This review is for the Oak Pointe Church/WEST BLOOMFIELD location at West Bloomfield Middle School! We've been attending this church for the past few years and have grown so much deeper in our faith in Jesus, while being so warmly welcomed into the church family. Our kids LOVE the children's ministry classes during service, they have learned so much and have made so many new friends! There is always fresh coffee, tea and treats at the welcome table. Both Pastor Joe and Pastor Phil are both phenomenal men of God and devoted leaders of their families and the church body. This is a review for the West Bloomfield location. This is such a great, welcoming church! It is much smaller than the other Non-Denominational mega churches, so you feel like you can really get to know people. Oh, and it's a popup church on a pro-turf soccer field! It's a really cool environment to be in. The kids kick soccer balls around before and after church. Pastor Joe is just a fantastic pastor, he is so easy to understand and his Bible teaching is solid. Oak Pointe Novi has an amazing Young adults ministry called Sozo. (18-29y.o) it includes almost 200 people actively involved. There's college ages and young professionals from all backgrounds. We meet Sunday Evenings at 7-9pm. There's life groups during the week at different locations and times, all studying different topics. Some are co-ed and others are just for men or women. If you don't see a life group you're interested in and you feel called to lead one, reach out to Adam and Laura. We have different serve teams and serve opportunities for those who have a heart to serve. Sozo partners with Bold Hope for our mission trips. Oak Pointe church is the most welcoming, least intimidating church I've visited. This is a come-as-you-are church; Jeans, sweatshirts, t-shirts, does not matter just come! No judgments here. In fact, you'll often hear a message that echoes it is not our place as Christians to judge one another - and they really embody that here. There are three identical services each weekend so one is likely to fit your preference. They also live stream their services so if you want to watch from home you can watch live or a re-play afterwards. Pastor Bob has a way of delivering messages that are easy to understand and easy to interpret how you can apply the Bible's teachings to your life. And yes, sometimes the Bible and its implications can be challenging or make us feel uncomfortable. But there is something about the way Bob can guide us through these words that leaves me feeling that God's love for me is so great, everything else in life seems small. Everyone has their own taste this format just isn't mine. I already belong to a church and I attended this church to help reintroduce a friend back into church. This is the location she chose and I was happy to support. I do prefer a liturgical experience so I am sure that contributes more heavily to my score than I may even realize. There are coffee stations and donuts galore (next to the donation jar.) The message, once we got to it, was solid. It was clear and well presented. I appreciated that for a "mega church" the message was not glossed over. The reason I gave it three stars is the over the top sales job/ concert that represented the first 30 minutes. Service starts - three song "concert" Video/ ask for money - " the $25/ head" event you can go to Concert - two more songs Prayer Request for money - offering taken before any real service begins (???) Concert - Couple more songs Videos (plural) - the missions going on in 2020 Request for money - this is how you can support the missions Couple more songs Exactly 30 minutes into the service the actual use of scripture begins. So the message is good. I recommend being 30 minutes late to avoid the excessive "sponsor requests". I do prefer a church experience that leads with scripture. But again that is my personal preference. Just know before you go! I'm sure the small groups they offer are amazing. read more

This church is massive! (I couldn't resist) Really it's a large church with a huge congregation. We attend services here for three reasons. 1. Senior Pastor Bob Shirock. He's engaging and brings biblical teaching to a modern plateau. He teaches you how to apply the gospel to your life with humor and love. 2. Pastor of Worship Paul Jenkinson. Every Sunday he wakes up the masses with some rockin' tunes to praise the lord. 3. Adventureland. This is the sunday school program birth-preK. I am so proud of my son when talks about Jesus. "I was brave because I knew Jesus was with me." Best place to leave your children for an hour! Oak Pointe is a contemporary church, casual dress, coffee, bagels, and donuts in the lobby. Rock based Christian worship. If you are looking for somewhere to worship without feeling out of place give Oak Pointe a try. You will feel like you found a new home. read more

The people I encountered were unwelcoming. In fact, the greeter dropped his hand when I walked through the door. No one said hello, offered me a seat, coffee, or a bulletin. The worship service mimicked these sentiments. The entire congregation stood and robotically watched the praise team - no singing, no smiles. Call me crazy, but in my experience, we actually worship during worship and praise. Typical crowd, regulars up front, families in the middle, couples canoodling on the ends, and teens chit-chatting in the back. Most seemed cold and disengaged. Nonetheless, I gave the church 5 stars because the message was real, despite the off putting, tedious distractions, and my inclination to turn around and leave. Although I will find a church more befitting to my needs, I received God's word, which is what I came here for. Please note that headcount has nothing to do with a church's receptiveness to guests. My home church is 3x this size, and everyone is welcomed and treated with love. read more

Cold as ice. If you're looking for a place to go to feel that you are better than others without actually having to engage in any kind of community, this if for you. I have been here many times and have not been welcomed or acknowledged by anyone. No one talks to you. Basically you are just going to a concert and a "message" from a pastor you will likely never meet, let alone have a personal relationship with. Save your time and just listen to a podcast if that's what your after. read more

Yes, Oak Pointe Church is a tremendous outreach ministry. It responds to needs of ALL groups of people with NO exceptions. It is a very welcoming church. My only criticism is the fact that there are 12 pastors and all are male. If this really is a 21st century church, I think there would be female leadership also. It's obvious that Oak Pointe is a male dominated church. Women are just as capable as men to be pastor. read more
