How exciting to see a new Vietnamese business open up in this area! I often visit San Diego and am always looking for some yummy Vietnamese coffee and drinks. The interior was very cute and aesthetic. There are some tables and chairs around to chill or study. We ordered the pandan matcha, Ube matcha, and mango matcha. It a while for the drinks to come out and when it did, the worker just plopped the drinks onto the counter next to us. We were very confused and asked if it was ours. They said yes, but we saw that one of the drinks was pink and asked what it was. They said it was the strawberry one and we told them we didn't order that. They tried to argue with us and said yes, it is. I had to show them my receipt for them to do a double take. Another worker came by and helped them out but, what an odd experience. During this day, we saw on Instagram that they were giving out free chè. The person that took our order and plopped down our drink didn't give us any. I saw a new cashier give it to people after us and asked for some. Not sure what happened with that one worker but wasn't the best experience for us. I was really hoping the drinks would make up for the service but it was just okay to me. The flavoring for both the pandan and Ube didn't really taste like pandan or Ube. My review is based solely off of the bbq pork bahn bi sandwich I had today. The service was good, friendly staff, place was small but cute. But this sandwich...I was sadly disappointed. I love me a good bahn mi. This was probably my least favorite I have ever had. Where to begin? The bread was so crunchy that it hurt the roof of my mouth, it was painful to eat. The carrots had this extreme vinegar flavor, overpowering everything. The bbq pork had no flavor, very hard to chew as if it was old, and also had so many inedible fat pieces that I had to spit out. And there was basically a half of a cucumber placed inside. The portion was large but the flavors and quality was a miss for me. Sorry guys, I really wanted to like this place. Got the strawberry matcha and the pork belly banh mi and they were definitely on the pricier side. The strawberry matcha was good but automatically came with the foam, which I didn't like. It was too sweet and tasted like an artificial strawberry milk shake. Other than that, the matcha quality and purée were good and I will skip the foam next time. The pork belly banh mi was okay. My first time trying in the area, my boyfriend and i loved it! So much so he went back for another matcha! The staff was so friendly and gave us their favorites on the menu. Wow, what an amazing addition to the north county food scene! We tried the crispy pork belly and the pepper beef and both are so juicy and flavorful. The ham strips are my favorite part and the pate is creamy and luscious. The portions are huge! A sandwich is enough for two meals. I also tried the coconut sugarcane juice and it was so so good and sweet and tropical. The taro tea was also yummy. We got the pandan banana pudding and it was loaded with bananas and cookies. Everything is so so good. My only suggestion would be to offer some side items with the sandwiches. Even just some chips or a bowl of delicious steamed rice. They practically give you a whole cucumber in your sandwich and a thick green jalapeño. The bread was overly toasted and irritated the roof of my mouth. Pork Belly was extremely fatty. So, I'm back LOL. I noticed the cups were the same as shown on the menu which was a very pleasant change. I'd say this change has made the ranking of this shop in my list go from a "in the area" shop to a destination shop (will go out of the way to grab some because the drinks are worth it). I'm so glad an egg cream coffee place opened up, a good one, the Viet coffee is strong and it's an actual drink and not like a dessert drink. It's a bit pricey compared to my favorite one in Mira Mesa, but it's the only good one in town, and they open early. I've tried their matcha with ube foam, it's good but I'm just not a matcha person. Wish they had regular milk tea. I could use a good milk tea. It's a perfect stop for us to come by and grab some coffee before heading to the zoo. We also got a banh mi, the bbq pork (char siu style). I've also tried the pork belly and beef. The beef had a great peppery taste. I like! And The pork belly is amazing! So good. The banh mi is large and they are pretty generous with the portion, unlike other banh mi places in San Marcos. I'm a fan and hopefully they last. This location has been 2 other food joints. Went around 11:30am on a Monday and it was empty. Cafe was nice and clean and the staff was super friendly. We ordered two drinks and two Banh Mi's. Both drinks came out within 10mins and food within 15mins. She actually made the coffee fresh, which is bold because if you know how to make Vietnamese coffee, you know it takes time. At restaurants they will either have you make it at your table or pre-make it and just serve it upon ordering. So it was nice that they take the time to actually make it fresh. I did wish it would be a bit more strong and Vietnamese coffee is best for their strong flavor. The banana cream was really good with the appropriate amount of banana flavor and sweetness. Not too much of that fake banana flavor like some other places. Banh Mi came in their freshly made crispy and soft baguette with a lot of vegetables, pate and your choice of protein. All Banh mi's come with Pate, egg sauce, carrot, daikon pickles, cilantro, cucumber, and jalapeño. So if there's anything you don't like, make sure to tell them when you order. Loved their meat seasonings and the fresh taste of the vegetables. The beef didn't have such a strong garlic flavor incase you are worried. I tried it and it tasted rich and flavorful. The Thai tea was pretty good too; it would taste even better if it was less sweet. There wasn't boba so we didn't add any toppings. The sandwich was packed. Meat would fall out every time we took a bite. We would dip the meat into the sauce that they gave us. The lemongrass chicken banh mi had a strong ginger, lemon, peppery taste. It's a bit too salty for me as well. However, the ingredients were fresh so I was still satisfied with the meal. While the drinks are still good, a solid beverage menu isn't enough on its own to sustain a business like this. Food options are about 6 right now, I'm hoping they expand