Thus, the owner whose English was a bit better than our very rudimentary Portuguese, could help us with selecting what to eat. The first thing placed on our table was some bread with butter, a generous bowl of nicely marinated olives and an assortment of five cheeses of which we took two which proved to be very tasty. Then we were presented with a large plate of fish and seafood of which we selected three pieces of squid and one lenguada (sole/Seezunge) which we asked to be grilled and which were accompanied by some potatoes and a mixed salad. To go with our meal, we chose a very nice whole bottle of Vinho Verde. The food was tasty, the service quick and friendly and the total bill came to a modest EUR 29,25 (EUR 6,50 for the starters, EUR 14,75 for the two main courses together, EUR 8,00 for the wine). Not too bad a start for our week in Lisbon. We came back on our last day to buy some of the cheeses to take home to Germany - we were not charged more than what we would have paid in the shops.
