After a few disappointing inquiries, we found out that Emily's diner was open AND it offered veggie burgers. The 2.5 rating on Facebook was quite worrying though. We decided to give it a try anyway. The setting was extremely convincing; the country music, cheap lights, plastic booth seats, and memorabilia from a nostalgic trip back in time to the high point of route 66 made it seem quite American. On sale were also imported fruit loops, peanut butter cups and marshmallow spread, things you would expect from an American diner. The place screamed American capitalistic dream, with 6 sauce options on the table (barbeque, French and American mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup, hot sauce) and plastic laminated menus. On offer were many burgers, many extras (like onion rings, chips, jalapeno poppers, nachos), milkshakes, and a large selection of American puddings, all at high prices though (cheesecake, carrot cake, chocolate cake, ice cream etc, all at 6 euros). We both went for the veggie burger. The cheddar cheese on my partner's chips was clearly the American plastic type, though this was pretty authentic. I can imagine French people not liking this. According to the other reviews, the coleslaw which came on the plate was store bought, from Casino. For me, this is actually acceptable in an American fast food joint... The food is fast, simple and relatively unhealthy... It fills the fast food hole though. The service was also fast and friendly, the waiter came and had a little chat to us, which was nice but not too invasive. The price tag for the fast food was a little high, at 9.90 for a veggie burger with chips, but here in France I guess it's considered "ethnic" food, so it's more of a novelty, and thus I will be a little less critical concerning the price.

I asked to have the eggs scrambled, they said that you cannot have them any way except over easy and that I would have to buy a side of eggs that were scrambled. Here I am thinking WTH? scrambling them does not take extra work.... so I say fine, I say I want the eggs scrambled and you can charge me more. So I did not get the eggs scrambled, I get 3 sunny side up eggs and 1 scrambled egg. SERIOUSLY!! YOU CAN'T ASK FOR THE EGGS COOKED A DIFFERENT WAY?!? wow. Then I get the hot drink...chocolate. It is about 1/2 a cup. When I leave, I see other hot chocolates and they are full cups. Then also they bring sugar...I'm thinking does Buddy the elf run this place? Who adds sugar to hot chocolate? So for about 9€ I got 1 scrambled egg, 3 eggs that I didn't eat, 1 slice of toast with butter ( I was afraid to ask for jelly, they would have charged for that too), some sausage that were not bad and some bacon that under cooked ( bacon needs to be crispy people ). I would avoid this place and not recommend it.

Bagelstein is clean and starbucks like, with a short but interesting menu behind the counter and a sophisticated fast-food cafe feel. It feels like a chain, and after a little research I found out that it is an up and coming chain in France. Bagelstein, unsurprisingly, offers bagels. There are a few flavours to choose from, including poppy seed, multigrain, olive and cinnamon and raisin. They are pretty classic flavours, and the bread is very fresh. There are 5 flavours, 4 of which contain fish/meat so I won't be talking about them. I went for the isidore: Cream cheese, mozzarella, pesto, sundried tomatoes, marinated yellow peppers and salad. I got it served with a lipton iced tea, and paid something in the vicinity of 6 euros. A little pricy for a bagel lunch but I guess in France it's still a novelty. The cream cheese was very fresh, probably local. The mozzarella wasn't really what I was expecting it to be, though I can imagine it being good if melted. The bread was, as already mentioned, very fresh and really rather perfect. I'd like to come back to sample the sweet bagels, which were considerably cheaper (flavours included nutella, speculoos, white chocolate) and some of the puddings. The white chocolate macadamia cookie looked particularly enticing. The staff were friendly and relaxed, I didn't feel under any pressure to order or eat. I was in fact waiting for 10 minutes for my friend, taking advantage of the free wifi, and no one looked at me badly. The ambiance was pretty casual, with comfortable high chairs, making it a good place to grab a bite to eat between class or during lunch break. My only slight criticism would be that there was a lot of smoke, though I don't know whether this was just yesterday or the general situation.

I ordered the B.L.A.TCH, a fried chicken burger with avocado, bacon, relish, pickled onions, and arugula, which came with a large portion of house-made fries. The house-made brioche bun was soft and pillowy, the picked onions on the burger added a solid crunch, and the bacon was smoky. The chicken was good as well: the meat was moist, and the edges of the patty were crispy. Additionally, the fry on the chicken was light, which meant the burger wasn't very heavy. However, I thought the burger was missing a little something; the flavor was good, but nothing especially stood out to me. Personally, I feel that some sort of spicy or creamy sauce would enhance the overall taste of the sandwich. It could be that the relish on the sandwich is used to make this type of standout flavor, but I wasn't able to taste it. That being said, I enjoyed it, and it definitely filled me up. The fries were also great, lightly fried and lightly salted. I wish I had the option to try some other items on the menu, because they had some dishes that sounded delicious. To wrap it up, if you find yourself in Chamonix, definitely come and check this place out for some filling food and friendly, fast service!

Well, we got lucky and found this place. On the corner of this beautiful large square, we got a table. It was a bit late, and they had run out of lasagna and some other Italian dishes. So we ordered a pizza, salad and hamburger. It was really good. I wanted to get a pizza for myself but settled for a shared pizza. The burger was like when we were kids. Tasty, a bit greasy, and cooked perfectly. The pizza was almost like a NY pizza. Maybe I was hungry, who knows, but it was good. Salad is salad. Dressing was also good. This place hit the spot. Glad we found it and that we got to eat there. Great location. Good atmosphere. Great for people watching. And all around good food.

Actually, yeah, they were pretty cool to be honest, and it is definitely a place I would have no problems returning to.
