future. My only issue was there were not enough bartenders for the full house that night. It was somewhat frustrating waiting at the bar. I also felt there were too many people in the room. Other than that I had a great time and plan on returning. read more

I think I've officially been banned here for the over use of the strip pole. Nah I'm kidding. This is the club above The Roxy. You know that big silver door you see next to the ticket window with normally a HUGE security guard outside waiting to pounce on you! I use to be here every other night but that was ages ago! I still come here every now and then when they have bands playing. Back then, On The Rox didn't have a stage but they re-molded the corner booth and added a stage. The sounds not too bad and there's a good crowd. Everyone comes here from celebrities, your friends, your neighbor, cousin, ex-boyfriend and perhaps your high school english teacher. If your not on the guest list you won't get in. If you know the door guy you'll get in. If you're not on the guest list, don't know the door guy but slip him a few $$$ then you can get in. It's insanely packed after shows from The Roxy because everyone migrates here for the after party. There's only one bathroom for girls and guys which is difficult to wait for. Drinks are expensive so be prepared to burn a hole in your wallet and dance all night till that security guard kicks you out :) read more

This might be one of the smallest venues I have ever been too and where I experienced the Hipster movement for the first time. I went here because my friend an extra ticket and blantanly told me the ticket was meant for someone else and I was next on the list, which I was totally fine with it because "you snooze you loose." I was so close to the stage I could see individual drops of sweat dripping off the guitar. The drinks weren't bad at all and I remember paying $16 for a zombie and an AMF. Small and intimate. Sound was ok, but the sound from the Roxy under us was making the floor shake.

I wasn't sure how it was going to work with the band playing so close to the audience (while sitting at the bar, I was only 2 arms' lengths away from the guitarist), but the night was an overall success. I agree with the reviewer that noted it's cool if you know the band playing since it's a tiny and quite intimate venue - which also makes things VERY loud (kudos to the guy in our party who brought a bag of foam earplugs. He saved my night.) I like the acoustics and spaciousness of the Roxy better, but On the Rox is still a fun, laid back place to go for a change of pace from the larger West Hollywood music venues. read more

Was invited to On the Rox for a friend's band's after party. I don't remember why exactly, but I wasn't so impressed with the place. It seemed to be just another hangout to get your drink on - the room was small in general and didn't offer much room to kick back because the few booths along the wall were already taken. The upside: the DJ from Incubus was spinning some great stuff and I had a blast drinking and chatting with my friends. read more

Its hard to really rate this good or bad. It's kind of cool to be above the Roxy, in an even more intimate setting. Good setup, can kick back from the booths, or get up close, and with the size, you're basically in the show. They have a bar too, but I didn't partake, so can't speak to the service or the prices. read more
