The waitress lead us through the process of choosing our seafood, deciding the cooking process, and then sat us down. We ordered tuna tartare which was fresh, tender, and delicate. I ordered fried seafood for my main and my friend ordered mussels and a ravioli. We were seated... the restaurant was dimly lit, white table cloths dressed the tables, and restaurant felt more romantic than a friendly local hangout. La Lampara proved us wrong! We came one night for a bottle of wine and some raw seafood. First let me tell you that the service was above excellent. They gave us and incredibly good deal and two extra limone granitas for free at the end. On top of that they invited us the next day for lunch but this time for a cooked feast. Night one: Incredible raw food, so fresh some of the muscles were still moving when we squeezed the lemon on top of it. The wine was exquisite too. The limone granitas were artisan made and tasty. During out entire 1-2 hours here we heard not a word of English. It looked like a local joint with families and singles on dates well represented in the crowd. We were greeted at the door like we were long lost relatives and hustled right away to a table. We were presented with menus but before we could open them we were beckoned into the next room where all manner of fresh caught seafood was lying on ice. I assume they were telling us to pick out what we wanted to eat (some of the choices were still moving around) but as they spoke no English and I even less Italian they could have been telling us anything and I would not have had a clue. We picked out swordfish, calamari, bream and something else that looked adventurous. At each selection the animal was ceremoniously plucked off the ice and placed on a large silver platter. Once we were done we were led back to our table which had been adorned with bread and cutlery in our absence. We still had not opened a menu. We looked around and noticed nobody had menus and they simply told the waiters what they wanted and a few minutes later it magically appeared from the next room on silver platters for the diners to inspect. Once approved the sea creatures were then off to the kitchen and their fate. Needless to say it was delicious and as fresh a fish as I have ever eaten. And I have lived on the beach where seafood was there for the taking. Not only did we have our fill but it was the perfect fuel for our mile walk through the February night back to the hotel. The restaurant is situated under a pier, and the ambience makes for a very interesting dining experience, as there were local bathers swimming under the pier, and laying out on the concrete until late in the evening. The restaurant staff eventually cleared out the swimmers, and then put tables and chairs down in the space they had just occupied. Service is a bit slow, as is common in southern Italy, but the food did not disappoint, and we had the best seafood of our Puglia trip at this restaurant. Would highly recommend.

We went in May and had a reservation for one night, but one of my friends wasn't feeling great so I walked in and they were so accommodating--they let us push our reservation to the following evening. My two friends and I arrived, the hosts were so kind and welcoming. They didn't speak English, but not a problem--they were smiling and mimed to make sure my friend was feeling better, how sweet! We had a dictionary on my phone, all was well. Maria talked about the seafood, and in particular the local purple shrimp, so I wanted to try it out. When I saw shrimp on the menu, I didn't even know how it would be served or what with, but I pointed and that's what I got. I wasn't purple, so who knows if it was the local shrimp, but honestly, they were THE BEST shrimp I've ever had in my life. My friends got linguine vognole (linguine and clams) and a seared tuna (if I'm remembering correctly...) and I won the ordering contest. :) Our kind waiter brought our dishes over, he turned an espresso cup over, leaned my dish against it. The platter had the large shrimp (steamed or boiled) lined up and dusted in flakey salt. He bathed them in olive oil in front of me, flipped them over, and tah-dah. They were mine. (I wish I took a picture or video of this, but it was MEMORABLE!!!) This restaurant is a beach-y spot, but a little upscale (jeans were fine but shorts might not be), so I went to dig in with my knife and fork. The hostess noticed and ran over motioning with her hands and brought a hand wipe with her. I went for it and was so glad she gave me the o-k to peel the prawns with my hands!! The prawns were sweet, succulent, and the best I've had (and I grew up on the ocean). I absolutely loved them. We ended the meal with some granita and I was one HAPPY camper. If I were coming back I'd 100% get this dish again, or ask for a recommendation and go with it. Maybe stay away from the pasta... the seafood is too good to be mixed in with noodles. :)

The seafood here is fantastic. We had the seafood starter of mussels and oysters, mussels in a…read morewhite wine sauce, and mussels au gratin, and they were all delicious. The linguine with clams was also very tasty, as was the local white wine recommended by our waiter. The restaurant has a wonderful view of the sea and at lunchtime and dinner the place is always buzzing with customers and attentive waiters. I highly recommend.
