The Olympic Diner is super convenient for me. it is located right down the block from where I live, so I have been here tons of times. I HAVE to take a star away, I really should take two but eh. EVERYTIME you call to place a order (I do take out often) you are put on hold, for a long long extensive amount of time. its actually unacceptable in my book. Last night I was on hold and I gave up, hung up and called again. Told the girl I was on hold for way too long and her response was that she needs to wait for the take out guy to be located...? well long story short, i was able to finally place my order with him. when i went to pick up my order there were two girls at the counter, as I'm confused why I needed to wait for the "take out guy" as these two girls seemed fully capable to take phone orders. Me and my family have been coming here for almost 15 years and something has changed. I tried ordering last night over the phone with no response. Went in person and it took ten minutes to speak to someone to get my order in. Was charged for three meals and only got two - which I noticed once I was home. I'd like to get a refund for $16 dollar chicken fingers I never received. But they never answer the phone! They can keep the tip, I just don't want to pay for something I never received. I came by with some of my cousins for a quick dinner and they mentioned that this was a great place to go. Unfortunately, I did not feel like the food was anything like they mentioned. I tried one of their soups and it was cold and clunky - nope. That definitely set the tone for the rest of the meal. They serve way too much food which is usually wasted. They also have way too many things on the menu which can definitely lead to poor quality dishes. I had the turkey with veggies and it was dry and bland. The only dish that was a "hit" was the chicken tenders and fries for my cousin. I'll definitely pass the next time but if you're looking for a true diner with less than great food, this is your spot! read more

What a disappointment. I spent almost $30 for takeout dinner because I had a hankering for shrimp scampi after a long day. The scampi was dry, hardly any sauce. They gave me the wrong dressing for my salad. (I put a whole serving of tartar sauce on my salad and ruined it.) They gave me mashed potatoes instead of sweet potato fries. Stopped in on a Sunday around 9:35am. It was quite nice, not a large crowd. By 10am the place was packed! Best dinner breakfast I have had in a while, service is nice and place was clean. Horrible experience. We walked in and the place was filthy- we should have left as soon as we noticed that. We sat down time seats were covered in crumbs. They brought me a high chair that was covered in jelly, she had to wipe it down 2 times and it was still dirty. I ended up taking the rag from her and wiping it down myself. We proceeded to order... 3.5 Olympic Diner, you surprised me. Stopped here for breakfast one Friday morning a couple of weeks back to treat my chauffeur for the day to breakfast. I Yelped for a near by dinner as we headed to the PC Richards outlet store, and Olympic had decent reviews. If I'm being candid, I wasn't expecting much - just some decent hot chocolate, eggs, and pancakes. Two out of three ain't bad. We both ordered the multigrain pancakes, which were actually very tasty. The hot chocolate, dolloped with whipped cream was also quite tasty (even though I'm sure it came from a package). They had turkey bacon and turkey sausage which was a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, I ordered my eggs poached, and it's clear that's a rare occurance there. It came out pretty raw, so I didn't eat it, and they didn't charge me. Our waitress was friendly, in a towny way, you won't see much of off the island. Price was a little expensive as the pancakes didn't come with turkey bacon/sausage or eggs, so we had to order things individually. Minor gripe. All in all, I'd eat here again on my way to PC Richards or Tanger Outlets at Deer Park and recommend you do too. read more

I am not in deer park that often but when I am, this is the only diner I want to go to b/c the others in the area were pretty bad. The service is usually pretty good except when you get one that is in a bad mood or is just a little. As for the dishes I would personally recommend... The greek salad with their house dressing which is really good. The Garden Grill sandwich. (Grilled chicken, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, basil on a multigrain toast with a balsamic reduction with fries. Its really good for a diner. I had a pastrami rueben which was pretty bad, the meat was off and was the cheapest meat I have ever had. I would never get this. The burger was a diner burger but I think if I based their review on this burger, I would give them 2 stars. Stick to the breakfast, greek salad and garden grill sandwich.. In my opinion, the way the Greek Salad is the best coming from here. As many diners that I have gone to, I have tasted few and far between 'amaze-balls' Greek salad. It's not hard to f**k up a Greek salad, but it's equally not hard to make it awesome. Thinly sliced red onion, Stuffed Grape leaves that are NOT old and NOT from a can please are much appreciated. Kalamata are traditionally the olive of choice in this salad. Unlike many I've been presented that have had black olives or even Capers!? 0_o Yuck! Good food & service received from this long standing Deer Park diner. It's been here forever, was renovated a few years back and still looks nice. Place is clean and popular with locals from surrounding areas. My turkey club was delicious. We stopped here as the half-way point from Merrick going out for a day of fun out east. I had not been here in many years and it seems to have gotten better with age. Would recommend. Big menu should please everyone, even picky eaters. read more

