    Beautiful place!
    Alynne D.

This is by far one of my favorite wineries, the food was amazing and the views are spectacular. I love that they have a hotel and a pool even better! I highly recommend this place for any occasion.

I hosted my wedding at Ojo Azul last week. To start Raul & Evelyn from day 1 were unbelievably amazing to work with. They helped me coordinate all the vendors, contracts, fees in Spanish. I do not even speak Spanish and they made, what would have been super stressful process an amazing one. They helped me for months. They always got back to me in a timely mannor. They made suggestions that worked out better than I would have planned. Always happy, helpful, positive and easy to deal with. They understood the complexity that I had with bringing in guests from all over. In terms of the actual event and location. The food was amazing. The staff even better. Beautiful stunning location for weddings or events. Every single one of my guests had the best time and have nothing but good things to say about the resort and over all experience.

Delicious food! Beautiful atmosphere. We had multiple dishes. We got a beautiful candle and dessert for birthday! Wonderful service.

Amazing location Servers were very attentive the food was amazing Great live music. This location also has a hotel. If you take a trip to Valley de Guadalupe Ensenada I recommend this location.

    10 year anniversary dinner

For anybody that is planning a wedding or an event this is the place to do it at. My husband and I had three events here at Ojo Azul Resort. We had our 10 year anniversary dinner, Barbeque by the pool, and a brunch buffet style at the new glam room they built on property for all the girls to get ready in. This was all possible by the event team on property who are Raul Moreno and Evelin Reyna. They were hands down the best team to work with, they listened to the ideas I had and what I envisioned for all three events. This team was able to get the decoration I wanted and also provide the connections for music. I can truly say that this team will get it done and will make any event magical. Thank you Raul and Evelin, please know I will be back for future events. Also the staff on property, they will go above and beyond for you. Karina was the person that was taking care of all of our reservations for all our family and friends and made sure all my guests were able to stay on property. (THANK YOU KARINA) The restaurant staff at Almatierra who are Thomas, Xochi, Salvador, Pablo and anybody that went above to help on these events I want to Thank you. My family is impressed with the service and with the hospitality you have provided for us over the course of our stay. This review was honestly to say Thank you for making these days actually fun and stress free. I believe this place deserves to be recognized because it has such great top service and a dream team that LISTENS to your ideas in making a special time beautiful. Thank you Ojo Azul Resort and Almatierra Team Also The band on property we were able to hire them to stay longer for our anniversary dinner .....Please check them out. Also if you need anybody to travel to do makeup and hair @makeupbysandrah -Sandra Hernandez and @hairbyelenn -Elenn were amazing @josuemichelphotography- Josue Michel -look at how amazing his work is.

Spent our anniversary here and spent the night on our first time to Valle.. food was amazing, everyone working there was friendly and hustled, wine tasting was a bit different than normal in Temecula and it was all explained in detail about the joys and tastes in a wine. It's a must if visiting here. Always great to stay where you are drinking especially when the rooms and scenery is so nice. Well worth the money.

    Complimentary "continental" breakfast

Beautiful property and amazing pool. Room was very spacious and clean. Even though the complimentary breakfast was delicious...I don't think this would count as "continental". Other than that the stay was very enjoyable. Would stay here again.

Great ambiance, food, and place. We spent a weekend at Ojo Azul to celebrate our friend birthday. We had breakfast and dinners on site. The service was amazing, and the food good. We will definitely be back!

Taking a trip to Ensénada to have a modified bachelor party.... Family Edition, we decided to check out Ojo Azul and do a little wine tasting. Our Sommelier took extra care of us, explaining the originals of the wine, what they are composed of and how they pair perfectly with certain foods and jams. The property itself is very beautiful and artful and welcoming to all those interested in wine tasting or simply taking pics of the various art pieces. I will definitely come back next time I'm in Mexico.

I loved it here. Beautiful pool, awesome breakfast and friendly staff. I could stay a week. Got a massagethat was to die for. Definitely returning soon.

We only stopped by to have some drinks! I tried the tamarindo and the mango margaritas. They were so good but my favorite was the tamarindo one. We also ordered some flan, it wasn't my favorite but I liked that it had caramel flavored popcorn on the top. The whole resort is very beautiful, and they offer a lot of amenities/activities. They had live music playing when we showed up, which I liked. The pool area was beautiful too. I would want to stay here the next time I visited.

    Majoring flooding surrounding the property.
    Dulcinea G.

I recommend you not stay here as they have unethical business practices. We arrived during a storm, and our room nearly flooded. The property was severely flooded in many areas, including a large pond at the entrance to the parking lot. While I don't blame them for the situation, I hold them responsible for offering a safe space. We unequivocally felt unsafe and decided to leave a night early from our reservation. After five attempts to resolve this through Hotels.com and an unanswered email to the hotel directly, we received word from Hotels.com that the hotel was holding firm to their "cancellation policy" and chose to fleece us instead of doing what was fair. A deeply disappointing experience I wouldn't wish on anyone.

