You can purchase upgrades for better seating and access to discounted beer and drinks, but if you just want to attend you can do so for free. Parking is $25 per car, but you can also access for free via bicycle (they have a bike valet), walk if you live close by or by rideshare (they have a rideshare lot for easy drop off/pick up. I'm not sure why people say it is unsafe; there are more than enough police that pat down at the entrance (just like at almost every other concert venue and sporting event does) and a big police presence throughout the festival. It is a beautiful venue (the pavilion) and easy to get to from Chicago (Skyway and Indiana Toll Road). Website is FestivalOfTheLakes.com

This has been me & the bestie's yearly traditional event to attend each year. There are so many vendors to walk around and be amazed to see handmade paintings, clothing and other African pieces to purchase. Every year its a must that I grab my fav bottle of Mango Butter Oil for $10.00. Its one of the hot seller oils at this fest. Each vendor that sells this oil has it burning throughtout their tent. The smell is amazing. Also, each year there is a celebrity performer for each day that the fest is running. Tonight at 8PM Wyclef Jean will hit the stage to perform. The only issue is that every year the price to enter the fest seems to go up. This year it cost $20.00 to walk thru the gate. Thats a steep price for a fest to just walk away. There are food vendors lined up on the side from jerk chicken, vegan plates, funnel cakes, the list of food goes on and on. Its a great family fun event to get out and enjoy. There are so many vendors to purchase shea butter and soap, oils, head pieces, handmade earrings and other unique pieces you may like to buy. Its just a fun filled day of getting out and enjoying nature and people.

There were only about 30 people here which I actually liked a lot; it made parking a total breeze and I was able to sit in a place that I could see all the speakers. It was in the evening, so the weather was lovely with a cool summer breeze. Friends of the organizer brought bags of popcorn for everyone and there was lemonade. I loved hearing people's stories. They're funny, poignant, and a reminder of our shared humanity. I'll come back next year if I am able. Bring a chair (or a blanket, or find a spot on one of the many benches around Arcade Park.
