First time here. Won't be my last! A friend encouraged me to check this spot out and I definitely wasn't disappointed. Rolled in early (4:30pm-ish) so it wasn't too busy and on the quieter side. You walk in and order at the counter. The staff were helpful and attentive. Stoked they had a Padres game on as well. I ordered the shrimp and two dorado tacos. Everything was delicious. The shrimp was soooo good. Will definitely order again. The tacos were really good but not actually spicy. The whole menu looks great though. I'll be back soon. read more

The only reason I'm not giving one star is because at least we didn't get sick from Oceanside Fish Shop's food. The first time I ate at the Fish Shop brand was at the location in Pacific Beach. I had a blackened swordfish sandwich several years ago there, and remembered it as being juicy, fresh and delicious. So when I saw this new location open up in North County, we decided to try it. I would guess the No. County restaurant is not owned or run by the same people as the PB restaurant. I say this because the Oceanside food is not even a smidgen close to the QUALITY or TASTE of the Pacific Beach location. Two dinners were both awful. Both dinners - all wrong. A fish n chips plate turned out to be a disaster, both in quality and taste. First, there was an immediate unmistakable bad fish smell upon delivery by DoorDash. Not only was the fish not fresh, it was over-fried way past golden brown; it was more like dark brown with a bitter taste. The 'chips' (fries) were replaced with onion rings at an additional cost. They also had the same dark hue, but no crunch whatsoever in either item on that plate. The mahi-mahi sandwich was a piece of very thin sliced mahi mahi. Overcooked and dry asf, at least the blackening rub was tasty. It's disappointing. I really liked their quaint Pacific Beach location, but after this bad experience, we won't be going back to the Oceanside Fish Shop location again. read more

Maybe my expectations were too high. San Diego has so many great options with this concept. Order the type of fish you want and how it's prepared and the seasoning. Okay the only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because the parking does suck. What do you expect on Coast Highway-so, you just have to be prepared to walk a little bit. Fish and chips and a cup of the clam chowder was tasty! It's a serve yourself kind of place, just place your order at the register-the different types of fish and type of season are plenty to choose from. The "catch of the day" was Halibut, which I got grilled along with Cole slaw and onion rings for the two sides. The halibut was a large piece. The fish ate dry, probably because I got it to go. Made fish tacos with the leftover halibut. The service was great. I stopped a server as soon as I came in and she was going to take me to the bar to order, then said she'd take care of me. This was my second time at Fish Shop in Oceanside and it won't be my last. This causal spot has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with shade so it's a perfect spot for a nice day. I got the TKO and Elote tacos and both were delicious and had unique flavors. They don't skimp on the fish or toppings which makes them well worth the price you pay. You order your food at the counter and the person ringing us up was helpful and went back to the kitchen to ask about gluten questions I had. Casual and clean spot for fish tacos (and more!) now in O-side. We always see really long lines at this place when we go by and recently got the chance to try it. We have been to the Point Loma and the Encinitas locations in the past, and it operates the same. You check out any of the huge menu boards outside or above the register, order at the register, take your number and find a seat. The fish is good and I really like the variety that you can have taking a fish or shellfish option, choosing a seasoning, and then making it into a taco, a salad, a sandwich, or a plate. Price varies wildly based on which fish and which style so be sure to look at that. I had the plate with Ahi tuna with blackened seasoning which was a little spicy and favor flavor packed. Stopped by on a Friday afternoon right before the rush. While we waited for our food the line moved out to the sidewalk. We didn't wait more than 10 mins for our food to come out. We ordered a large ceviche bowl and it came with chips and a salmon sandwich. The food tasted great. We enjoyed our seats although. Y the bar although if you're there when the sun is setting it might be in your eyes for a while but adjusting your seat will do the trick. They had all the tvs on playing basketball games. Small portions, you probably won't leave full from one meal, if you're a big eater. The service was definitely lacking. You pay