I joined this gym shortly after it opened and have to say it is the best gym ever, if you are into your fitness and weight training, stop reading this and go and join up. But if you would like more information see below:-
Equipment: Top-notch stuff, hammer strength plate loaded machines as well as the more regular machines you are used to seeing. There are specialised machines for every body part, which is excellent if you are into your bodybuilding. Lots of free weights and dumbbells that go up to about 50kg (110lbs) if memory serves me correct. There are also cardio machines (bikes, rowers, treadmills, x-trainers) to help burn the belly.
Cost: Good value, no direct debit or contacts, either PAYGO or sign up from anything from 1 month to a year. Obviously, the longer you sign up the cheaper the price. I think if you pay up for a year it works out at something like £22 anytime, which is a bargain compared to the major chains who will want an arm as well as a leg. For a month I think it is £35 anytime, off peak £25, student £20.
Boxing: I am not really into boxing so I cannot comment too much but it all looks good; there is a ring, cage and loads of different size/weight punch/kick bags, more than enough to take your stress out on.
Changing Area: Always spotless with individual shower cubicles. If the showers break, they are fixed quickly unlike some gyms where I had the misfortune to join in the past. There are no lockers but you can leave keys/wallets behind the bar.
Food: Gym serves food, proper bodybuilding food, lots of chicken and tuna dishes, costs about £5 which is good value. Also, can have freshly made protein shakes for something like £1.50, and it's not Holland and Barratt shake but a decent brand.
Staff: Nice staff who will make you very tasty food. Happy to help if you need a spot or advice and do not try to charge you for it unlike some of the more established gyms like Fitness First etc.
Overall, this is a good gym, the type of people who go there, do to train, not to muck about, which is rather inspiring, and makes you try that little bit harder, which I think is a good thing. A lot of the lads are massive so it can be intimidating if you are not used to training but they were small once, besides, everyone is really friendly and are very approachable if you need a spot or advice. It does get busy in the evening but all gyms do.
The only negative point is that sometimes the music is so loud you have to shout to make yourself heard. I know it is a gym and music will be played but sometimes if I close my eyes, I think I am in Dukes (a night club). Lastly, I wish it opened earlier so I could go before work but that is just my preference. I hope that the owners will open up some more gyms and sort out the major chains and put them out of business. Take note Mr Bannatyne and Mr Branson this is a proper gym. read more
