The bakery is one of only two in the village, and has friendly staff who are more than happy to chat the basics with the English holidaymakers who frequent the area! Bread is, like most in france, made with plain flour and likely to go hard overnight, so a visit first thing in the morning is a must. Bruno's opens at 6am and closes around 10am when all the days bread has gone! Closed on Sundays. The Pain aux raisin is especially recommended!

We had a "formule" lunch at this place which included sandwich or salad, drink, and pastry of choice. We returned the next morning for to-go order of croissants and espresso before our tour and we returned a third time for sandwiches. Always delicious. Even though our knowledge of French language is close to zero, the owners and staff were very patient to help us with our orders.

Then, spending most of our time in the historic district, we didn't realize what we had passed until a couple days later when we caught a train to nearby Ambois. We sheepishly tucked in for a bite once we saw how delightful all the baked goods looked (we had JUST finished breakfast and certainly didn't need more...). Absolutely exquisite! The coffee - and especially the hot chocolate - are also wonderful. We're back today and wish we had know of this place earlier; definitely the best breakfast spot in town. Well worth the short walk up from the historic district!