Date of visit: 03/29/2015 We were a party of four and we came with the intention of using a gift certificate that was won in a raffle. Three of the four decided to go with the grilled salmon and the 4th went with the seafood combo platter. We initially ordered off the regular menu but it was suggested by the waitress to just order the salmon as a lunch special. She said it was basically the same thing for half the price. Onion rings as a side were also ordered. Mind you, I haven't had onion rings in years, possibly even decades. But everyone agreed, these onion rings were fabulous! So we were off to a good start and when our main dish arrived we were all just as pleased. The salmon was cooked to perfection and my bros other seafood items, his combo included salmon, fillet of sole & shrimp, were also well prepared and tasty. Just so you know, I normally don't pick a diner when I go out to eat and would definitely not think to order fish at a diner. Thanks to my SIL, we all followed her lead and were extremely happy with our choice. The portions were huge and included a side and soup or salad. We all walked out very full and very pleased with this diner experience. Food was delicious and our waitress very friendly and accommodating. Thanks to the waitress's suggestion of ordering off the lunch menu we left with credit on the gift card. I will definitely be back - not just to use up the rest of the credit on the gift card but because I have nothing bad to say about the visit. read more

What can I say about this place.... Well, actually a lot. My family and I have been customers for at least 10 years now and are consistently there at least a few times a month. They shouldn't even bother handing us menus when they seat us. Overall, the diner benefits tremendously from being one of the few options for a "good place to eat" on deer park avenue. This reputation is well deserved as the food is actually very good. In our many meals there, I can't even think of a handful of times in which we had a poor experience. I even treat my friends to this place when they are in town. Most of whom now request that we go when they visit. The wait staff is sufficiently friendly and so are the hosts, but the real reason we dine there is for the food. This is definitely one of the best diners I've ever dined at. From the burgers to the pancakes, I always have a hard time ordering because I know that no matter what I choose I will enjoy. This is one of my favorite diners on Long Island. I didn't give it five stars because of the staff. Mostly young 20 something's who always look bored and don't want to be there, and it is reflected in their service. There are a few exceptions of course. The food is awesome. My favorite is the doc salad, which is a Greek salad topped with an enormous portion of marinated grilled chicken. Their home made Greek salad dressing is to die for. It's absolutely delicious. Olympic Diner is probably the best diner in Deer Park! It stands up to pretty much every other Long Island diner, has all of the offerings you'd expect and fits right in with them, price wise. I've eaten here at many different times in the day (morning, dinner, late-night) and tried a variety of dishes. I'll usually get two eggs, toast and fries if I'm feeling breakfast, or a hot open turkey sandwich if I'm feeling a bit more ambitious. The Hot open sandwiches come with a potato side and a vegetable, and if you're not feeling the vegetable the staff is more than happy to double up the potato. You get a soup or a salad as well, I usually go with the Matzoh Ball, it's really good! If you order from the specials menu for the day, you usually get the entree with a soup or salad, two sides and a dessert as well. I've also had the "Hangover Burger" from their late night menu which is excellent. I wasn't hungover, but when you put a fried egg on a burger with bacon, I'm sold. The staff is always nice and is usually attentive. I've never had a problem with the service. Since I'm in Dix Hills, this is definitely my diner of choice for this area. read more

Their meals are average, nothing special, homefries were aite, my salmon, spinach, egg and mc muffin with the fake, instant, looking hollandaise sauce was just aite. I walked out aite. Crispy Chicken Salad... typical, but MUST have with their house dressing, that you can purchase and make your own salad at home with... Fried Chicken Basket: in a word - AWESOME!! (get the fries well-done) Turkey Club: another diner staple done the right way.... I'm not a big fan of their burgers... maybe it's just me that I wish it wasn't just a frozen pattie thrown on a bun. If I wanted a basic and boring burger, I could walk 39 steps over to MickeyD's... Most of the time it's the same old specials with just a different day on the top of the page... They are good, but there isn't one I crave or need to order if it's on the menu...Hubs will sometimes order a fish special, he enjoys it... Breakfast food is your diner standard, and I do enjoy the Belgium Waffle. Desserts are DELICIOUS and helped bump this up to 3.5 stars!! Five stars - Partially out of loyalty to "The Diner", since I grew up here, but partially due to the fact that my family and I always leave feeling super full and satisfied. The waitstaff is usually very nice and the tables are always clean, even during the crazy Saturday rush. There's also a HUGE menu, but we typically order one of the many omelets. One of the better diners in the area, Olympic diner is a great place to find yourself when those late night hunger pangs come a knockin'. A classic decor complete with pre and post war lunch boxes adorn the walls, and the menu is typical of diners. The staff is great, and the food is well above average for diners. We had the Sunday afternoon specials, at 12.95 each including soup or salad and beverage. Wife had the New England clam chowder with the shrimp and strawberry salad, I had a salad and the grilled chicken sandwich. Starters OK, entree salad delicious with the dressing, shrimp, feta, almonds, strawberry, and mandarin orange all working well together. The grilled chicken was simple, but well executed, with tasty grilled peppers. The portions were so large that we each were able to pack leftovers for a future meal. Great place to come any time. The staff is nearly always friendly and quick. There are a few waiters and waitresses with a little extra personality that make it fun to sit in their sections. The portions are quite large; I almost always have enough to wrap up. The Santa Fe salad (without the shell) is excellent. The dressing is so good! Also, the Chicken Francese special has yet to disappoint. I usually substitute the pasta for mashed potatoes because there's just so much that I never end up eating it all. Only things that aren't my fave: the noise level can get a bit high, but it's never excruciating. Also, I've really only found that I like the chocolate pudding and the cookies. The cheesecake was grainy, the brownies were dry... no big deal though. read more