This spot was a great find. I wasn't familiar with the area and booked it on photos. It was the perfect ambiance for a couple or to hangout with friends. They had a pool and a great atmosphere. Very quiet but a close drive to some of the hottest wineries in town. We didn't eat at the restaurant because we didn't have reservations. I recommend Decantos Winery nearby.

The service was perfect, everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. And not all the staff can speak perfect English, but it was easy to communicate with everyone, and I cannot express just how friendly every staff member was. This hotel had everything we needed. There are two restaurants on site, one that is open for breakfast/lunch, and closes around 5pm and another that is open for dinner and opens around 5-6pm. The dinner restaurant on site Aledano, is newer and the Chef is incredible, he came to speak with us and make recommendations and when I told him I was vegetarian he prepared the Orzo dish without meat and honestly, it was one of the best things I've ever tasted. There is also a beautiful winery on site with wonderful wine. Everything about this hotel is perfect. I would recommend it more for couples given how romantic is can be but would be great alone or with friends as well! I cannot wait to go back and visit!

The good: They offer most things a hotel/resort would, excellent dining, scenic views, valet transport, clean spaces. The bad: The terrain to drive and walk on is rough. To go to the pool/restaurant you will have a short walk through a dirt path which is not terrible but can be freezing in the evening. The only comfortable furniture in the loft will be the bed, otherwise everything else will be industrial wood and cast iron furniture. The shuttle drivers are the only reason they are not getting less of a rating. They were polite, helpful and timely. The front office staff, though nice, were not willing to help with much else. Overall, This is a stunning location for a short stay. Loved soaking in the sunset sitting next to a fire with a glass of cabernet. For the price, I truly believe it could be better! A full length mirror, comfortable seating in the rooms (the poolside furniture is great), better barking set up because its an unpaved rough ascent to the parking area. On my next trip to Valle, I would look for something with more of a homey/hotel feel as Encuentro is more of an experience.

It's an open road and you will only feel comfortable if you are driving a truck or go 2 miles an hour. Secondly, our room wasn't ready until 3:45pm, the room was nice, but it wasn't cleaned properly. The floor was dusty and there were pieces of food next to the bed. The night tables were also dusty and the sink in the bathroom looked dirty. They advertise a rain shower head, but there's just water going everywhere at changing pressure, it's a nightmare if you are trying to wash your hair! Their spa closes at 3:30pm, so treatments are only available in the morning. Their pool is not heated and in order to access the jacuzzi, you have to pay a day pass at the spa ($80 per person). The complimentary breakfast they offer is just coffee, fruit and small muffin or brownie, but the menu they have is pretty good. We had the fit omelette, the brioche bread and the huarache and it was all very tasty. The one positive thing about this place is their restaurant "fuego". We ate there twice and loooooved their food. I wouldn't really recommend this property unless you have someone else driving you around. After doing more research, we realized there are wayyyy better properties, and this one is not worth the $200 a night.

We closed the door to bathroom and still could smell it. Fortunately we had busy days and only slept in the room. Shower towels are old and stale. The room was also very nice overall. However, there were some serious downsides. The shower floor was broken, and I actually slipped and fell because of it, which is a safety issue that shouldn't be overlooked. Another big problem was the lack of food options. We arrived at 5pm and there were no restaurants open. The staff were in a hurry to leave. Unfortunately, leaving wasn't really an option because the road conditions were extremely bad. Our car barely made it through the muddy terrain. Communication was also lacking. They only sent a WhatsApp message about road directions, and it wasn't very helpful. We ended up relying on another couple who had attempted the drive and turned back--we followed them, and even then, the road was very difficult to navigate. Service was minimal as well. The only staff member available was the watchman, and even simple requests (like a wine opener) took a long time. If you decide to stay here, come prepared: bring your own food and make sure you have a 4x4 vehicle. The setting is beautiful, but the logistics and safety concerns make it hard to fully enjoy the experience.

