I had extensive work (excess of $100K spent there) on my Bonanza A36 at Tom's Aircraft, from the surface..a clean shop..dig deep..they are not a Beechcraft facility, they lack experience, I took the aircraft to Waypoint Aviation..multiple squawks are pointed out without the shop knowing "who or what" was done..these are serious "airworthy" mistakes by mechanics (Francis Salisbury) who say they know what they are doing..incorrectly assembling the landing gear, incorrect rigging, bolts installed backwards, the front landing gear assembly installed backwards where the linkage had "no" stop so a hard landing would collapse the gear..loose nuts on both sides of the main gear assembly..really? Missing pulleys on the ailerons??? Now I have to spend over $5000.00 to re-rig the landing gear and ailerons, there was incorrect assembly of the engine components (Ward Foley) where there was fire-sleeve missing to insulate the fuel flow sensor..really? Another poor assembly which could had an in-flight fire ??? This is totally true and correct and really needs to be known if you take your Beechcraft there...I am just a pilot ..and not a mechanic..who now has to pay twice to resolve issues that Tom's Aircraft totally screwed up..since Tom's Aircraft was sold..who has the liability? I hope the former owner has "tail insurance", because there will be other aircraft out there which will have failure and risk their lives..."tighten up those nuts..because soon you won't have any left"! read more

This is a message for all pilots out there who do everything they can to fly safely. Flying is a pastime that is inherently dangerous. If something happens while we are in the air, I think we all know that we can't pull over and fix it. So we have to trust that the people working on our planes are ethical and well qualified. I have been a pilot since 2006 with over 450 hours of PIC flight time. Five years ago, I had a gear up landing at Long Beach Airport (Runway 30) with my flight instructor and then partner. We had insurance and took our Bonanza A-36 to Tom's Aircraft ran by Tom Jacobson. They claimed to us and our insurance company to be a repair facility that can fix Beechcrafts. They stated that they could bring our airplane back to working order according to the manufacturer's specifications. They ended up charging us around $120,000 to fix the damages from the gear up. Fast forward five years later, my partner and I are now in the position to upgrade our flying experience and get into a faster airplane. When we went to sell our Bonanza A-36, our airplane went through a pre-buy inspection. The inspection facility, using the guidelines set forth by the ABS (American Bonanza Society), found major discrepancies that affect the flight, safety, and airworthiness of the aircraft done prior by Tom's Aircraft. 1. Fuel Flow transducer missing fire sleeve, creating potential engine fire 2. Nose steering yoke mounted backwards 180 degrees, creating potential gear collapse. 3. Rear retract bolt on nose gear loose -creating potential main landing gear collapse. 4. Nose gear actuating arm worn and bolt loose creating potential nose gear collapse. 5. Brake lines installed not FAA approved creating potential failure and loss of braking ability. 6. Weight and Balance of Aircraft was on done after adding substantial new metal skin to the airframe to repair the damage. Tom's Mechanic just signed off that they did it even through a new weight and balance was never done. The plane can't weigh the same if that place new thicker metal to reinforce the damaged areas. Failure to do a new "Weight and Balance" as required after major Airframe and Engine removal and replacement could create the potential for "uncontrolled flight." None of these repairs at Tom's aircraft were tampered with during an annual inspection because it was not required if it was done right. We feel like we "dodged a bullet" since nothing catastrophic happened to us in that time. When we brought up all these issues to Tom's Aircraft, they have done nothing to assist us in resolving these discrepancies that they did not fix properly and charged us for. To add insult to injury, we had our repair bill looked over and Tom over-charged us $1000 for a battery that we could have bought from Aircraft Spruce around $200 just to pad the repair bill. In conclusion, not only will this repair shop rip you off, they will more importantly threaten the safety of your life by not doing things properly. My partner and I are not mechanics by trade, and neither are most pilots I know. We are trusting that the repair facility we take our airplane to are doing enough to keep us safe. This is definitely is NOT the goal of Tom's Aircraft. These clowns don't care about anything but making money from you. I do not recommend this repair facility based on their ethics and quality of work. read more
