I'm completing this review several years after I visited, and I believe it is now closed, which is…read morea shame. I very much enjoyed this place and the food was great. Towards the end of my stay in Munich it seemed like the staff was a little unhappy with management, and the service levels dropped a little, but hands down this was one of my favorite places in Munich.

This cozy Portuguese bar is in quiet neighborhood just 5min walk out of Munich Ost Barnhof (Munich…read moreEast station). I visited two occasions (both dinner time at around 7pm) but no need to wait as it's a little bit off the busy touristic area. Bar itself is pretty large size, it can take group people easily. In my case, I went alone for first night and took my family (four) on second time. Both worked very well without much loud crowd and served very well. We ordered baguette in Ali-oli (garlic olive dip), sea food risotto (which was not on the menu) and seafood stew (like bouilabaisse). Also I have tried two tapas: oil sardine and grilled seafood grill (Fischeintopp). All are good. Sardine was served in a small thin plate, it was sour with a lot of olive oil in it. Great starter with alcohol (BTW I had Sangria as aperitif, maybe not the best match to it though). Seafood tapas was nice but not necessarily a special taste. The highlight of the dinner was risotto. It was not on the menu, but I saw someone has posted it on Yelp so I asked waitress if they can cook it. She negotiated with chef and said "YES!". I had no special expectation about it, just imagined some fish meat was cooked with rice and cheese... but after all it turned out to very positive surprise due to it's taste and presentation. That special risotto has a big shrimp, thick but well cooked fresh squid leg, tomato and mushroom. Source was incredible tasty with a rich cheese flavor with some kind of fish based soup and great mixture of tomato and mushroom taste in it... IT WAS MY BEST RISOTTO EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!! Squid leg was also really soft and good, it has great taste and feeling which is not easy to find in a restaurant in Munich (where seafood is not a mainstream). However, since it's a special order, you cannot expect it to be available all the time. It might depend on business of the bar, availability of chef and enough seafood. Price was under 19 Euros. Seafood stew was also pretty nice, it comes in a larger size pot (big for one person) and got a lot of fish meat (salmon?), vegetables (potato, paprika, carrot, onion etc.) in a rich fish soup. We liked atmosphere, taste and service so much. The lady (forgot her name) was very helpful and friendly. This experience made us so fun and brought good memory... We will surely come back again in future!

So whilst we were wandering around Munich and checking out the many many Christmas Markets we found…read morethis little place. I'll be honest what pulled us in was the fact that we could get a gulhwien and go inside and drink it. Drinking gulhwien in and around the markets is cool but when temperature is beyond cool you sometimes need to warm the bits of you the gulhwien cannot reach. Inside its a has a Mediterranean/Italian coffee house feel. They had some quirky items on display like the mannequin stood on the counter in a fur coat? It is a small space in side one half looking more relaxed for the coffee/gulhwien drinkers and the other side looked more set up for those who wanted something to eat. The menu was filled with the usual stuff so if you want something hot and not too heavy they can cater for this. They also had a full selection of alcohol on display. They have an outdoor seating, as do most of the cafes we experienced, and draped across each seat was a blanket for those who would be brave enough to sit outside and watch the world go by. Needles to say that noooo one was sitting outside on this day as it was rather chilly. Depending on when you go there you might meet the random fella sitting drinking his cappuccino and swigging from his miniature bottle of Jagermeister at the same time and asking you random questions about where you are from and where to climb!! and then exchange looks with the staff as they wonder how best to get him out. If you are in the neighbourhood its worth dropping into this one.
