My fiancé, a few friends and I were frequenting O'Donoghue's for a night cap. The barman was setting up our order, but happened to smash a glass in the process. I put the drinks he had been preparing to one side, assuming he would start the order afresh. However, after sweeping shards of glass from the bar, he proceeded to still use the previous drinks... I believed the barman must have been sure that these libations were safe, but minutes later my fiancé choked and coughed up a lump of glass, and then another of my companions showed me the bottom of his glass and there were two pieces of glass sitting there.
Now, accidents happen, but the way I was treated in the following minutes is untenable. I kicked up a fuss and was unceremoniously marched into the office. I was asked, "What exactly do you want?" I was slightly taken aback, this is not how I thought this process should proceed. So, I asked for some free drinks, at least. This was agreed and the manageress stropped out of the office and left me slightly agog!
I was not satisfied that the issue had been taken seriously enough. Seeing the proprietor of the premises at the bar, I approached her with my complaint, but she told me that she was off duty and with her family and not to bother her. I must reiterate, that my fiancé CHOKED on a lump of glass and glass was found in my friend's drink. While I was in the office being harassed, all the evidence had been swiped from the bar. I became slightly more irate and the bouncer was called over.
I was ejected from the premises! The bouncer put my arm behind my back and escorted me from the building because I was complaining about finding glass in my drink! read more
