February 25, 2022…read more went to the college this afternoon for a cooking class sponsored by the college and our farmers market. Tonight, a local teacher here in Galveston that is from southern India taught us to make 3 courses of their cuisine. Class took place in the culinary school and we got to eat what we cooked and it was fabulous. The college is cute, well maintained and offers a lot of courses for a junior college

I completed the first semester with hopes that maybe next year things would be different. Since in my first semester I received my books late (towards the end) and the professor just runs around to the next place to sit down and teach nothing. I paid for my second semester but once I asked for a refund they denied me I spoke with the dean of the university and still lead me with no help I payed for a 2nd semester that was not given there a scam. Half of the things we were supposed to be learning was missing if you ask the professor for something needed to learn he would say someone stole it. I wonder why they could do such a thing if you leave student unattended with tools like that I would want to take them home as well and see maybe if someone else would like to show me how to use them. I'm very disappointed with this class and wish I would have just went somewhere else to actually feel better about my career and more passionate this place will turn you down completely. And let's not forget that I still haven't received my certificate for completing the first semester of the program I had to continuously call and inform them that I never received it I'm serious this place is a joke.

In my dreams, I wanted to attend Scripts or the University of Hawaii. But, after checking the in-state tuition rates it was a brainer. Especially since I was paying my own way! Tx A & M has always had a reputation for being reasonably priced. What I didn't know then that I know now is, what a fantastic institution of higher learning it is. I was just trying to go to college! Turns out I got a great education and a network of former students that is incredibly strong and loyal. The Galveston campus is still small by most standards. However, it has grown quite a bit since I was there. It was great to drive thru the campus and see the older buildings that were the originals that I attended and the significant new ones all around. I advise anyone considering an ocean centric education be it, engineering, science or merchant marine to strongly consider this college. Its a well kept secret but, slowly the word is getting out.

As she entered with tons of transferrable dual credit hours from high school, she will basically have the chance to earn her master's in 4 years. Pretty impressive. At first I'd agree that the campus isn't breathtaking, but as I was going through some of my daughter's photos I realized I was wrong on that count; you just had to know where to look. As a parent I actually love the small campus size. It has fostered a feeling of safety as unique as its location (my other two kids went to larger schools, including the main campus at College Station), and allowed her the opportunity to get to know a large part of the campus population and truly enjoy the community and camaraderie that comes from being a Sea Aggie. Volunteer opportunities within school organizations abound, as well. We've had few issues with staff and she feels as if overall she is going to be well-prepared to enter an interesting segment of the workforce. Though not known as a party school, they of course have plenty of awesome nightlife available on the main island, and a safe, secluded campus to come home to. And at the end of the day, as it is a campus extension of the main campus (not a "baby Aggie" branch, a part of main campus) she's just ordered her Aggie Ring & is looking forward to being a graduate of Texas A&M. Seriously, what's not to love?

Their motto every morning but be, "The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing." and it has been for years. The front desk/advising is completely unaware of the program directors/staff is doing. Poor comunication, website, and organization overall across the school and its programs. If getting started on a path wasn't hard enough, don't count on getting into the nursing program here either, even if you're already a student. The nursing program is understaffed, and the entry-rate is pitiful for how much funding went into this school and the tuition students pay. But, yay! There's a new advising building that isn't even labeled! It is a horrible shame what this school does to people. PLEASE don't waste your money here. Maybe you'll get lucky and get accepted into one of their programs, but definitely apply to multiple schools if you can, because they are in a prime location, with little to offer as far as a accessible successful career-building tools. If you are a good student or professor/teacher, please just come to Galveston College. They are so much more organized, and they actually care about their students.

I am a nurse and needed my BLS/CPR for HCP's updated and that is one of the services offered here. I have been through this same class (in different cities) 4 times over the last several years and each time I left thinking "If a situation arises where someone needs CPR, I won't do it".. I thought this because after the classes I still didn't feel like I was competent to perform CPR. That changed recently when I went in for a CPR skills session at Gulf Coast Emergency Response Training. First off, the owner, Tammy, scheduled me within a day of my contacting them and she performed my skills session one-on-one herself. She taught me things that I never was taught in all the previous CPR classes. The price was unbelievably low - $25. And what about the equipment! Brand new, CLEAN, mannequins that were electronic and had little lights on the shoulders. If you were performing the chest compressions correctly, you would get 3 green lights... if you were not, they were red. They also had AED's (defibrillators) that were just like the real thing. Previous classes I had taken didn't even have AED's, and the mannequins were dirty and scary looking. Bottom line is this: Because of the outstanding training I got from this place and Tammy in particular, I now feel competent to give CPR when the need arises, on adults, children, and even infants! And that is the whole goal of being CPR certified.

In honor of my 60th BD on the 23rd...we, "just sit right back and you'll hear a tale...a tale" of 3 gals on the bayou!!! (gilligan's island song reference) The three of us had the best time...Sunday FUNday! It was predicted to be a 40-80% chance of rain ...BUTT, not today Satan...the weather was perfect...hardly any clouds, 75 out and a decent wind...Capt Clement was patient, friendly and informative. I was the captain for about an hour...then I asked my friend to take over...she hesitantly did! We were on a 30 foot sailboat called, "the lift off!" It had plenty of space to sit. While on the water we met several other sailors/captains that Clement knew and we got to talk to from afloat. This outing cost $50 each and we were sailing in Offatt's bayou for 2 hours (maximum is 3 hours but, we all had to pee, so we lost an hour...old bitty's!!! LOL!) All in all, it was a FANTASTIC experience ...very zen. Get this...one friend aboard hadn't been on (any) kind of boat in 38 years (she had been involved in a near fatal boat crash at 14) and today, was the day she conquered that fear of water-crafts. We all learned a lot from Captain Jardin and about ourselves.
