Just off St Pauls Road, hidden away in Clifton, this is a local shop for local people. The corner shop everybody wants next to their house. It's just a shame that due to its location that's probably all the business they will get.
This corner shop is a real family business with the nicest owner I have ever met. Literally, while on a night out once it started to rain, lots, so I went in to see if they sold umbrellas, they didn't, so he gave me his! He only slightly recognised me as a local, but he trusted me to bring it back in the morning! How wonderful is that! I mean imagine walking into the supermarket and having the manager give you his umbrella!
I mean you can't go to Oakfield Stores for your weekly shop, but it was such a life safer for me when I lived close by. When all other shops were too far away or closed, I could get my milk, bread, newspaper, and even cloves of garlic and onions once or twice and of course plenty of chocolate. It defines the term convenience store.
You can even rent DVDs from there now. I will always miss stopping off there to pick up some bits and chatting to the owner about the cricket, which he was usually watching behind the counter. Go India! read more
