A nice friendly library in Oakdale a suburb of Poole Dorset situated in Dorchester Rd. The library manager is Sue Readman and now Diana Logan. This library was once a church, St Georges church of England,
from 1931 until the new church in Darby's Lane was built. They have a singing group for the under 5's
and lots of books of course, very neat and tidy with coffee and tea facilities! Yesterday 1st March 2013
there was a brilliant photo exhibition organised by Diana Logan and Frank Henson a well known local
historian and writer. A new book is published by Frank Henson and Ian Andrews a former county
counciior of Poole. It has fascinating pictures of Poole old and new. The exhibition was opened by
the mayoress of Poole also the Reverend Anthony Macrow-Wood of St Georges church and also
councilor Judy Butt. The exhibition was about weddings that had taken place at the library then
church, in 1940's 1950's up until 1959 when the new church was built! My lovely parents, now
deceased 2 years ago were married there, Hazel Kate Anderson and Ronald Mortimer Fox. My grandfather
was Stanley Anderson who worked at BDH and Holten Heath also a steward on the ships during the
war going to Southampton and other places. He was married to Elizabeth Emily churchouse former
teacher of Hamworthy first school. She lived in Hill street before having our family home built in
48 Shottsford Rd Oakdale in 1931 i believe. My maternal grandmother unfortunately died when mum
was 5 and she was Daisy May King from Ventnor Isle of Wight and Cowes. Grandad met Elizabeth Churchouse on the ship to Southampton, he was very well ,loved and respected always telling a yarn
or two to me and my sister Julia and brother Stephen Fox! My brothers daughters went to Cambridge
University and live in Bridport. My daughter got her English degree at London met. Have a son at
