I've seen some events at this entrance. Live bluegrass band. Halloween events. Santa Clause was in the caboose taking Christmas gift requests from the kids one year. You can walk to the downtown area and shop/eat. The Greenway itself is a bit historical. Information on site. The paved path stretches across Rte 29 via walking overpass and circles around for return trip the way you came. * When passing Taylor Elementary School you'll see a stop light. That's another entrance to the Greenway. Good for all types of exercise. Good place for kids to learn how to ride a bike or skate. Generally quiet area. Very shady. I like it.

I was driving down the interstate and all of a sudden I see this massive structure. I knew it was…read morehistoric. I flew on by realizing it would be painful trying to get there when I was on the same side as it was on my way to Shenandoah. On my way back, I managed to figure out what this place was. It was an old 5 story stacked stone structure built in 1742 that had survived several wars and milled food through all of them. in 1998, it was victimized by arson. The roof is gone, and the building has remanence from the fire. Currently, the mill is blocked off from being accessed. According to their website, they are making updates to the road. I accessed it by the railroad that runs behind the building, but as mentioned, the fence does prevent from access. It was really neat to see and I really wish it wasn't blocked off so I could get closer. It's definitely worth a stop if you're in Broad Run and into history.

The post-Civil War residence of Confederate Colonel John Mosby, leader of "Mosby Raiders", has been…read moreclosed since November 2014. According to the Warrenton tourism office, the foundation running it apparently ran out of money, and there is no information regarding what is going to happen next. It's a shame, because it's a neat piece of history in the middle of a quaint historical town. All you can do (for now) is look at the house from the outside. But for those who need their Mosby "fix", his grave is in the Warrenton Cemetery, only a few blocks away. You can find it next to the Confederate memorial.

So maybe with time we can prove we are worthy of this beautiful natural landscape.

Visiting on a Thursday afternoon in October, a kind man named Fred took my ticket ($5) and gave me a brief history of the building and museum before letting me explore on my own. Here's my experience: 1) Exhibits: Located on two floors in two different historic buildings, the exhibits are small, but mighty. They come with a wide range of historic artifacts, signs that tell their stories, and a range of perspectives from what it was like for women and those enslaved while at the jail house. They also talk about mental illness and the jail house. It's inclusive, which I appreciate. 2) Store: It's well stocked with books, cards, and trinkets. 3) Parking: There's street parking easy to find nearby.

I actually thought it was at the community center by Taylor MS. It's on Calhoun St right off main street downtown and beside the Mosby House. It's in a funky little spot, so off the beaten path. I walked in and announced I was here for recycling bags. The gentleman hosting the center was so nice. He asked my address and for my ID. He handed to two huge rolls of trash bags and a roll of recycling bags for free! He said these are available every year. For free! I was so happy! We talked a bit and I walked around inside the tiny center picking out pamphlets. Outside in the back they have quite a few picnic tables. They could use some outdoor landscaping and decor in places but I was happy to find this spot. Pretty neat.
