A child who wants to go to this school must live in the catchment area and be in a Catholic feeder school. There are 7 or 8 feeder schools and children automaticall get aplace ifthey attend one. The school is in a rural setting and feels like a small country school.

I think it caters for children of a wide variety of interests - this is not a criticism - it is a strength. The staff are fantastic and there is lots going on in sport, music, dance drama and lots of other activities. Parents should not be surprised that Religious Education is on the curriculum. The clue is in "Roman Catholic High School"!!! It is not a good school - it is an outstanding school, which is what the last Ofsted report says.

The food is excellent, and is frequently featured on news programmes/teachers tv. The teachers are all fab,very friendly and they all want to help your child achieve the best I can. The headteacher was given an OBE and also recieved the Ted Wragg Lifetime Achievement Award, both due to the outstanding effect he has had on the school. There are a great choice of school trips, many of which are foreign exchanges, including a 7 week one to Melbourne, Australia in Yr 9! If you are in the North Yorkshire Area and are unsure where to send your child for secondary school, this is the place!

Xaverian College...what a fantastic place…read more This is where I actually became who I am today. I know that sounds silly but this college is fantastic. I learnt more here in two years than I did in five years at high school. The teachers here really bring you out of yourself, they actually care about the students, not just about the grades. I'm still in touch with most of my tutors now, they care what I've been up to since I left and always get in touch to congratulate me on anything I achieve. The range of subjects is vast and the campus keeps getting bigger and better. It's much different to most other colleges as the buildings are spread right out although not too far so you can still walk to all of them comfortably. It's so different to school, everyone is treated as an adult and it was such a good grounding before university, I don't think I'd have been half as prepared for uni if it wasn't for Xaverian.

During my time there, I literally studied till I dropped! By word of mouth, I heard that I was attending one of the top Schools in Liverpool, so I had to brace myself for the amount of home work and extra activities I was involved in. This did put me under a lot of pressure as stress levels were inevitibly high during those years. However, if it had not been for St. Eddie's (as some call it), I would probably not have achieved my full potential. The School is located in quite a peaceful surrounding and when you enter the site, it has this classic School look about it with long corridors, a huge playing field and even a swimming pool (which was a bonus). The 6th Form building is pleasantly decorated in a building of heritage that the School has preserved. Its interior walls are painted in lovely pink too! Each classroom in the Upper School fits an average of 20 pupils and they have a wide range of facilites to benefit from, throughout the institution. There are also a couple of common rooms where you can eat and chat to friends in a controlled environment. If you are a parent and have a child or you are of the post-16 criteria, look no further than St. Edward's College.

Bemrose unfortunately still has the bad reputation hanging over it's head gained from the 80s/90s…read more Yes in the late 90s they did go into special measures and no one wanted to send their children there. However the new head Jo Ward totally turned the school around. By the time my daughter started there they were on the up. Going into school now is a delight. They have a great ethos and a good learning environment. The atmosphere is always positive and I think the up-turn in results reflect that. They have become well-known in the last 5 years for the fantastic Steel band which spends a lot of time out and about in the community playing gigs for organisations and other schools. This last year they put on their first school production for 16 years which was their own interpretation of Grease and was fabulous. They have a great performing arts department which means the next few years could be very exciting They are hoping to change status to a foundation school in the next couple of years too which will send them from strength to strength. It is proud to be a comprehensive but still strives to maximise the academic ability of the children who go there, and is very successful in helping kids of all abilities to achieve their potential. Children have the opportunity to undertake a range of school trips (my daughter will be visiting New York in February!) and activities, including visiting the battlefields in France, as well as taking languages as diverse as Latin, French, German, Spanish and Mandarin. The school is proud to encourage children with artistic ability and produces a school play every year which is of high quality. There is a new astroturf, refectory and science labs, and building is under way to replace the mobiles with a new block for English classes. It is a very good school and my kids have flourished there.
