No food at breakfast for 45 minutes
Alexa B.

When booking the reservation we called and specifically asked to not be on the first floor. When we got our key they put us on first floor. After a full day of Busch gardens, we got ready to shower and there were only 3 towels when on our reservation, we denoted 4 people would be in the room. When we asked the front desk for towels they said they didn't have anymore, so we had to reuse 1 towel, which is unacceptable for a hotel to run out of towels. The next morning, we arrived at breakfast around 8:20am (over an hour before breakfast closed) and saw there was no fruit, no food, no forks, orange juice had run out, and there would be no food for the next hour. By the time there was food, the eggs and sausage were cold and the eggs were chunky and gross. The milk given was also expired, and upon raising this problem they took the milk to the back and brought out a glass bottle of milk -- not sure if this was new milk or the smaller expired milks poured into the bottle. The room was beautiful, the outside area was delightful, but the service, breakfast, and amenities were not acceptable and disappointing.

My room was extremely large and well-maintained. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. There was ample workspace in the room as well. Room had a coffee bar and fridge, which was great. The views from the room were excellent. It was an easy walk to the parking garage. I love that they offer covered parking because of the Florida heat and even better that it is so close. The parking fees are a little high, but that is frequently a complaint I have about hotels so that could just be me. Elevators were a bit slow this time around. I wish all of our conference had been on just the second floor because although the views from the 14th floor, conference rooms were stunning I was often late getting to those rooms because it was hard to catch an elevator. Most of the catering provided to my conference by the hotel was far above the average. We had two great lunches, a really nice dinner and a fabulous reception. The only part of the catering that was underwhelming was breakfast. The hotel is also located quite close to Tampa, International Airport and international Plaza mall, which is incredibly convenient.

Checkin for members and non-members of World Of Hyatt is smooth and the service is quick, professional, and done with politeness that is genuine. My double room had all the required elements and restocked coffee every morning. The iron and hairdryer worked perfectly as well. This stay was a bit different because while I was here the hotel had a fire on my floor. The facility did an excellent job moving a large amount of people (3 floors of us) down stairs to the lower level in the early morning hours. While the fire department was on site the hotel kept us all informed and safe. It worked exactly the way it should for the hotel and the guests. I was very impressed. We returned to our rooms once the floors were completely checked and I did not once feel my safety was at risk before or after the event. Checkout was smooth as well.

We found the room at the Marriott to be spacious, and the bathrooms similar to the JW. We found that compared to JW, the Marriott lobby was bigger, with more lounging and work station areas but also more people and noisy/lively. It has an outdoor restaurant overlooking the river, as well as a high end Mexican restaurant LONA (which I highly recommend) which provided great food and an escape from the crowds when you sit at their bar/lounge area. The outdoor restaurant/bar also had live entertainment during happy hour. What I particularly like about these 2 properties is that you can enjoy the amenities of both location by just walking accross the street via the skybridge. We went to Driftlight Steakhouse at JW in the morning for breakfast and had the buffet. The food was wonderful, service even better. We found check in to be very easy, especially since there was a dedicated reservation desk for Marriott Platinum Elite and such. It was good to have since the day we were there there was a conference/event happening that weekend. The only disappointment is the Perk Coffee and Provisions shop near the reception area, which was WAY overpriced and service slow and unfriendly. For most of their items on the shelves there was NO price. You had to ask what the price for each of the items, ranging from water to the alcohol. In summary, a very good stay at the Tampa Marriott Water street. Good alternative to JW based on the price. Also, in the future would book a balcony room with water views.

We were excited to discover that the hotel is just a short walk away from one of our favorite beaches, Upham beach, which made the trip even more special. The property had a fun South Beach feel with plenty of seating to socialize, a cute pool with bright flamingo floats, a hot tub, and a great outdoor pool bar. Natalia was a great bartender, she was friendly and gave the most awesome recommendations off the menu. She did not miss a beat! Randy was a fantastic host. He was in communication via text as soon as the room was ready and greeted us immediately as we arrived on the property which does not require you to check in as they send you your room number and code to get in. In the room they also leave all important information including your parking pass and two complimentary drink tickets for a convenient arrival no matter what time you get in. Our room was clean, modern, and comfortable, with a king bed, updated bathroom, big-screen TV, and a convenient kitchenette. There were complimentary mimosas in the lobby each morning. They even have a wonderful restaurant on the 2nd floor, 82 Degrees, where we enjoyed most of our meals for the weekend.

However, getting upstairs to the pool area was absurd. The line and wait for the elevators was shocking. We still don't know why the elevators were so held up creating such a long queue after people checked in. Luckily we were only there for the pool, so we opted for the 3 flights of steps to get up there to avoid the wait. Travelers staying there with luggage did not have that option. Once we got up to the pool, the service was a little hands-off. The attendant didn't come over to check on us or take our orders, even though that was supposed to be part of the cabana experience. He mentioned that they had more guests at the bar than expected, so it wasn't a huge deal, but it was something I noticed. The food and drinks were just okay. For me, the day pass was really only worth it because it covered valet and included the cost of two drinks. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have felt like there was enough value in the experience. Overall, it wasn't a bad way to spend a couple of hours, especially if you're looking for something to do around downtown Tampa, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way for the pool experience itself.

So appreciated after the long day. The restaurant options were great - easy onsite access with a wide range of choices. We found ourselves at Anchor and Brine a few times because of the waterfront view. We went to the pool to relax at the end of the day whenever we could. Dylan made us feel like family. The hotel had the usual hot breakfast available - including 2 waffle stations, a hot entree and a side (think scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon). Plenty of juices, fresh coffee, fruit, pastry, cereal, etc. They also have a reasonable amount of seating. I thought I'd be fighting for the elevators with a sold out hotel, but we never really hit any snags. The room was clean and done in fun colors. We had a decent view out the window, and no problem getting a cart for our luggage. Our room also was quiet and dark at night, so we got a good night's sleep. The rooms also have a mini fridge and a hair dryer was also provided in the room. The toiletries are in large bottles attached to the wall, but they were decent (no taking them home with you lol). There is also a Starbuck's attached to the lobby of the hotel and you can mobile order from there also. If you go out of the hotel, just 1 block down is Robek's, which does smoothies, juices, avocado toasts, etc. Across the street is CVS and a block away is Publix, so super convenient hotel to stay at for pretty much any needs. The parking is $35/day and the garage is right next to the hotel. Easy in and out and there are elevators in the garage. I'd definitely stay here again if I was going to Tampa.

But it was just way too overpriced for what it is just to take advantage of tourists going on cruises. I paid over $300 for one night in a clean but well-worn room in a slightly above basic hotel in Tampa. Half of that price would have been more appropriate. Lots of stars go to the very helpful front desk staff who are accustomed to helping guests get to the Port of Tampa in a timely manner. Their continental breakfast was also top-notch for a 2-star hotel - they had regular AND red velvet flavored batter for their waffle makers! Incredible! I liked how this hotel offered a free shuttle service to the port. I would have bumped it up a star if it also offered a free shuttle to and from the Tampa airport. And if it was a cheaper stay overall, haha! Overall, I'd recommend staying here if you get a good discount.
