As a current employee of WMS, I feel compelled to write in defence of a previous review that was…read morewritten quite clearly from anger.
Since I joined WMS almost 4 years ago, my relationship with Miss Sylvia has always been positive. From the day I joined as a new, foreign teacher, her and her husband Mr Chuck have done everything they can to make me feel welcome and at home, not only in school, but in Poland generally.
Miss Sylvia is someone who I feel able to go to with any issue I may have; whether it is school, or personal related - her office is always open, for all members of staff.
From the time I have worked here, I have never experienced the mistreatment that has been discussed. We all know that as teachers, when we go into such a job, which is more of a vocation, we do so for the love of education and children. We do work hard, just as every, single teacher around the world does (Miss Sylvia included!). Any teacher who goes into a job and expects that it will be easy, is clearly misguided - this is reality, not slavery.
Since being here, I have been given the opportunity to study for a certificate in Montessori - all teachers are offered the opportunity to attend courses, and further their education, and attend prestigious workshops and seminars. We get the change to travel to such workshops: Prague, Norway, Spain, to name but a few. The training offered ensures that the children are - contrary to the previous review getting the education they deserve, and teachers are being offered courses, which are highly expensive and that can further their careers. Teachers are also offered competitive salaries and other benefits based on individual circumstances.
Children at WMS are happy children, who thrive in the environment, and quite often are heard saying how they wish they could come to school on the weekends (the ultimate compliment for teachers!). They feel love and respect from the moment they walk through the door - children are always keen to pay Miss Sylvia a visit throughout the day, and enjoy singing and playing music with Mr Chuck.
There are several teachers in the same position as me, who have held jobs at WMS for a number of years. When you have International staff, it is expected that there will be a high turnover, as these are people who enjoy travel and exploring the world - this has no correlation to treatment of staff.
Miss Sylvia shares her knowledge, wisdom and experience with us; she wants the best for the school, for the teachers and for the children. I have had a very enjoyable 4 years here, and this is mainly down to the support I receive from the management. I look forward to a future at WMS, providing I continue to work with such dedicated and caring Montessorians.
