The Old Parish Cemetery was once known as the South Parish Cemetery of Dedham. It is recorded that way in the published Dedham vital records book from its establishment in 1741. At the time, Norwood was a homogeneous settlement of white, Angle-Saxon, primarily Congregationalist families. The Old Parish cemetery was situated on a steep, uninhabitable 3/4 acre piece of land called Sandy Hill in the northern part of the settlement.
It should be noted that the cemetery is fenced and locked. You have to reach out to the town to get it unlocked before photographing. I lucked out when I arrived as there was a grounds crew mowing and trimming the glass.
One white stone marker I noticed was George W. Johnson, born March 1802 in Sharon and died November 1874 at age 72.
Most of the stones are in very good condition and the cemetery is well maintained. I don't have a suggestion for legal parking - perhaps the entrance off Washington.