at the counter then they bring you the food. First and last visit. We ordered by phone because the online system isn't up and running yet. Sadly, the food didn't live up to the hype, overpriced for the quality and overall experience. We managed to find street parking, though it was very limited. The kitchen and dining area appeared clean and were a decent size. We ordered the coconut shrimp, two fish & chips, a small coleslaw, and two mahi tacos (one with Fish Shop seasoning and one blackened). Unfortunately, most of the items didn't taste very fresh and were definitely lacking flavor. The fish & chips and coconut shrimp were underwhelming, and even the coleslaw felt flat. To make it worse, one taco didn't come with a lime, and one of the fish & chips orders didn't have tartar sauce. I specifically asked to confirm everything was in the bag and was assured it was, but that wasn't the case. I strongly dislike when I'm dismissed. For a to-go order, that attention to detail really matters. Pretty simple; it's standard. The only standout were the mahi tacos, which had decent flavor. I have been to the Pacific Beach and Encinitas fish shops in the past so when I heard that this one had opened in Oceanside, I wanted to try it with friends who lived nearby. We came on Thursday for oyster night and there were a few people in line ahead of us. The line moved pretty quickly, and we each ordered a little more than a dozen oysters. We then went to the bar to order wine. It was a bit confusing because there was no list of what the wines were. It was just the bartender telling us the kinds without brands. He was a little bit gruff so we didn't want to ask too many questions. We each tasted a wine and chose one of the two 2 whites we were offered, then we took a seat. The restaurant is a big and open area and the windows were all open. Shortly thereafter, our oysters were brought to us, and the staff was attentive about whatever else we might've needed. The oysters were delicious, but there was a ton of shells shards in them, which really detracted from the oysters themselves, having to pull them out of your mouth with every bite. They are a great price, but it would really be much better if there was a way they could make sure not so much broken oyster shell bits were in each oyster. 3.5 stars read more

I had super high hopes for this place since I have been to the one in Encinitas and really like that one. To have one closer? Score!!! But.... So let's start out with the service. We happened to come when it was late enough in the day to miss the lunch crowd yet early enough to miss the dinner crowd. I highly recommend early afternoon because when we arrived, there was only one person ahead of us, but when we were leaving, the line was starting down the short steps and into the sidewalk. The young man at the counter...he was fantastic! So nice and genuinely enthusiastic about his job and talking to the customers. I have a feeling this is just his personality, which is honestly perfect for customer service. He was super friendly and smiling and gave opinions when asked and his suggestions didn't disappoint. If I still had a small business, I would have done my best to try to steal him away to come work for me haha Now the reason for the three stars...believe it or not, it was the food. Don't get me wrong... the fish lumpia was fantastic and if I only ordered that, it would have been a five star review. We ordered the fish stew for my husband and it looked like it would have so much flavor, but ended up being a little watery without much flavor if you can believe that. my daughter and I ordered the fish plates with me getting the seabass and her getting the swordfish. My seabass... honestly I'm not sure what happened. The center was cooked but kind of mushy... like from when a fish is frozen too long or something? Yet the outside was overcooked and dry. How is that even possible? Not much flavor as well. My daughter didn't have the strange mushy texture to her fish, but it was definitely overcooked and super dry. The sides? Fries and rice pilaf, which were ok but nothing to really change my opinion on the meal itself. Now my sister and her husband went there much later the same evening and they said their food was great... so I don't know??? Maybe we came at a bad period of the day which was great for less wait time but not so great for the food? Beats me. I will probably try it again just to see if that was the case and will update my review if that is how it goes. For now though, it's a solid 3 because the guy at the counter saved it. Oh! To put it frankly, it wasn't worth the wait. My wife and I waited but probably 25 minutes just to be told we can sit at the bar to order food. The fish and chips were... okay. Nothing really to scream about