Mustang Motel - Clean & friendly, call ahead & rates were very inexpensive :) September 2015

No free breakfast included (as of 12/2014). Despite that, it was still one of my favorite cheap motel stops on our cross country trip. Checking in at midnight consisted of me ringing the bell, no doubt waking up the hotel manager who let me in (and thank God she let me because it was -18 outside) and filling out a form and making payment. The one policy they have which may turn off some customers is they ask to make a copy of your credit card and drivers license for any guests who check in after midnight. The idea of a paper copy of your credit card may be enough to scare off some guests, but I trust my CC enough to know I won't be liable for any fake charges and whether places make a copy or just swipe it...either way, they can have it on file, so it really didn't matter to me. The room was inviting, small, cozy and very clean. It took us a while to figure out how to turn the heat on which was a serious problem because it was -18 outside. Aside from turning the thermostat up, you need to slide it on the "on position" which is a very small switch beneath the thermometer and then you need to also increase the temperature on the vent that's adjacent to the bathroom. They need to have a manual for this or something -- my wife was seriously sleeping in a sweater and vest until I figured it out about half an hour after she was already asleep, which resulted in her waking up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat. Check out was easy and the hotel manager recommended breakfast at the place next door. Would definitely stay here again if I found myself in the area.

It has everything you need - gas, very comfortable lodging (including for RVs if you're carrying your own lodging), a general store, restaurant, bar, and soft serve. There is enough pavement around the property to get a decent walk in. The value for what you get in lodging is far and away the best I've seen in years. No IKEA furniture falling apart in the closet here (throwing shade at Marriott chains in this price range). There's a wood dresser, solid beds with comfortable mattresses, many different types of pillows, comfortable seating, a LOT of space, a real bathtub, and multiple sinks (in and out of the bathroom). We stayed for a full day and 2 nights during a snowstorm. They are very efficient in removing snow so people can move around both with their vehicles and feet. There is nothing to DO here, but you can eat at the restaurant nearly 24/7 and they do have a pretty typical hotel gym. We saw the manager responding to a complaint about a dog that had been left alone in a room and was barking up a storm at 10pm. There is at least one entire building where pets aren't allowed, so if you're not interested in ending up like the poor guy making the complaint, ask the desk clerk about availability in the pet-free building(s) when you call for reservation or check in.

The main point that attracted me to this particular property was the price point per night, which was around $60 compared to the other handful of properties around. One of the cheaper properties in town for sure. I didn't have too much expectations for this place, other than the fact that I had stayed with this brand before and they met expectations. Just like me and the marathon, same distance, different city. So, here I was same brand, just different location. For me, I just needed something clean and hospitable for a night and this property did a good job of doing so. Just one gripe about this place. It took me a pretty good while to locate my room on the second floor. While the lady at the front desk was helpful in explaining it to me, I had a wonderfully difficult time, but I eventually found it. It was kind of a maze, but what can you do. This Super 8 motel is located on the main thoroughfare of Flaming Gorge Way. Look for the exits off the I-80 in either direction for Green River and you're pretty much there on Flaming Gorge Way. Didn't take long to locate it. The property does boast a private parking lot, so that helps, but then again, most if not all do, don't they? I stayed here for one night only, just for the marathon. I would then drive back to Salt Lake City, UT pretty much right after the race. Hardcore, huh? The check in process was self explanatory. The person at the desk was helpful and courteous for the most part. After getting into my room, not after smelling cigarette smoke lingering in the hallways on the 2nd floor, I got room #203, which was on a corner. The room itself was 2 queen beds and quite nice. Clean and spacious for what was needed. There was a mini fridge and a television, but no microwave. That's alright though. I didn't use the television, but the mini fridge came in handy. The comfort of the bed was above average, since I got in a nice 7 hours of quality sleep, considering that I didn't get any on the flight Thursday night/Friday morning. Adjusting to Wyoming and the altitude is interesting. So far so good. Just an annoying headache, but that's fine. The room itself is deemed satisfactory and the bathroom was good too. Clean and hospitable. The check out process was somewhat weird, but I guess expected. I checked out of the hotel at 5am. Found the lady at the desk sleeping with eyes closed. Cute, I think. I waited for a couple of minutes before putting my stuff in the rental car. Came back in and she woke up with a startle. Sorry about that. Lol I told her I was checking out and handed her my room key card. All she said was "ok." And I headed out thereafter. Overall, I think this place can be better with the customer service, but I guess I can sympathize when you work the overnight hours. Still, no way to be sleeping on the job. I know we are in small town Wyoming on a Saturday morning, but come on. Lol still it was funny. Recommend Super 8 as a good hotel brand and this particular property if your travels come through here in Southwestern Wyoming. Support local! B-

