I'm not sure what qualifies this as "the largest waterfall in the lower peninsula"; it's barely larger than a dam. I know that I saw much taller, more spectacular waterfalls in Charlevoix, and, last time I looked, that was in the lower peninsula as well. While this is definitely a pretty area, it's not worth going out of your way to see.

This is a gem of an adventure in the northern reaches of the lower peninsula. We were there on a rainy and somewhat chilly day, so we didn't venture into the rapids, but I can see the draw. Instead, we wandered and marvel, climbed on rocks, and talked about the way the water cut through the earth. And we are looking forward to our trip back in warmer weather to swim and splash.

I haven't been to the falls here in a minute, probably since I was about 11 years old. We took a road trip up north this week and decided to detour over to the falls. It was like I remembered, only the park had built a new bridge/path around the falls/nature preserve. We didn't have to pay to get in, although the park requires a recreation pass for admission. The office was closed, probably due the off-season, and there didn't appear to be any park rangers or other staff nearby. The weather was beautiful, high 70s, so it was a perfect day to visit the falls. The park was full of tourists, enjoying the weather and taking pics of the fall leaves that had already turned color. Meanwhile, the water was warm, even warm enough to jump in, which people were doing, although it was late October (give thanks for Indian summers, lol). The name of the falls means sacred waters and the location really is sacred. There was a nice park area, picnic tables, nice pathways, no littering, decent parking, and it was very nice and clean, also. I thought it was a really scenic location and perfect for the old photo-op. I'm glad none of us had to pay for a day pass to visit because I don't remember having to pay to see the falls/park when I was young. I loved coming here with my parents and sister every summer, so it brought back some good memories, some I had forgotten. Vintage photos, newspaper clippings and some brochures of he area were posted near the falls. It's true the falls aren't big, nor are they terribly remarkable in any amazing way, but they're really scenic and I loved visiting the spot again. They may not be big waterfalls, but I like them.

A fun stop on a road trip. The falls were easy to get to and fun whilst swimming. I would recommend a water shoe to make it easier to walk. read more
It was beautiful. A great take to get in and wade around or jump into the little natural pool. But it is crowded! It's across from a state campground, so it's to be expected, but too much for me personally. I'd rather enjoy it when it's not the summer season. read more

I went in early September so it was still nice out and the falls weren't packed with kids since they were back in school. Large parking lot, restrooms, paved walkway to the falls which makes it easier to access for the differently abled. You may need a recreational pass to enter but there was no one at the gate upon my arrival. Nice dirt hiking/biking trails throughout with a map board near the start. I would recommend the falls but not during peak times unless you like crowds and getting pictures with someone else's kids in the falls. read more
Great short walk, to the falls. Pronounced "wa-wau-awk." Fun and beauty for all ages and abilities. My mother walks with a cane and she used the wheelchair accessible ramp. There are also rock stairs for those able. Picnic tables and grills are available. Dog friendly. Bathrooms for changing. Pay a sm read more

It is a nice place, more rapids than falls but still very nice. There are a lot of snakes on some days very active. Overall a peaceful spot as long as there's not too many people there at one time. I'd go again! read more

What a beautiful place to visit. The waterfalls are near Rogers City and is a must for the whole family on a hot day. You can climb, sit, swim, and even jump in the falls. Fun for the whole family, including the dogs! There are also hiking trails for those that want to explore. read more
I've seen some very nice Falls in the past. This one is not one of them! It can barely be described as falls. I've taken larger tumbles out of bed then these falls do. Plus it is way too crowded. It's nice that kids can actually play in the water but there are too many adult idiots. I'll pass on seeing these falls again. read more

Growing up as a kid and visiting my grand parents at their cabin in Northern Michigan in the summer they would often take us to Ocqueoc Falls. I've since been back and the memories will always be there. All of us kids would play in the falls and in between breaks grandpa & grandma would have crackers with pickled bologna & cheese for us to snack on. The area is very nice and recently the state has added some nice pathways as well as several picnic areas for people to enjoy. If you've never been to Ocqueoc Falls I'd definitely recommend it. I'll always be going back from time-to-time! read more

What a gem! But more a long rapids than waterfall. Kept thinking about whether anyone would try to take a kayak though. Risky! Good stream accessibility for dogs! Big bucks spent on this little attraction for the 'Bicentennial Pathway', which really is the ski/hike trail done 1976. In 2012 they constructed a very elaborate walkway, stone observation area and step and a handicap ramp (dog liked that too). This elaborate gateway takes a bit from the falls. Nice some gov't agency had money to blow. But it is nice to see and take advatnage of the facilities and maybe see a protected wood turtle. read more

In the summer great to sit in the river by the falls and let the water flow over your body. Try to stand, lean back and push against the water power. Amazing feeling! Just remember there are maybe other people who want to do the same. Share the experience. Make someone happy! read more

I just went here today to check it out since I've never been to a waterfall and I was not let down. Yes it is kind of a short waterfall but once you step into the pool before it the current is actually pretty strong. You can go in barefoot but there are a lot of rocks so I highly recommend bringing flip flops or water shoes. There are bathrooms to change in but there's only one women's and one men's and they smelled really bad so change into your bathing suits before you go and just bring loose clothing to put on top of it. Don't let the bathrooms take away from the beauty of the trails and the river it's absolutely gorgeous and well worth the visit. You might want to get there early since it's going to be very packed in the parking lot but I went on a Saturday so I can't say anything for the weekend. read more

Beautiful little falls and park. Great picnic spot.

We used to love this place until the state decided they needed to update it and pave the nice dirt paths leading to the falls with sidewalk. They also built big stone block steps into the side of what used to be natural occurring stone ledge steps that led down to the falls. In my opinion these concrete "improvements" really ruined the falls. I'm going there to see nature. Oh and to add insult to injury now you have to pay to get near the falls in the form of a recreation pass on your license. Sad. read more