and add the dac diet. Service is pretty quick, even though it's only one person I assume it will pick up once more business starts coming. Coffee was very light and not super bitter like other Vietnamese coffee, it was really good after I mixed the salt cream into the coffee but I think it's missing something, or maybe I'm just to use to too bitter coffee and it's just right . I'll review my banh mi after I try it, for now 5 stars for what I've seen #ohmypatecafe So got to try my banh mi, I gave it a 3 out of 5, two small things they can easily fix, the sandwich didn't come cut in half, so it was one giant piece, and the bread and meat wasn't warmed up as much as I think it could of been, so the bread was a little soggy. The date is 07/15/25, Tuesday afternoon at around 15:30. The night before I saw the picture of a Crispy Pork Banh Mi from "Oh My Pate Cafe" (Cafe) that beckoned me to come and see what this sandwich is all about. So today, I created the opportunity to make this quest for this ban mi sandwich a check off my foodie journey. The new sign for the restaurant is going to be installed tomorrow so I was disappointed to not find the Cafe on the first pass. However, checking the Yelp listing and confirming the address, I indeed found the Cafe, albeit under the previous restaurant name. I was greeted by an enthusiastic and welcoming young man who had a grin from ear to ear. Later, a young woman came out and flashed a big smile and two thumbs up like the Fonz!!! I asked if this is the Cafe on Yelp. Yes! I was in the correct Cafe! So, I ordered the Crispy Pork Belly, BBQ Pork and 100% Sugarcane drink. So, it turns out that the young woman (based on the Yelp listing) is the new proprietor of the Cafe. The young woman made the sandwiches, while the young man made the 100% Sugarcane drink. Order came out in 15 minutes, probably still getting used the restaurant. They both profusely thanked me and I had my order and was anxious to try my Banh Mi (my daughter who was on her way to a friend's house, stopped by and took the BBQ Pork Banh Mi). My daughter liked the 100% Sugarcane Drink after taking a sip. Got home and had my wife try the 100% Sugarcane Drink and after taking a sip, she said it was sweet. However, I loved it. Very refreshing and no sugar added. Now, for the piecé dé resistancé, from the initial impression, it looked like any Banh Mi. The French roll looked great, the pickled carrots and radish and the crispy pork roll looked amply placed. And covered with cilantro. So, now the taste. WOW!!! The bread was crispy on the outside and soft inside. And the first bite, I got a crispy skin and that was crunchy and flavorful and the pork was tender. The fresh jalapeños were sweet and crisp. And there was a smear of pâté that added another depth of umami that was savory with every bite. Overall, a delicious and tasty Crispy Pork Banh Mi deserving of 5 stars in my book!!! My wife also stated that she was truly impressed and thoroughly enjoying the Banh Mi sáns cilantro. We usually go to Mira Mesa when we have a craving for Banh Mi. But now we have found a place worthy of being called our Banh Mi restaurant close to home. Prices are reasonable. The girls working we very sweet. The place is small and clean. Most of the midday Saturday patrons while I was there were enjoying beverages. I was picking up a few banh mi while the wifey was at the dogs at the nearby Hollandia park. We tired 3 of their banh mi: lemongrass chicken, bbq pork and garlic beef. My favorite part of all them was the crunch outside while still soft inside bread. Beware all of them came with some thick slices of jalapeños. I've waited a long time to write this review because I wanted to visit multiple times to try different things before giving my input. I came to try this spot out when it was super new and had only been open about a month. I could tell that the owner was putting her heart and soul into her food and drinks. Since I first came in, their menu has greatly expanded and menu items come and go with the season changes which is cool. Their social media presence made them blow up! One time my boyfriend came in for a banh mi and she had sold out even before closing time. For me, no matter how hyped up places get, I still want to give my honest opinion. When I first tried a sandwich, I couldn't even finish half of it... I learned very quickly that I am not a fan of PAŤE whatsoever. Luckily for me, my boyfriend liked it so my food didn't go to waste. They also put some kind of squishy/spongy meat pieces inside the sandwiches. Not sure what they are but since then I've also asked for my sandwiches without that. The sandwiches are a great bang for your buck, they're huge and very filling. My issue with them is that although the bread is made fresh and delicious, the sandwich itself doesn't really have that much flavor. I've tried the egg sandwich, the chicken, and the beef so I can say the same for all of them. I'm a banh mi connoisseur... I drive ALL OVER San Diego and North County to try new places just for the banh mi's. I think for me, it's the missing garlic spread that a lot of places put in their sandwiches that makes all the difference. I've read the owner responses to other yelp reviews who mention similar things, and she says that it's her spin on the kind of sandwiches she's grown up with vs the more authentic Vietnamese sandwich you'd get from other places so that's fair. At one time, mango sticky rice was on the menu and it was soooo good, we came in a few times just for that - but it has since been taken off the menu. Now on to the drinks... they are GOOOOD. I've had the Vietnamese iced coffee, biscoff seasonal iced coffee (my FAVORITE), the pandan matcha, and today the drinks specials for March which is a guava iced green tea. The guava green tea I tried today was SOOOOO GOOD. What kind of makes me sad is the pricing. I paid $8.65 for the large size with no added toppings. That's pretty steep pricing for an iced tea.... If the drinks were a little more affordable I would probably be in there more times throughout the week. I just can't justify spending $9 on a drink every time I come in. As far as service goes, the girls and the owner have always been very nice and welcoming any time I've visited. I definitely will continue to keep coming in for drinks but for the sandwiches, I personally prefer other spots in the area.