I accidentally booked this hotel while trying to reserve a stay in New Mexico, and within 5 minutes of making the reservation, I called to cancel. After following up, I was met with zero accountability. The owner, Lisa, showed no willingness to resolve the situation, despite the fact that I never stayed at the property and contacted them immediately after booking. This isn't about policy it's about basic customer service and integrity. When a business tells a customer something will be handled, they should stand by it. Instead, I'm now out $130 for a stay that never happened. If something goes wrong with your booking, don't expect understanding or flexibility here. That alone should be enough to make you think twice.

The western look continues on the door mat, the ceiling beams in the cafe room, and our room, and yes, the lobby. 3. The parking is very close to our room. 4. Hubby picked this location, because it's closer to the church, and we're doing on a Jubilee 2025 Pilgrimage. 5. The rooms were quiet. This is Wyoming, and it's spring, and it feels like we're the only ones-here-quiet. 6. I also love the fact, I have a place to put my carry-on bag, plenty of space on the counter top for my waterpik, etc. for two people. 7. Fast computer connection. 8. Instead of bottled water & snacks, we got some bonus points! Negative: 1. Our bed light by the window, isn't working! 2. We can't get EWTN station on TV. (That's OK, I used my phone). 3. The entrance door, to the building, doesn't lock. It says to use key to get in, but it doesn't. 4. The faucets are hard to turn on/off, it's the other way around, unlike other hotels. 5. My pillows were over-stuffed & hard. 6. I feel guilty throwing away an extra hard boiled egg, with the price of eggs these days . . . but they should have them packaged single serving, for those who don't feel 'forced' in eating something they can't. Because it's cold, the map didn't indicate, we can walk inside the building to have breakfast (lobby, downstairs), instead we have to drive our car around. Since today is Sunday, we're on a pilgrimage, we're dressed in church attire, and having hot flashes, staying longer in a cafe room that's making me even hotter and being 'forced' to eat something that I didn't feel comfortable eating (selections were not my type of food, I was craving for some waffles not processed foods). They did have fresh fruits, and if I was a bit more comfortable in that room, I probably managed to have some to eat later in the car, but I just got up and left, leaving my husband to eat and finished his meal, while I sat in the comfort of my car, and waited for like 10 minutes. So, when the staff asked how was my breakfast, I lied, when I say: Fine, thank you! 7. There's some steps down, from the car to our room hallway. There's no elevator. I'm so grateful, I have an old man in his mid 70's, who is still as 'strong as a bull'. When you're a senior, you shouldn't be doing any of that, but here we are, and it's Lent and we're putting them down, honestly on YELP! 8. I was going to wait hubby in the lobby, so I tried sitting on one of the 'cozy & comfortable' leather chairs, in one of my favorite colors, and it's like it's meant for bigger & taller cowboys, and as a 5'2" person, it was like lying down in bed! LOL I got right up, and decided to walk to my car. So, you could say: being hot & bothered, not having the right food, and trying to sit down, didn't help with my aggravation! TIP: Make sure you're curtains are completely closed, so people across the pool or hallway, can't seen you butt-naked walking around in your room. What we could have done and didn't thought about was to swim in the pool, which was right outside our room! (We didn't have our swimming suits, anyway, it's very cold still in early spring, it's not something we would usually do, when we've been on the road 6 hours.
