Odell's used to be so, so, so good and then for a while it went downhill. Wait times were insane, the food was lower quality and you could tell it just wasn't what it used to be. Then, this year happened. I wish I knew what happened, but Odell's is BACK! They have the same yummy food they were known for and the service is great! They are so friendly and prompt. We always joking called it "Slow-dells" because of how they would take 45 minutes to bring the food AFTER you called it in prior to driving there. Now, we pulled up and placed the order and it was out piping hot within 10 minutes. Absolutely amazing! I don't know what they changed, but they've cracked the code and I wish them all the success in the world! Our food: Mom got a cheeseburger basket, which was perfect! Husband and Dad got Big Moe baskets, again perfect. I got a hotdog (for old time's sake) and it was everything I remembered as a kid. So delicious and nostalgic. I also had a chicken tender basket and it was good. It wasn't the same chicken tenders and bbq sauce that it used to be, but like most places, that is hard to keep the exact same over the years, especially with varying food service providers and whatnot. If you previously had stopped going here, give them another chance. You'll be pleasantly surprised! read more

The food is alright except the chicken tenders(fake and awful) .The one thing that has annoyed me is the ones who bring your food to the car. They don't bring all your change. Then ask you if you want your other dollar. A little more care to give back all change and a simple ya'll come back or how are you today would make me let them have that dollar. I have been visiting Mt. Airy for just over 40 years and tease my husband, who grew up here, that he's never taken me to O'Dell's!! Well that all changed today. A landmark in Mt. Airy, we enjoyed our simple food fare at the picnic tables. (There is no inside seating) The gentleman that brought out our food was very friendly. I enjoyed my experience very much. I was enjoying my delicious burger and milkshake. Which was very delicious btw, my wife loves the chocolate milkshakes here ! If she could marry that milkshake she would ! I was looking up while eating here and saw a disturbing sign. It said "MAYO PROHIBITED INSIDE TOAST, NC" "NO SCOOPING MAYO, NO SMEARING MAYO, NO THINKING ABOUT MAYO." Stopped in today for the first time based on reviews of other folks, and we always like to support the local "mom and pop" businesses. I will say that their prices are much lower than similar food items at other restaurants. Even though we were there after the typical lunch hour, they were quite busy. We tried the drive in service. It really has that old vintage feel of drive ins from the 60's. We ordered the Big Moe, which is similar to a Big Mac, 2 hot dogs, large fries and 2 large drinks. I think it was around $11. Service was quick and the "car hop" was a very nice, very pleasant, young man. The food was not the best I've had in a while, but we had no complaints. It was served hot and fresh. They also have a really nice menus selection. If you haven't tried O'Dell's, I think it's worth giving them a shot. read more

I've been looking for a yummy lunch time spot in Mt Airy, and I finally found it. Old school ordering- drive up and press the intercom. Nice looking friendly men deliver your food to your car. The two times I was there at lunch it took 10 minutes for the orders. Hot fresh food made to order is what you will get. They have some of the best seasoned wedges I have ever had. This is a total throw back, a limited edition, but no less a throw back. There is no seating outside of your car - you pull up to a parking space with a menu board and a speaker, you buzz the folks inside, place your order, and then you wait, and wait some more, this is not fast food, so you live with it - a sign tells you that "Good Food Takes Time". The food does come, and it proves to be worth it, always a good thing. We were going to order the same items, more or less, from all restaurants on this "run" to Mount Airy - a hot dog, a burger, and the local favorite, a ground beef sandwich, which may or may not have been Andy Griffith's favorite sandwich. All three sandwiches here were very good, especially the burger - the "Big Moe", a double burger with the restaurant's "special sauce", and it was nice, though the sauce is not explosive in any sense, yet it still works. A NOTE - the ground beef sandwich is better when loaded with condiments, on its own it is rather bland. I would order these again, but I would call it in, things are slow moving here, and the scenery is definitely limited. So know the restaurant, and work it accordingly. read more

I visit once a week mainly because I work in Mt airy. I have had the dog basket consisting of 2 hot dogs and fries as well as the Big Moe Basket with fries which is their version of the Big Mac but ten times better!! It's such a cute little drive in where you speak into a little intercom system and they bring the food out to you. Be warned though people don't nickname them slowdells for no reason. usually the best sandwich shop in town tonight the service was terrible one of the boys bringing orders to customers' cars had problems deciding which food went to which car. at one point he took the order in his hand back inside but never came back out with it. after waiting for over 30 minutes,I inquired about our order.
