When you need a root canal, you hate to put it off. I was pleasantly surprised when I called and could get in that afternoon with the caveat that I may have to wait which was no problem. I took a book with me. I was there about 20-30 minutes when they took me in for some tests and was told I need a root canal. Dr. Pena said he could do it later that afternoon if I wanted to wait and I did. Later they took me back and he gave me shots to numb the area. It hurt so he gave me a shot in the tooth which totally numbed it and when he finished the pain was gone except for a mild ache if I tapped the tooth. Everyone at the office were pleasant and helpful. Dr. Pena was considerate and caring. Being able to get in quickly and get the problem resolved was really wonderful and very much appreciated. read more

I was referred to Dr Pena for a root canal. My first impression was that the front office staff were very courteous and professional. Then, when I met with Dr. Pena for my consult, he was equally courteous, caring and very informative of the procedure. During the procedure Dr. Pena made sure I was comfortable and numb before he started. I felt only slight discomfort and pressure from the procedure. My post op has been pain free, I did take Ibuprofen as a precaution the first night, but I think I could have not taken it and been fine. read more

Dr. Pena was the second endodontist that I consulted after the first one tried a root canal. She was unable to get me numb enough and so I walked out after two hours and set my appointment with Dr. Pena. The best part of the consultation was that Dr. Pena did NOT work on me and instead said that there would be no long-term solution and I should have it pulled. I did so and all is on the mend. Dr. Pena even followed up after to hear how it went... very appreciated. Normally I would not be taking the time to review any practice if they met minimum standards of their work, leave it like that but there may be other folks out there who hear the dreaded word "root canal" and if you're old enough the thought is enough to terrorize you. You receive a referral from your dentist sending you to a modern chamber of horrors, not sure what to expect. My personal dentist said no worries, he does excellent work. Upon arriving at the office, my suspicions rampant, I was met by reception and a team of professionals & I felt immediately welcomed. They could feel my anxiety and had the wherewithal to calm nervous patients down like me successfully. After my initial consultation, Dr. Pena began probing and analyzing the issue. When he was probing the gum line (which can be discomforting) you could tell he was the commensurate professional who is well aware of pain sensitivities in their patients. At this point I could tell that this was going to end up being a positive experience with a successful conclusion. Wow. I had to have a root canal during COVID. I ad seen Dr Pena before and so I didn't hesitate to call him again. My dentist,Stanley Farnam, said he was one of the best in town. Dr Pena was professional, caring and always does a fantastic job. I'm not very good with the. Numbing shots and he was very gentle. His staff was also caring and professional. I really don't want to be here, but my tooth hurts so here I am. Update: Whee.. All done!!. I had an infected cyst on my root. So numbed I can't feel my eye blinking, which is good considering what he had to so to get the cyst out. Only 200 smackers, so yay me. His office staff is super friendly and they understand that their "customers" are in pain and scared. The front office clerk kept me updated on the cost as I went through the process. The doctor was very gentle and liberal with the Novocaine. I would recommend this dentist for all your endodontical needs. read more

Dr. Pena and his staff are exceptional! I hate going to the dentist, but I broke a tooth and was unable to stay away. I was referred to Dr. Pena by another dentist and walked in terrified. In early November '13 had an excellent experience with Dr. Pena and all of his team. It was a first time appointment for me, and (like many others most likely)...I already had acute tooth pain and had quite an infection/swelling. It happened on a trip (ugh!)...drove back to Tucson...not able to sleep, eat...not good!. They got me in right away. The staff has a lot of experience in dealing with clients in pain...they were fairly quickly able to determine my tooth had fractured below the gum line and needed to be extracted. The procedure itself was the least painful part of this episode - in fact, I felt really no pain at all. Dr. Pena encouraged me to let him know if I was ever uncomfortable at all, and he was excellent at numbing the area, the tooth..everything. He is also calm and clear in telling you what to expect each step of the way (as were each of his team, from assistants to front desk and billing). Followup was great, including support after the procedure. My only wish is that I would have been able to go in sooner. Just do everything they recommend: take all the antibiotics, the ibuprofen (and painkiller if you need it), the special rinsing etc. (they give you a printed brochure after the procedure). All of that really does help your body to rid itself of the bacteria/infection. I would go back to him for any specialty dental needs: root canal, extraction, implants etc. Highly recommend Dr. Pena, and good luck with your dental issue. Blister in gum; dr. pena performed surgery; whatever he did, it resolved issue so I would definitely go back to him again. He seems to need the business since he was willing to accommodate me on the Friday morning the same week. Only cons were he does not explain what he is going to do though he does ask questions asked. When I asked for reason why blister happened in spite of my excellent dental hygine, he just shrugged and said he did not know. He seemed in hurry to finish up job and consultation and get it over with as soon as possible.