But over the last two decades they have made large strides in quality with new modernization techniques. Besides all of the wine makers that have been here for generations, others (Spain, France, and Italy) from around the world have joined in wine making in the area. The area has all of the basic ingredients (proper climate and soil) needed to make great wine. The area sits in the same latitude as the great wine making areas of the Mediterranean. As a result, now I am a big fan of the area's wine. Now many compare the area to Tuscany Italia before the big tourist rush occurred. The greater area is also home to many Michelin rated restaurants with a great ocean/farm to table menu (carta). Organic and sustainability are fully represented in restaurants as well. If you love seafood, then this place is heaven because of the abundance of fresh seafood from both the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific. I predict that once the new airport in Ensenada is built then this place is going to explode with tourism. Currently, having to fly into Tijuana then take a bus or private transport has been the only way to reach this area from most places in the US with the exception of southern California. People in southern California are lucky enough to drive down for a weekend because it's just that close to them. It's the equivalent of people from Chicago spending a weekend in wine country in Michigan, Indiana, or Wisconsin. In all honesty there is no comparison because most wine in the Midwest is mediocre at best. The problem in the Midwest is the climate extremes which are not suitable to most popular wine varietals. Even when I do find wine from the Midwest that I like, it usually has at least $50-$60 price tag. At a typical grocery store in Spain or Portugal very good bottle of wine is sometimes cheaper than a bottle of water! Under $10 a bottle pricing gets you very good wine, above that you can have even better quality. The winery is beautiful even in the winter. I like to visit in the winter because although it's not super warm here, I go from wearing a winter jacket to wearing a light jacket or sweater. The nights can drop into the 40s which is still much better than a winter polar vortex back home. There is a lot less people, therefore, I can also get into the best restaurants in the area. My rental flat had absolutely no neighbors until the last day when it was time to leave. The isolation was very nice because the grounds are beautiful and very full of life. A huge assortment of birds make this their winter getaway from the harsh winters up north. Citrus fruit was in season down here and the neighboring property had an orchard of trees filled with oranges. The property has a few nice pathways to walk after mealtimes. I also enjoyed the outdoor wine tour which explores the different varietals fields with an enthusiastic guide that was quick witted with jokes. The wine pourings that accommodate the tour were delicious and wisely chosen. I also opted to take the wine cave tour right after the outside tour. How was the cave tour? It was disappointing and frustrating. First of all, as I patiently waited to be taken down to the cave from their gift shop area they forgot about me. They have a list of who is supposed to go down and yet they still went down without everyone?!? Finally a cashier notices that I'm just walking around not shopping and asked me if I was waiting for someone. I told him that I was waiting for the cave tour to begin. He got a hold of the tour guide who had already gone down with some of the group and he came up to retrieve us. Those that were already in the cave, already had been served food that was optional to order with the tasting. After several pourings in the previous tour, yes, I was ready to have some food to lessen the impact of more pourings. Also, they had a nice selection of items that would complement the pourings. Somehow, they forgot about me again, and I noticed others were getting a different presentation than I was on the same tour. Okay, now a sense of frustration is overcoming me and I mention the oversights to the guide. He lied to me and told me that the others had a different level of wine tasting. This disorganized tour was also set up backwards because there should have been a walking tour of the fermentation area first then tastings afterwards. Besides the bad cave tour that I definitely don't recommend. Everything else was great with the exception of the cold washroom on cold nights. They have very nice employees, beautiful grounds, very good breakfast, and a great dinner restaurant called Latitude on the property. Would I come back? Yes, because besides a few frustrating moments the rest was great.

About an hour and a half drive from the US/Mexico border stands El Cielo ready to welcome you into their quiet neighborhood surrounded by lush lands and hills often grazed by their many cattle and other livestock. Within the vicinity, you'll find little, but a few high end eateries exist. The dirt paths are roads less travelled, however, you're not too far from the port city of Ensenada. As you drive into the long entrance to the main lobby, you'll notice the openness of it all. The horizon is just barely obstructed and the land is extremely flat with the exception of the hills nearby. The property has a lake and serves as a beautiful and serene place to take a walk. In the evenings, the stars are extremely clear and bright against the pitch dark sky. Bask in the tranquility as the only sounds you'll hear are the occasional croaks from the native frogs or chirps of crickets and whistling night breeze. If you came during the day, however, and haven't melted already, the first step out will be a shocker due to the immense heat you'll feel being just a smidge closer to the equator. The staff greeted us with some cold glasses of refreshing white wines as we checked in. Upon getting our suite and room keys, they offered to shuttle us to our rooms but if you drove in yourself, feel free to drive on over and park in the driveway. For those with electric vehicles, they do have charging available right outside each suite. The rooms are spacious, well ventilated and adequately illuminated. The beds are soft and the mattress and pillows are super comfortable. The bathrooms are clean and modern; water pressure is good. Amenities were appreciated - bottles of drinking water (was told to refrain from consuming water from tap in Mexico so this was a big plus), clean towels, hygiene and supplemental kits were available, and mirrors were abundant (long, standard, and close up). Each room also comes with a TV and localized air conditioning and fan unit, giving full control over room climate. There's also a balcony but it was much too hot to be out during the day. The evenings were cool and provided a nice place to sit back and enjoy the stars. There's a shared outdoor pool, a gymnasium and a chapel house. I only got to use the pool and it was relatively clean aside from the occasional bug that might have fallen in. There were towels and chairs for patrons to use. The lake was a nice stroll but it's not too big and much of the path is fully exposed to the sun. Breakfast occurs between 8-9:30 am at the main building on the second floor. They'll check you in at the front desk for your name and room number and you'll have the option to sit indoors in the dark but elegant dining room or outdoors on the patio. The food is self service and included a variety of options including eggs, beans, meats, dairy, nuts and fruits. They also have a dessert section where I got to try a chia seed parfait with fresh berries. Orange juice and coffee are also served with your meal. The service is phenomenal here. The staff are friendly and very welcoming. For non-Spanish speakers, it wasn't too difficult to communicate our needs. Overall, El Cielo is a great vacation spot to disconnect from all your worries and engage in the present. There's not a whole lot to do here specifically, but the downtime offers room to connect with your loved ones. With its proximity to other hot spots and eateries, El Cielo proved to be a humble and comfortable rest spot in between the tourist attractions, explorations, and wine and dining. If you're looking for a place that has nearly everything taken care of for you to enjoy a stress free vacation, El Cielo has you covered. You just need to make your way down here!
