Aquarena Aquatic & Leisure Centre - Awesome outdoor pool

Aquarena is currently undergoing some major renovations but it still has a lot to offer. There is…read moreplenty of onsite parking and easily accessible by public transport. You don't have to be a member to make use of the facilities, casual passes are also available. The indoor and outdoor pools will be put to good use come summer; there are instructor-led aerobic/swimming/weights/yoga classes that cater to the young and old; and the weights facility has been relocated close to Westfield Doncaster due to the ongoing renovations. For parents with young kids, you can still get in your workout as there is an on-site day care centre. If you enrol your kids in the swimming lessons there is a cafe to cater to your caffeine and nutritional needs.

She is very patient and extremely helpful. My journey from being scared of water to being able to now do backstroke and a little bit of freestyle would not be possible without Kobe's help! Aquarena's pools are clean and very safe with life guards on duty at all times. The change room facilities are also very clean and well maintained and the showers are perfect after a hard swim lesson As they now call me the 'tranfish' I have a lot to live up to and look forward to many more lessons next term. If you can't swim then I highly recommend booking in adult swim classes ASAP!

This pool has a nice 'newness' about it, it's got a wonderfully high silver ceiling (with sunlight)…read moreand wide-open spaces so you don't feel trapped in a little humid room. There's a café at the entrance that sells a variety of focaccias, salads, lasagna and pies. It's floor to ceiling windows overlook the wave pool, keeping a peaceful (and dry) atmosphere, without losing the feeling of being at the pool. There's also a little canteen inside the pool area that sells your regular fried food, lollies and ice creams. The center also has a gym upstairs (addition costs), two family change rooms, spa & sauna (additional cost), a warm wading pool, wave pool, kids pool, baby pool and outdoor pool. It also offers excellent disability services. Personally I try to only come during the morning, because the afternoon holds a lot of kids classes which take up all lanes except one (which makes it very difficult and squishy for the casuals like me). I also prefer the morning because well...its probably in my mind, but I swear the water is yellower and saltier the later it is in the day. I mean the water isn't crystal clear to begin with (so much chlorine you can only see 5-10m in front of you), but at least it's not murky...yet. If you're grossed out, the outdoor 50m pool has lovely water and you can see over 20m in front of you, but the hours are limited throughout the winter months. I still enjoy coming here, as it feels big and modern, and doesn't have that stuffy feeling that most little places have.

So this place is great for young ones...just be aware, that if young ones want to use the wave…read morepool, parents have to go in with them Very clean and nice...currently doing an upgrade of the outdoor pool so it is out of order (assuming it will be back up and running by next summer) Also, they had comfortable tables and chairs for parents to sit on as they watched (versus uncomfortable benches)

This zoo gives you a chance to see the animals that are local to Australia, like the kangaroo, the koala etc. they have lots of play areas for younger kids. ,a few picnic areas and at different hours they have one of the caretakers come out and talk about a certain species of animal found there. If there are specific topics you are interested in, I would suggest to look at their website and know what time they have their talks and where, to plan for that. The best part for us was at the end they have a bird show at 3pm where the trainers come out to show your a few if the species they take care of and your studio see how well the birds they have are trained. It's pretty impressive. The downside is that it was a bit hot day and most animals are napping in the shade with their face hidden. Perhaps it's better to buy tickets yourself instead of paying a tour company to take you. You will have more time to do as you please. The main issue you will have is how to get there.. but if you are local.. you probably won't have that issue ;)
