The whole tour lasts between 60-90 minutes depending on how many are on the tour and if lots of people ask questions. (You can ask questions whenever you want.) The tour started out in the headquarters building where they showed us what happens in the chain of events between a person applying for a dog and the dog being trained, a brief history, costs involved, how people foster, etc. There were a couple of volunteers that were also clients who came to speak about how much their quality of life improved after getting a service dog. They had the dog with them. After that, we received a tour of that building which included a demo by one of the trainers with a service dog. The dog showed off his abilities and it was impressive. Once we finished that building, we went to 2 other buildings where veterinary care, training classes, and other events happen. We also saw outside play areas, inside play areas, and an area that had training for things specific to someone with disabilities. They had a mock-house inside so the dogs could be used to being trained in a home-like environment. There were a few cats in residence so the dogs would be used to small animals and learn not to chase them. The facility was quite clean. The staff members were super nice. The dogs we saw looked happy and healthy. I would highly recommend this free tour to anyone. (It was about a half hour from Kalamazoo!) The staff there did not push for donations and did not have a merch area to push people to buy things. There was no such thing. I saw some merch way in the back corner of a huge training building, but we didn't go anywhere near it, and nobody suggested buying it. The tours offered are simply to help awareness of the organization. You can go on this tour and be educated about service dogs but not pressed for moola.

I always remember the consolers and buss drivers drumming up the day campers on the busses singing this song on the way into camp everyday during the summers of the 1990's. I attended this camp as a child for about 3 yrs and leared so much about being outdoors in nature, arts and crafts, archery, skits and how to be a kid. I still to this day remember ALOT of the camp songs sung in the early morning hours at the chapel we sang to wake up and moving for the day. "Good Morning Mr. Zip Zip Zip" was one of those songs. I started teaching my own children these camp songs that I had so much fun singing 30 yrs ago. I remember the, "Herman the worm" song very well and started teaching my daughter, loves it. Camp O was the first place I leaned to shoot a BB Gun and as the years progressed we moved up to learning to shoot .22's, that was fun alog with many of horseback riding in the woods and around the farm across the road from the camp. During the end of the summers they did overnight trips to a Yurt on one of the local farm field across from the camp. It was great stargazing late at night around the fire and hunting for that ever elusive Snipe.lol. **Overall, I cant say its the same Camp O than that it is now, but I have TONs of great memories here as a young child. Oh, formerly lush and attended to rose garden what happened to you?…read more Not sure if this was just an off year (it's been so hot) but the garden that we used to love spending time in sniffing roses, taking photos, enjoying the sculptures, and sitting on benches watching pollinators fly around, was looking barren and dried out. Most of the formerly lush rose bushes were reduced to thin branches and the other plants and greenery like hydrangeas, ground cover, etc. were missing. It isn't a huge garden by any stretch, just a corner of a block right downtown, but it was always such a beautiful oasis amongst all the shops and bustling tourists walking around. Located right across from Kilwins we also loved getting an ice cream cone and sitting in the flowers with our cones. I do hope this was just an anomaly of a year due to weather and they didn't have to cut the city resources allocated to care for it. It would be a shame if this was the permanent look of the garden from now on.

They're always communicative with any behavior issues that pop up and eager to collaborate with me to find the best way to address them. I have always felt that they genuinely care for my kids and both of my kids love it there. I also love their summer program, they find creative ways to keep the kids busy with field trips and STEM projects. Even letting the kids experiment with taking apart and rebuilding old electronics to see how they work and what else they can create with the parts. Wish I had the opportunity to do that when I was a kid!

The owner claimed that each family that joins becomes part of HER family, and she really becomes involved with each one. About a month after our children began attending Discovery Days, I began to feel just the opposite, that my son was not welcome there. My one-year-old son entered his "biting phase," and the owner and her staff had no idea how to handle it. Instead of adopting new and innovative philosophies to keep my son engaged and moving forward in his development, the owner threatened us with complete expulsion if his behavior did not improve within one week. To underscore her intentions, she sent him home for two days without prior notice, causing us to scramble for alternate care. When she met with us and devised a strategy for his return that we could all agree on, she later decided to renege on her own protocol without warning and removed us from the daycare permanently without just cause. Her explanation was that another family was threatening to approach the licensing board, and she was not interested in being investigated. Consequently, we had five days to find an alternative daycare. I now see that the owner possessed neither the knowledge nor the temperament to cultivate a positive experience for our children.

Unprofessional Communication and Severe Lack of Accountability…read more I recently withdrew my son from this facility after only eight days due to persistent communication failures, unprofessional staff behavior, and a concerning lack of leadership from management. Our issues began with inconsistent and directly contradictory updates regarding my son's transition and naptime behavior--with one teacher stating he was adjusting well while another reported severe distress. To address this, we held a formal meeting with the director and his teacher. A clear plan was established for staff to send brief daily updates regarding naptime. However, over the following week, staff completely failed to follow through on these agreed-upon updates. When I followed up in person to ask about my son's day, one teacher remarked, "Oh geez, she found us." This level of blatant disrespect toward a paying parent seeking basic communication about their child's well-being is unacceptable. When I brought this unprofessional comment and the lack of communication to the director, I was promised a follow-up call on Monday. After waiting until 4:00 PM with no contact, I had to visit the facility in person, only to be told the director was too busy to reach out. More alarming was the response to my concerns: - The director stated she could not guarantee that staff would not treat my son differently following my complaint, nor could she guarantee that moving him to another classroom would help, as teachers may have already "talked amongst themselves." - While internal disciplinary actions were mentioned, no effective solutions or assurances were provided to ensure my son's safety, emotional care, or fair treatment while remaining in a classroom with the staff member who displayed open hostility toward us, as the director also expressed concerns over teachers treating a child differently if made upset. - No explanation was ever offered for why staff failed to follow the staff-approved communication plan or why unprofessional comments were made. As a parent, my priority is ensuring my child is in a safe, transparent, and respectful environment. If a facility cannot guarantee basic equal treatment for a student or maintain professional communication with parents, they should not be trusted with child care. We could no longer in good conscience keep our child enrolled here.TL;DR : Inconsistent/Conflicting Updates, No Guarantee of Fair Treatment from teachers to kids, No Reassurance or Actionable Solutions, and Zero Accountability.
