I will preface by saying that I opened a Yelp account based on this culinary experience, one which I continue to recollect.
My girlfriend and I visited Nudo for Valentine's Day. I picked the restaurant based on reviews I had read. Thrillist recommended Nudo as one of Berlin's best new restaurants of 2014, calling the food "simple," and "traditional," neither of which had any reality in our dining experience.
The first course, gespachio with tuna, was excellent, but from there, went off a cliff. My girlfriend substituted the 2nd course with the vegetarian menu, and was highly unimpressed with one egg yoke and cheese. I found my dish overpoweringly "fishy." This was only the second time at a restaurant where I literally could not stomach a dish. The first instance was at a sushi restaurant, in Nagoya, where an agent jokingly ordered a dish which he knew hardly any Westerners would enjoy. I felt as if a similar joke was being played upon us during this meal. The third course, two ravioli, neither of us cared for, because of the sauce. The fourth course, two shrimp, tasted repulsive to my girlfriend, who could only manage one bite, and completely unappetizing to me, as well. Fortunately, the desert could rid one of the previous dish's lingering taste. And even if the food had been palatable, the amount, unlike the review which stated "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx", would have been far insufficient.
This meal distinguished itself by being the worst in my life, further sullied by the fact that it was Valentine's Day, and the price inflated. Had reviews described the food as "extremely bold," and "challenging," to be generous, I would not have such a strong objection. But this was not the case, and as a result, the experience bordered upon being insulting. There were also other couples around us voicing the same complaints on this evening. Adding further insult to injury, they mailed a certificate for 20% of the bill. read more
