Most of the other guests are very friendly, and we always leave making new friends. This is an AANR resort, which we like. First-time guests must complete a background check, which adds a level of safety for all guests and residents. There is a discount day fee rate for all AANR members and our entry fee for us as a couple was only $34.08. Non-AANR visitors must complete a background check each time they visit. The grounds are well-kept and maintained, and all of the facilities are clean. A poolside bar serves full alcohol, or you can bring your own and keep your cooler at the pool if you have no glass. The drinks at the bar are decent and fairly priced. The bar has a kitchen, and you can order from a limited menu. The food is decent and priced well. The front gate is attended, but we usually have to call when we arrive, and the attendant will meet us to check us in, collect our fees, and then open the gate for us. Annual members can get a FOB to access the gate unattended. Service can be hit or miss in the bar/kitchen. Dee Anne (sp) does a wonderful job and is fast and friendly. Another bartender also does housekeeping and is incredibly slow, so we have learned to avoid the bar when she is working. We will continue to return to Sunny Sands and recommend it to all our naturalist friends.

After reading what has happened with the hot tub gone, restaurant gone it has been ruined. Maybe someone else will find an area to open another so the hundreds of folks liked it can visit. I have a home in palm coast with a private pool and may start seeking others from Sunny Sands to visit and enjoy the wind and sun as we did there, once. Sometimes new owners don't get it, they buy because it was successful and they mess it up by killing what made it to begin with, sad.

Sadly, due to the hurricane devastation two years ago, they are still recovering getting back to where the park used to be. This should not deter you since there is plenty to see and do. Its got a Bike track for BMX and a large playground with clean, modern styles. The highlight here for me was the walk down to the sink hole/spring. Its a lovely bit of Florida history. Last year, there was water in the sinkhole. Today it has mostly become a dry pit with a boil at tue back, beneath the rocks. There was a turtle taking advantage of the little pool of water. We arrived here mid-morning on a weekday, so there wasn't many visitors in the park and we were able to drive the winding roads much of it under the tree canopy and well under the posted speed limit. We started out at the visitor center which if pretty amazing here at Paynes Prairie SP it has a lot of interactive displays and a short film outlining the park's history and amenities. The staff here is so welcoming and quick to answer any questions and provided us some details of what the park has to offer and what you can expect to see during any season. It's impossible to see and do everything in one trip so I had a few things I wanted to accomplish during our visit in only a few hours - besides walking a few of the beautiful trails, I wanted to catch a glimpse of the bison and wild horses that roam the prairie, there are a few vantage points to do this in the park starting with telescopes inside the visitors center and a deck in the backyard there, but I was more interested in getting closer to nature so we headed for the beautiful observation tower located just a few hundred feet further down the concrete path and wow what a view. Well today the bison and wild horses were no where to be found due to the temperatures but we did see some of the smaller animals roaming through the brush and wooded areas so it was a good day. The parks is very well maintained and has many things in place so you can make the most of your visit including a beautiful pier, a boat launch, Pavilions with charcoal grills, clean restrooms, a gift shop inside the visitor center, lots of well marked hiking trails, plenty of paved parking lots and a beautiful campground with large private sites. This park is definitely worth a visit and one I'd love to return to again and again...

The water is absolutely beautiful and crystal clear, and we saw wildlife pretty much the entire time. We spotted tons of birds, turtles, fish, and even the famous monkeys! Kayaking was a great way to explore the park because you can get surprisingly close to the wildlife while still just enjoying the scenery. Seeing the monkeys out there in the wild was definitely something I won't forget. Beautiful park, plenty to see, and a great place to spend a few hours on the water. I'd absolutely come back.

My parents were reminiscing about when they were middle school aged and came here for field trips…read more I was surprised to find out that Silver Springs State Park and the glass bottom boat tours have been around for that long! It was about a 1.5 hour ride from Orlando. Woke up real early on a Saturday (on honestly one of the coldest days of the year) to arrive at the park around 8am. I highly suggest purchasing glass bottom boat tour tickets online about a week in advance atleast since time slots fill up! We purchased the 1.5 hour tour on the boats. Our tour guide was incredible and shared so much knowledge and facts about the wildlife and park. I got to see tons of manatees! Plus getting to see gators, turtles, birds, and even monkeys! The glass bottom gives such a cool perspective on viewing the wildlife and plants underwater. Aside from the tour, we walked several trails to enjoy the great outdoors. Also, we had coffee in the morning when we first got here and lunch after the tour. The food was pretty good and filling. At the gift shop I made sure to leave with a magnet and Christmas ornament to remember such a great day here.
