It's so darn expensive in the city (up to 4 times the normal rate) during the few weeks of Oktoberfest. I finally gave up on all the snazzy "booking" software on the internet and decided to do it myself because most places are fully booked and what it did find was crazy expensive for even 2 and 3 star places. I merely used Google Earth to follow a metro line (S Bahn) leaving Munich and called the small local hotels near the metro stops a few miles from town. An 8 minute ride saved our group of 7 $500 per night!!

Sauna is much better than the average for a 4 star hotel, but sauna connoisseurs will find it merely acceptable. I really liked it! It's a mixed sauna like most are in Germany so if this us an issue you now know before getting embarrassed. Gym is very basic, but will give you a workout to survive a 2-3 day business trip if weather does not allow a good run. During my visit they forgot to restock shampoo once, which was a bit annoying. Room was not properly cleaned every day. Sloppy. One morning I got up later and trying to show at around 8 am was not very pleasant. No hot water left... Unacceptable. List prices are too high, and for private stays I would not see it justified to pay more than 120-130 EUR off-season and a bit more during summer. Conference area and business services were great. Free WLAN, projectors working, coffe, water, fresh fruit etc. I recommend this hotel for business and it's a maybe for private stays (there are other better and more cozy hotels in the area).

Just a short walk from the Marienplatz, you can easily and speedily train in from the airport. The hotel's spare, vaguely Japanese design appeals - think hardwood floors, muted colours, no superfluous object cluttering up otherwise open space - and so many of the little touches are ones I love like lavender-scented sleep spray next to your bed to spritz on your sheets, a terrific tea menu and an ambient music soundtrack that has twice helped me focus and power through work. The well-trained staff is attentive to your needs, whether they be for a classic cocktail in the lobby or internet access in your room. When I had trouble connecting to the wireless, someone was dispatched to upstairs with a CAT5 cable quicker than I could restart my MacBook! And unlike many hotels, the internets here are free (the way they should be!)

I was there on business (coming from vacation) and the airline had conveniently lost my bags. Joy. That said, I was checked in quickly and efficiently, handed a toothbrush and toothpaste by the sympathetic Front Desk and also told something about my key card -- to which I smiled and nodded (lost in translation). Upon getting to my room, I soon realized they had been telling me that my key card actually turns on the lights in my room. After several (OK, 10 minutes), of trying to figure out how, I located the thing-a-mig-jiggy by the door (technical term) and inserted my card: voila! Lights! The room itself is sparse, but has all your needs: nice bed, view of beautiful Munich, TV, cupboards, Free Internet (albeit very temperamental) and best of all: lavender sheet spray! I never figured out how to use the rain shower head, but did just fine with the other one that's in there. Hopefully future guests will have better luck. But best of all? The service AND the bar. After having many an expertly mixed cocktail in the hotel bar with my colleagues, I toddled myself over to the Front Desk in a borrowed sweater to inquire if my bag arrived. The (again) sympathetic chap said it hadn't arrived, but if I wanted, he would bring it up to me as soon as it did no matter what time. I eagerly nodded, fearing the worst: I would be arriving to my morning's meetings in sandals. But sure enough, at 4am I opened my door to see my waiting bag. Let's just say it was like Christmas had come early! After going that extra mile, the staff, convenient and beautiful location and clean interior would definitely have me excited to stay at Louis Hotel again. Let's just hope my bags come with me next time!

I found this place purely by accident on my way down from Andechs to Herrsching, and it was a…read moredelightful surprise: the menu offers exquisite combinations - some perfect, some intersting investigations into a new cuisine that combines eastern techniques with European classics in a minimalist way. I had two starters (and was offered a very good amuse gueule) for lunch and had enough, but the quantities are definitely not what you should come here for. But for surprisingly good cuisine, a beautiful setting and relaxation, yes, this is a correct place. I did not stay at the hotel but wandered around in the restaurant (I actually ate outside) and perused their brochure and I have no doubt the stay in the hotel is as rewarding as the restaurant, and I will definitely try it next time I'm in Munich. Service was perfect, and the wine quite OK: they normally have full bottles which was a bit too much for a lunch alone, so I was offered a Chardonnay from Southern Tirol at 13,50 EUR for a pichet instead. A very enjoyable experience.