so I'd give them 2.5/5. The fish fell apart and the breading fell off every time. The fries were always pretty basic and had nothing special about them. The clam chowder wasn't bad but also didn't really have much clam in it. It tasted good though. My wife got a salmon plate with rice and veggies and the rice was plain white rice that looked mushy. We also had to ask for more teriyaki glaze because there was maybe a tea spoon or maybe the lightest brush of it on it. I'd say the best thing we ordered out of everything was the spicy dorado taco, however, the menu listed it as mahi mahi. So was it dorado or mahi mahi? Idk, it had a bunch of stuff on the taco so I couldn't tell the difference. I'd say this food was quite over priced for probably the most mediocre food you can get. If you want good fish and chips I'd recommend Belching Beaver or Harbor Fish and Chips. Pretty bummed I waited so long and paid as much as I did because I left pretty annoyed. read more

Have visited the Fish Shop in PB and, eventhough I think it's pricey, we wanted to come to the new location in Oceanside. We were there around 7pm last night, a Tuesday. Big menu posted outside and inside. Definitely a lot of options and customizations available. There is a walk up counter where you place your order and then you find a seat. We paid around $85 for our meal. My daughter ordered the grilled shrimp and chips. I got the plate with sea bass (salt and pepper), Mac salad and green salad. My husband got a jumbo shrimp taco and a small order of ceviche. We got a water, a fountain drink and a Societe IPA. Pros: my plate: the sea bass was cooked perfectly and was delicious. I liked the Mac salad which was light on the mayo and my green salad was a good size with delicious citrus vinaigrette, capers, leafy greens, a few cherry tomatoes, slices of cucumber and pickled red onion. I love a fresh salad. My daughter liked her fries (and my fish) and my husband really liked his ceviche. He would come back for that alone. The tortilla chips were really good as well. The cons: the shrimp were overcooked so they were tough and didn't have the best flavor unfortunately. My husband said his taco was a veggie/cheese taco with 3 shrimps. For around $9 he was quite disappointed. I shared some of my fish with my daughter after she gave up on her shrimp. I can attest to the fact that the shrimp were not good and we left a few behind. The service was great, the staff was friendly, the ambience was laid back. This building is super cool and we like people watching on Coast Highway. Went here during their soft opening. Ryes and Grind, the restaurant that used to be in this space, will always have a special place in my heart, but Oceanside Fish Market really surprised me. The service was great from beginning to finish. All the staff were very helpful and checked in on us regularly. The menu is super customizable so it's great for folks who like their food a particular way. I went for the coconut shrimp and my wife ordered the mahi salad. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and it was served with a sweet and sour sauce that complemented the shrimp perfectly. The mahi on the salad was cooked perfectly and the salad toppings went really well with the mahi. We enjoyed our meal on the patio. The weather was perfect and it was a wonderful experience. Ugh I really wanted to like this place but it was just sooooo average. The tacos were bland, they forgot our drinks, and they didn't have any good hot sauce. The ambiance of the Fish Shop is really nice. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor seating also has gas heaters for chilly nights. The staff was friendly. We had the fried fish n chips which was 3 1/2 small pieces of fish and a basket of fries. Pretty good but I think I will try it grilled next time we go. Also got coconut shrimp and it was also pretty good. The dipping sauce was very tasty. As big fans of the Encinitas Fish Shop my wife and I were very excited to try this new location. Needless to say we were happy that the taste and quality of the food was as great as the Encinitas location. While wait staff was very helpful I was not impressed with the fact that they only have one register, making the way to order way too long. There is plenty of seating and the decor has the perfect seaside vibe. Unfortunately the Fish Shop has no control of ridiculously loud over compensating motorcycles that dive by every few minutes making the seats in the front not the best decision. We ordered tacos (typically my go to) - I love the TKO taco I got it fried this time, the mango salsa is sooo good. Then we split the coconut shrimp (another very good decision) and ordered a side of vegetables. Service is always friendly and it typically doesn't take long to get your food.
