At around 9:00 we were told that we were being cut off (no more service). So I asked the management: Had we been rude? No. Had we upset other customers? No. Were any of our party of four staggering around and overly intoxicated? No. So why were we cut off? "We have a duty of care - company rules". Ok. Understood. But what duty of care is required for people who are not overly intoxicated? "It's just the rules. Thanks for your custom. See you soon". No you won't, Prince of Wales. After 40-50 years, we won't be back. This is a sad day.

One of the oldest pubs in Aberdeen, Fittie Bar gets five stars because it was the site of my single…read morebest evening spent in Scotland. The first thing you should do is check out Fittie itself. Fittie is a tiny village in Aberdeen whose basic layout remains unchanged from the 1800s. Walk down the tiny, charming lanes and marvel at the fact that an average of 9 people once inhabited each itsy-bitsy home there. Afterwards, stop in at Fittie Bar. If you've got any luck you'll meet as warm a welcome as my friend and I did when we were there. There are historical photos and sea charts on the wall and (if you're as lucky as we were) friendly local folks willing to regale you with the history of the area and treat you as if you were family. We each had a half-pint of John Smith's Ale and a glass of Laphroag, a combination we were told by a friendly local was called a half-and-half. Don't ever ask to have your whisky mixed in coke, though, that's strictly a no-no, at least according to another local. Can't guarantee you'll meet as many friendly people as we did, but the atmosphere is warm and hearty, the drinks are reasonably priced, and the history is soaked into the timbers.

Definitely overall disappointing visit at the oldest pub in Aberdeen. Few things to consider when…read moreeating here: - You can either order in person at the bar, or download the app and while it's quicker to order, it's iffy on whether or not the app works for you to even order from (the app didn't work for me, so I had to order with my sister-in-law's). - If you do use the app, there are more offerings on there than the paper menu. For instance, haggis is on the app menu, but not the paper menu. - If you want to expedite the visit, order ALL your dishes together and do NOT mark your starters to come early. If you do order the starter to come early, then it will, but they won't start cooking the entree until after the starter has been delivered. The dessert comes after the entree / starter regardless. - Even if you don't have a wait to seat, you will probably wait for your order. From start to finish and ordering a starter, main, and dessert, our visit took nearly 3 hours. I ended up canceling and being refunded the dessert because it took too long. As for the meal, my fish in the fish & chips was overcooked and oily, and that tasted dominated the entire dish. The haloumi was fine, but the crispy batter took away from the flavor of the cheese. The only good dish was the sticky toffee, which is good with the custard.

We ordered drinks and a side order of onion rings as a starter. The waitress seemed concerned as ordering a starter would delay our food. I guess having an appetizer is uncommon? I don't remember who recommended this bar, but whoever you are: THANK YOU. This was one of the…read morecoolest spots we visited in Aberdeen - it's got delicious beers, a great atmosphere, super-friendly staff and pretty decent grub too. We headed here after the football. We actually left the football a little early (I mean, who could predict that Aberdeen would score a goal in extra time?! Oops) so we got here and grabbed a beer and a seat. There wasn't a huge football crowd here later on so don't go thinking it's a football pub, it definitely isn't. It's got more of a hipster vibe - guys playing jenga in the pub on a Saturday afternoon - but in a charming way. There's a great list of beers on the wall and it's easy to see prices, which ones are available and aren't etc. We both went for the Bottle Cap IPA at £5.20 a pint which was just delicious. We had about an hour to kill before our dinner booking and as I am ever-hungry, ordered a portion of chicken strips. The guy behind the bar did some epic upselling and we added on cheesy garlic bread for just £1.50. He was super friendly and chatty, and recommended a bar to us for after dinner as well as a cocktail which we were pretty impressed by. The food wasn't anything out of this world, but it was tasty, generous portions and a great price. All up, this is somewhere I'd definitely head back to as soon as I go back to Aberdeen.
