Ogmore Castle is a beautiful ruin which belongs to CADW who care for Welsh Historic Monuments. The castle is situated at the south bank of the Ewenny estuary, very close to Ogmore By Sea and the excellent beach.
The castle is free to enter and you can spend as much time as you want in the grounds. The ruins are substantial and acts as a local landmark and sight
Ogmore Castle was built by the Normans as part of their Welsh invasion. Coity Castle and Newcastle, Bridgend were also built by the Normans at the same time
You can cross a fun set of stepping stones across the river near the castle to reach the village of Merthyr Mawr. Unfortunately there is sometimes a bad smell in the area because of the close proximity of a water treatment plan.
There is a tearoom and a great pub in close proximity to the castle.
With care you can swim in the river in the summer, and without care you might end up taking an unwelcome dip if you slip on the stepping stones! read more
