They seem to have almost everything!
As an American who frequently travels for business, sometimes things come up and you need to find "your places" like you're used to seeing at home. In this case, it was a department/electronics/Home Depot-like store.
Global warming politics and science aside, things are getting warmer. And, as solid as European craftsmanship is, the inclusion of Air Conditioning isn't quite there just yet. That said, when things begin to get above 90 degrees F, with high humidity, things can get downright unbearable very quickly.
I was staying in a small hotel, sans Air Conditioning, at it got a bit muggy and, as I mentioned, unbearable. The air, heavy and damp, has it's own weight and it's lazy. It just sits on top of you, like an invisible weighted steam blanket. You can take off as much as you want. Lie as still as you want. It will find you, creep inside you and draw the moisture from you like melting chocolate on a sidewalk.
After one evening of this dead damp air nightmare, a fan was needed. Upon a quick search on G and YELP!, I came across OBI. Now, as I've learned, it's not O-B-I, as in letters. It's actually pronounced "Obi" as in "Obi-wan-kenobi". Sorry if I spelled that incorrectly, Nerds.
I made the drive over and, not speaking a word of German, I was able to navigate with the help of translators on my phone. Then, up a long escalating walkway, dead center where it takes you to the second floor, was an island of fans, bathed in golden light with the sounds of angels singing that gets louder as you approach them.
Okay.......so the golden light and songs of angels may have been due to heat stroke hallucinations, but that was my experience.
I picked the one that was just right for my needs and moved on to the checkout downstairs.
I was fairly in-and-out without much browsing. Not just because I'm a "dude", but because it was hot and humid and I couldn't wait to get back into that sweet cool conditioned air in my rental car.
Would I go back? Absolutely! I did have to ask for a little help. As I said, the translator app helped with that, so I would go in armed with a translator app at the ready so you can get what you need done. read more
